Quoted from Betelgeuse:

How about a pin based on the films of Neil Breen, and the 'Breeniverse'?

Cool theme. Love the Breen. They could recruit random people off the street to be in the pin, like Breen does with this movies!

However they want to move 750 units ... not 7. Haha!

Put your weight on it!!!

Love me some Rudy Ray Moore!

Disco Godfather was kinda screwed up though. Lol

Watched another from that genre recently, Black Shampoo. Production values were particularly good on that one.

Quoted from TigerLaw:

I think Spooky really nailed it at 750

Yep!

That was the magic number.

Sure, they could have sold some more, but better to create the hype and slam 750 in one day.

rd

#1237 2 years ago
Quoted from oneballjab:

It’s easy to say 750 is the magic number when you was one of the 750. I wonder how many of you would be singing that same tune if you’d missed out

Nobody who wanted R&M on the day missed out that I’m aware of.

Even old mate Odin who slept in for hours because he was majorly hungover snagged one in the end.

It’s not like they were all sold out before they hit the market.

If people didn’t buy one on the day, well, that’s really their own fault, sorry to say.

Quoted from punkin:

I do know lots of people still listen to the same music and watch the same shit they did 40 years ago,

Quoted from punkin:

t i wouldn't go to see those old cunts thrashing the same songs from 40 years ago if i got free tickets. Rather see an up and coming band.

Lol at all the thumbs down!

I agree with you. I’m all about discovering new stuff.

However, we are in the tiny minority.

Research has shown that most people stop listening to new music past 30. Seems to be a number of reasons. See link below. That’s why you see all the nostalgia tours and movie reboots. Nostalgia sells.

That’s why you’ll never see a modern band pin for example. Old guys ain’t buying one.

Quoted from Fytr:

Buy DP anyway, great game and you'll have at least 6 months to wait for the new Spooky game anyway

I was gonna say ... play it, you’ll be done with it before the new Spooky arrives.

Mine lasted 3 months before I got bored with it.

Liked the theme, liked the humour, liked the shots ... but it got old playing the same game over and over.

Plus, multiplayer games would go on forever.

YMMV but that’s my take.

Quoted from Cantabkiwi:

Meet the feebles (a true classic)
Bad taste
Or try another classic “black sheep” by Jonathan King

All cool cult movies.

But they need to sell 1000 of them, not 62.

Quoted from Mudflaps:

Same as Rick and Morty? Probably not.

I’d say the opposite.

The amount of queries I get for the Gottlieb Freddy pin is amazing, considering what a POS it is. It’s non pin people, who want a F13 pinball just for the theme.

Rick and Morty has very passionate fans - but in the mainstream, not so much.

Almost everyone has heard of Freddy Krueger.

Quoted from Fytr:

Kind of risky marketing move for Spooky to tease popular themes that people would want, and get excited for, and then take them away and offer... ? instead.
The ? better be really good (and somehow better than the themes they teased), or there are going to be bottles thrown.

I think that’s a tad unfair.

Spooky hasn’t teased anything much.

Except a photo of Charlie in front of a movie poster (a rebuttal to a podcast that said “Charlie doesn’t like Evil dead!!!”) and a tiny photo of the artwork.

The rest has been total speculation by people in this thread (and elsewhere)

So a bit unfair to say Spooky has been teasing any themes.

If people get disappointed - well, that’s on them.

rd

#2422 2 years ago
Quoted from rotordave:

If people get disappointed - well, that’s on them.

Honesty, I think that’s one of the *main* reasons pinball companies keep the themes quiet.

If Stern announced a few months ago “we are currently creating The Mandalorian” ... people would go nuts, their imaginations would run wild, it’d be cool if it had a dancing Yoda, it needs 23 light sabres, it’s gotta have a tribute to the cantina band, it’s gotta blah blah blah ...

Then when it comes out, everyone gets disappointed, because no way can it live up to what they imagined.

rd

Quoted from fatbeerdrinker:

But this happens anyway... ...from the teaser trailer till the game play video.

Yep.

Quoted from insight75:

I like this. No expectations = never being disappointed.

That’s my key to good life. Never get too hyped for anything - you’ll only get disappointed.

As a long time Spooky customer (and distributor), I want to echo what Pinball Star just posted.

- everyone ordered day one

- almost everyone ordered in the first hour (or tried to)

- working out your invoice numbers/time ordered as some sort of delivery ETA is a waste of your time, energy and Pinsides web server space

- don’t stress about when your game is coming

- forget you even ordered it

- it’ll show up when it shows up. This ain’t Amazon Prime.

- go play some pinball and have a beer

Follow those tips and you’ll have a great Spooky experience!

Quoted from TreyBo69:

I need to go try to find the Gottlieb machine. It looks like it has some neat toys on it.

Unfortunately, like most Gottlieb Sys3s, it’s sorta bad.

They had some good layout ideas - but has been stated by guys who worked there, they only had a crazy 3 months to get the games from paper to factory floor. Williams had 18mths.

The software programming really lets those pins down.

I think if someone was able to redo the software, some of those System 3s would be ok pins.

Quoted from mpdpvdpin:

Dangerfield sucks. He’s the lowest common denominator of the lowest form of comedy

Each to their own ... certainly everyone has their own favourite styles of comedy. I know I do.

I was listening to Marons podcast a few weeks ago, with maybe Rick Ingrahams, and they regarded Dangerfield as maybe the best standup of all time. I’ve heard that opinion from a lot of the lifer comedians.

Don’t forget styles have changed since Rodneys time, standup now is totally different than it was back in the 70s and 80s. Yet Rodneys stuff is still pretty timeless.

With Spookys blessing, we will be selling Ultraman CE#6, which is being made now.

Funds raised will go towards getting a new base for NZ Pinball to run from. It’s a project I’ve been working on for a while.

The Ultraman #6 CE machine will be ready to leave Benton in a few weeks.

Easy deal - just pay Spooky direct and we will sort it out. Either collect it yourself from Spooky, or we can sort out freight around the States at your cost.

If you’re interested in buying it, feel free to PM me offers.

Cheers!
Dave.

Quoted from benheck:

OK serious question: If I commissioned new awesome PF art and sold new PF for a stupidly high price like 2k would anyone bite?

The AMH playfield is fine IMO. Could it be better - sure. But how many people are going to do a swap out? Not many.

I talked to Charlie maybe a year ago about commissioning new backglass art for the game for the aftermarket.

The blue cabinet (what most have) is fine - a new backglass with updated artwork would be a nice update.

Ben, if you want to take this and run with it, I can put you in touch with Brad who did my Led Zeppelin art - I had already talked to him about doing it and he was keen.

It’d be much easier for you to do it from there, especially if you want to sell actual backglasses and ship from WI.

Drop me a message if you want to go for it.

I won't be able to hop on board if so, at least not as part of the NIB crew.

Just on this - as I often see it said …

Just because a game doesn’t have $50-100 worth of plastic ramps doesn’t lower the BOM much.

I can tell you for a fact that outfitting a whole game with addressable RGB lighting costs waaaay more than 2 plastic ramps.

Jimmy agrees to buy a new lawn mower from Sears and puts $20 down on layaway toward his $100 lawnmower. Jimmy loses his arms in a combine accident and has to sell his unpaid for lawnmower due to… well…
Robert buys Jimmy’s laid-away lawnmower from the store by paying the remaining $80. Hence, Robert now has a brand new $100 lawnmower for $80.

Sears ain’t going to sell the lawnmower for $80 to the public …

If Robert did a deal with Jimmy, sure, then the balance would be $80. Robert would directly pay off Jimmys lay-away under Jimmys name.

But if Jimmy bails on his deposit, Sears return the mower to stock and sell it for $100 to the next dude.
