This is me. Heard all my life how great it was. Watched it during the pandemic. Couldn’t understand the hype.
I also think a lot of old comedies don’t hold up. I’m 40 and have been spoiled by The Simpsons, Judd Apatow, Seth MacFarlane, Conan, Ricky Gervais, all the insult comedy, Tim Robinson… etc. Going from them to Princess Bride was like going from a monster truck to a bicycle - just not as fun of a ride. I also watched Blazing Saddles last year and didn’t even chuckle until 45min into the movie.
If that’s what you grew up with, great. It was probably the best stuff out there. There’s just a lot more content now, and a lot of it is more outrageous instead of silly.
Also side note - Dan Ackroyd has never been funny, and Ghostbusters has no business being labeled a comedy.
