Good morning everybody. I own Alice Cooper nightmare Castle, but I really only played total nuclear annihilation as far as spooky games go. I was curious for people with more experience how they would rank the spooky games? Would be interested to hear everyone thoughts.

There was a poll earlier this year. Imo, AMH is the best Spooky game, but TnA is the most popular.

Wow they have managed to crank out a lot of games

Wow pretty amazing scoobys so far down the list. I didn’t realize people weren’t digging it.

The early coded sucked. It's getting MUCH better with the last couple updates, though. I'm loving it now.

That's just my list. According to the poll from the thread that was linked it would be:

    1. TNA

    3. Alice Cooper
    4. Scooby Doo
    5. Ultraman/Halloween
    6. AMH
    7. RZ

    I'd go

    1. TNA
    2. Scooby Doo
    3. R&M
    4. Alice Cooper
    5. Halloween/UM
    6. AMH
    7. Dominos (it's actually not that bad, just super basic)
    8. RZ

    Haven't played Jetsons

I only give R&M the edge over ACNC due to theme/audio-callouts.

Scooby stinks, yes even on the newest code. Zero kinetic satisfaction. Very boring shots and layout. I know some people swear they like it for some reason, but literally everyone who had played the one we have on location here who isn't a noob absolutely hates it, myself included. The game is beautiful and charming, but after that its a real snoozefest.

Yeah, but a lot of other Spooky games aren't great...

R&M = everything but the shots are great
ACNC = everything but the shots are great (and the theme is so-so to me, though I like the spooky castle comic vibe)
    HWN/UM = it's a hot mess IMO
AMH = it has some charm, but feels cheap
Dominos = it actually shoots well, but there's barely a game to play
RZ = worst game I've ever played. Once you get over there being some swearing and pixelated tits in the game, it's just a bunch of pops and slings randomly spilled onto a playfield. The rules are a mess.

That said I do think Scooby is not only great for Spooky, but in general a good borderline great game. I definitely see the potential after all the promising code updates, even if the layout is a bit boring. Also removing the left post from the in-lane greatly helped with my opinion of the game being too easy.

Although I am in the camp of liking the game (Scooby)--as Haymaker mentioned, I have consistently heard from newer players and non-pinball people this is a title they really seem to like, and more "seasoned" players tend to be a little harsher in their reviews. I do think the game has matured nicely as code updates have continued to drop, but some people just don't like the layout or the way it shoots, and that's something code can't fix.

In a bigger collection, this is getting the most play right now, and for me, its because it shoots so differently from everything else, but I would venture that this will be one of Spooky's more polarizing offerings--particularly given that one of their best (TNA) catered to a very different kind of player.

Scooby is coming along nicely. With open outlanes, it's a real ass kicker. Spooky knows how to make unique and interesting modes/rules. The villain modes are very good. So much more to them than just hitting a bunch of lit shots. Much more creative than the latest Stern offerings.

Honestly TNA is the only one I like. I haven't played enough R&M and never played AMH so maybe those ones are OK too.

lol what? Its one of the easiest games I've ever played. A real ass kicker? Wow. Ball times are through the roof on that game if you have the slightest bit of skill.

Drop the outlane posts and increase the sling sensitivity then Scooby becomes an ass kicker if you want to do anything other than keep it up top to bash Cutler all day.

    You stink!

    #23 1 year ago

I was on the Scooby is too easy train before the local operator made it more tournament friendly, which was removing the left post entirely. Do that and that outlane is a ball magnet. Add a tight tilt and it's a legit challenge to save balls going out that direction. I like the Ruh Roh feature because you will get a lot of left side drains between the unique drop geometry and the two right side slings.

I went from being off the game to being interested again. I just didn't have a lot of faith in the coding department, but I like what they've managed so far

(to offset my positivity, the Scooby also greatly struggled to launch the ball at times... seems to be a common issue)

Me too, i feel exactly the same about Scooby pinball.

I really wanted to like it. My first impression of the game was actually pretty decent too. That feeling didn't stick around too long after continued plays. I love Spooky as a company too. This game just ain't it though. I'd rather be playing TS4 (as long as I don't have to listen to it, at least Scooby sounds nice)

    #28 1 year ago

It's been several years since I played it—and I've not played all the Spooky games—but AMH was the one I most enjoyed at the time of playing. But I'd need to play all of them in the present to do a proper assessment.

    Wow- I would imagine.
Found it nearly impossible to drain on left side and played forever.

    #30 1 year ago

Yeah well you pull out all the outlane posts and most games get pretty hard.

    Quoted from Haymaker:

Got some bad news on that front

I think they also took off the center post up top off as well, but not positive

I love my Alice cooper so much . Happy to see it fairs pretty well in the lists. My only gripe about ACNC is it feels like it’s still missing stuff on the game. I keep waiting for new code.

    #33 1 year ago

Crazy, the default setting on my brother’s Scooby (post in the lower position) made the game brutally hard. Balls just zipped into the Ruh Roh lanes constantly. I put a plastic post with a slightly larger ring and it’s still tough but much fewer unstoppable drains. Still haven’t cracked 10mil in probably over 100 games on it. Average ball time is probably a couple minutes at best but Spooky really needs to improve their statistic reports in their yet-again-newest OS.

Fun topic and lots of variability amongst voters.

    1. R&M
    2. Scooby Doo
    3. TNA
    4. Ultraman/Halloween
    5. RZ
    6. Alice Cooper
    7. AMH
    8. Jetsons
    9. Dominos

Scooby really has been coming along.

Also Halloween/UM last recent update really did improve quite a bit, and new gameplay was very welcome, they are also still working on those games with new material still coming for them. We got new modes, new gameplay features, tweaks, new clips, new audio, new options, improvements to UI, improved art assets....

They show they have been listening in the threads for these games to the players/fans and taking ideas and suggestions to hear.

Can’t fathom how anyone could rank RZ above AMH or UM/HW.

What makes you say that? They added more to rob zombie years later.

Of course nothing is guaranteed... but RZ was way less of a game that needed more. ACNC is pretty dang complete, not to mention the fact that both the guy that did software on ACNC and the guy that did the rules, no longer work for the company. I can't see anyone picking up where they left off years ago, especially with no benefit. They have tons on their plate as it is.

    #41 1 year ago

Ultraman is the only Spooky game I know.
I love it and it is a keeper.

    #42 1 year ago

RZ has a lot of charm. It had rad art on the cabinet. RZ music. Modes based on RZ movies. Custom Capt Spaulding and Shery callouts. Tons of cussing. Infected mode whenever you time out a mode. Real skill shot that was hard but rewarded an extra ball. Fun upper playfield with Capt Spaulding shot. Inlane chop ball save feature. There were amazing mods available yet the game shoots clunky. I place RZ in the middle of Spooky’s games.

    #43 1 year ago

    1. R&M
    2. TNA
    3. Scooby Do
    4. Ultraman
    5. Halloween
    6. AMH
    7. Alice Cooper
    8. Rob Zombie
    9. Dominos
    10. Jetsons

    #44 1 year ago

I can't properly rank them all b/c I've not played them all but, of what I've owned and played this is my ranking:

    1. TNA
    2. R&M
    3. ACNC

On any given day I might swap these three around. ACNC with a touch wider shots and with the bugs worked out would have been a top10 classic game. R&M and ACNC are the only Spooky games I miss. R&M is so brutal... but so good when you're on point. TNA will never leave. Just a perfect game.

    4. Rob Zombie
    5. Halloween
    6. Ultraman

Honestly HWN/UM are better designed games from a layout and rules perspective, but RZ is just more fun to play. There, I said it. Nothing puts a smile on your face like Sid Haig.

    — like 2-3 games ever on them, so can't properly rank —
    7. Scooby Doo
    8. AMH

    — haven’t played these at all —
    9. Dominos
    10. Jetsons

    #45 1 year ago

I wonder which one will have the longest life of collectibility?

    #46 1 year ago

Scooby gets my vote. Haven't played the others enough to really have an opinion.

I get some people not liking Scooby. The layout is just okay, definitely not as fun as Foo for example. If someone prefers games that are all about speed speed speed, points points points, it won't be a good fit.

I give it huge props for the inventive modes and theme integration though. It fills a nice niche for me in my current collection, keeps the playstyles varied.

The Shaggy "build a sandwich" character mode is one of the coolest modes I have played in a while.

    #47 1 year ago

    1. Scooby (good code and great atmosphere)
    2. TNA (kickass fun but gets old fairly quickly)
    3. ACNC (so-so shooter but everything else is great)
    4. Halloween (quite unique for better and/or worse)
    5. R&M (probably would've helped if I liked the show more since you're watching clips half the time)
    6. AMH (not a bad game)
    7. RZ (well... um, it's got a cool adult/horror vibe)

Haven't played Jetsons or Dominos. Tried to talk myself into buying a local Jetsons for months and couldn't do it, just looks too simple.
