Castlevania. Fun idea if the display graphics evolved from NES-style pixel art to current day 3D renders as you progress through your quest modes/defeat bosses.

Maybe not on-brand for ‘spooky’ but Bomberman (look at Saturn Bomberman era for visuals/music).

Lastly, I’d buy a Pokemon pin in a heartbeat…so much potential for evolving your character’s Pokémon along your journey of quests, capturing Pokémon (gotta catch em all), battles and gear galore! Gaahhhh!

We sure seem to like castles. It also better have a throwback "30 million" reference to Bram Stoker's Dracula.

#12253 1 year ago

My vote would be any of the following:

The Fifth Element
Army of Darkness
Pokemon (this license would be a nightmare)
Something Tiki/Mid-Century themed - Original License
80's New Wave Music Pin
Friends - TV Show
Wednesday - Netflix

#12254 1 year ago
Quoted from roscoepinball: Wednesday - Netflix

Was thinking about this the other day, great idea…might be good after the show developed more but the theme is on-point. Pretty much every The Addams Family owner would buy one and a new gen of ‘addams’ enthusiasts would connect to the series…plus her school is a friggin CASTLE!!!

Yaaasss!!!

A bit off topic, but not...

My 7 year old cousin was over selling some fundraiser stuff the other night. First time he'd been to our place. He asked if we had anything fun to do. I said it depends what do you like to do? And mentioned I had pinball and his eyes lit up and goes "I love pinball", Took him to the game room and he was ecstatic. Loved R&M (which I was surprised his mom let him watch it, that's another story)

Anyway, the funny part came later. We have a bunch of horror stuff on a shelf on the wall. He sees Ash and goes "He cut off his hand, and now Wednesday has it". I was surprised he'd seen any of the Evil Dead's, but making the connection between Ash's hand and Thing was an interesting leap in logic. I know Wednesday was probably his first introduction to Addams Family though. He had no idea that Thing had been around for much longer than Ash.

What about American Psycho, a little Huey Lewis and the news?

That license can’t be that hard to get

Where the hell is “Christine”….

Ok…new Idea…’Castle Mania’ (see what I did there?). Lol.

Wide body with 3 or 4 separate tiers/upper playfield castles maybe some connected by ramps (fun)…also a lower dungeon would be cool. Each castle has a vampire plus a few monsters to defeat until you rule them all! ‘King of the castle’ is the final wizard mode.

Ok, I need sleep .

Sounds great, but the lower PF needs to be full sized with the lens in the PF that fisheyes it so you have proper physics, like Krull. The bb ball mini playfields suck.

Agreed…not a fan of those mini ones like on Family Guy or Munsters. Full size with a vuk that spits the ball out a castle gate when you drain.

Was thinking more about music pins vs movie pins and wondering why not have both in one? (I'm sure the answer is a licensing fiasco)

Take a movie like Edward Scissorhands (who lives in a Castle thank you very much). The original score by Danny Elfman is great but maybe not suited for a multiball...what if you got someone like Trent Reznor to write a couple original tunes to fill out the music package? You get fans from both sides enjoying the pin.

My question for the thread is...what would be a fun mashup theme to you? Short Circuit + Def Leppard...Flight of the Navigator + Madonna?

Already done with Spinal Tap? and/or Heavy Metal.

Was more curious what original ideas people had for mashups...not saying it hasn't been done to one degree or another. What you got?

Dungeons and Dragons and Slayer

Twinkie Weiner Sandwiches + Twisted sister for the soundtrack...hehe. Goal of the pin is to work your way up the corporate ladder and achieve a merger between Oscar Mayer and Hostess and Cheez wiz .

#12272 1 year ago

Temple of set raid. Conan the barbarian. Still my pick. I like the original blade runner too, for a pin theme.

#12273 1 year ago

Tears in the rain multiball.

Killer Klowns will always be my dream Spooky theme, the light show, all those colors on the playfield, it would just be glorious. And you gotta have that theme by the Dickies playing

I would like to see the approach like Pinball Brothers Alien did.

You can choose Blade Runner first one or Blade Runner 2049 when you start your first ball and when you get through all of the first one you transition over to the other blade runner modes. Alien does it right..

I watched Killer Klowns for the first time last week. The clown prosthetics were a lot better than I expected! Pretty creative movie even though the pace was a bit slow.

Whatever this new horror movie version of whinnie the Pooh is… spooky should make that. Hahaha

Steamboat Willy Mickey falls into public Doman next year if Disney doesn't lobby enough of Congress. Expect a horror movie of that too!

There’s a game coming out this year for PC, PlayStation, and X Box, 35 years after the original films release. It looks very cool!
There’s also a sequel in development, in 3D no less, a pin would be the hat trick!

#12284 1 year ago

I think the Klowns sequel has been in the works for decades …

Hopefully it works out for them.

Killer Klowns is a dream theme for us! I believe the movie would really translate well to a pin. Also, the owners of the IP seem to really allow a large use of it all in different industries.

#12286 1 year ago

I’ve always thought there was massive potential in these two licenses. Loads of possibilities for Toys & Mechs, the playfields could be loaded, especially WFRR.
Code, modes, art, both have so much to work with. I’d love to see Spooky tackle either one.

They have tried multiple times to do a sequel, but no one gives them the money they need. SyFy tried to get them to make the movie for the same budget they made the original one.... which they did back in the 80s. The creators are all about practical effects, it's what they do for a living, and they have stated they need a decent budget to do a sequel which no one will give them, most horror is made dirty cheap nowadays and the ones pumping big money into horror aren't interested in a cult movie.

Luke's got Mega Man on the brain which is enough for me to say they should really look at picking up the license to 8 bit Mega Man. This isn't an actual rumor, I just think it'd be a killer theme for a pin.

And for anyone that's not seen it before, really well done re-theme of a Flash that someone (not me) did a couple years back:

This is amazing! What an excellent job. Mega Man would make an awesome theme for a modern pin!

I pretty much always have Mega Man, Zelda, Metroid, and Castlevania on the brain. Any one of those would very high on my dream list of games to design.

I’ll contribute audio engineering efforts to any of these for freeeeee…still have the NES I got for Christmas in 1989 and all of those are winning themes in my book!

A Zelda RPG style pin would be so cool! The game could save your character progress as you level up, collect experience/weapons/loot, defeat bosses, explore maps etc. Save the princess final wizard mode? Castlevania or Metroid would also be great

Just started a new game of Zelda today…on the NES I got for Christmas in 1989 . My kids actually have a blast playing too (but they mostly go for Zelda on the Switch).

You had me at killer klowns. Hands down the best maze at universal horror nights Hollywood.

Really, I started to listen when the topic of horror movies and budgets popped up.

It seems like the way into horror is through low budget. But I would pay money literally for some really good big budget horror.

Double the budget on killer klowns 2, my opinion.

Killer klowns 2; Double Down.

They go to Vegas.

#12299 1 year ago

You could get the casinos to pay to be in it.

#12300 1 year ago

Zelda would crush on location. Like "worth it to deal with the Disney of gaming" crush it. Also has a lot of Gen X draw.

Would also fit pinball better than other vids, the PF would represent the classic overheard view.
