Quoted from ripple:

I wonder if the next Spooky pin has green rubber. I ordered a replacement LED for my R&M and it had this green rubber instead of clear rubber.
[quoted image]

Interesting...

With Ben's New Boards (tm) being used in the new game, I'm seriously hoping that Spooky can move away from the individual LED boards on every friggin' insert and go to lightboards like most other manufacturers. I would consider R&M barely manufacturable with all those friggin LED wires running all over the place, blocking access to everything under the PF.

My game even shipped missing one led altogether, I can't say I blame the guys on the line, it's a nightmare (QA is fired, though!).

Quoted from benheck:

I'm not gonna read this whole thread just to see if it's been mentioned! And I wouldn't even if I did
It's not Goonies. God damn Goonies. Does that theme have any appeal outside Gen X? Yeah I know we're the ones buying pins but a zoomer at a bar is gonna be like "Goonies? Like, what the eff is that? Totes not on fleek"
I mean Pinside willed Munsters into existence by typing it one zillion times. (See also Iron Maiden) So I dunno. Wait for Deep poop to fold and maybe somebody else will grab it? Won't be Stern though.

Goonies has broad appeal. It is like “Princess Bride” almost every kid has seen by the time they are 13.

I think lots of people have a connection to Goonies from their childhood. Growing up I watched that film loads and I still watch it once a year now. It’s a No1 dream theme for me and I think a lot of people.
Different people make different connections to different things growing up. Lots of people love Back to the future, for me it’s just Meh! I never was really into it growing up and would gravitate towards Goonies, Bit Trouble In Little China, Beetlejuice, Monster Squad, Little Shop Of Horrors, Who Framed Roger Rabbit, Batman, Dick Tracy.
Goonies to me seems like a no brainier, it’s the perfect theme for pinball, pirates, booby traps, hilarious call outs, great 80’s soundtrack. I LIVE IN HOPE!

Is it a coincidence that these new boards are called Beetlejuice??

Goonies made an impact? On whom?

I can't imagine anyone (but Deeproot?) thinking that was a viable Pinball Theme. I don't know that it would outsell Food Truck.

On whom? You’re joking right?
How about half of the 80’s!
That movie is beloved by practically everyone I know and grew up with.
It’s a cult classic!

You might be wrong about that one. It lends itself to modes as well. I can't say it would be a must buy for me, but a ton of people in the pinball age would be interested.

I was in the age group you talk about when that movie was released. Shit, I sat through it in a theatre for a friend's 14th BDay party, maybe?

I don't know a single person who has ever mentioned it again, since.

Hell. Adventures in Babysitting gets mentioned and not the Goonies.

I just don't see it as a viable option at all.

I was born in 81 so I was only 4 when it came out, too young to watch it at the cinema but wore the VHS tape out growing up. My Mrs and friends most of them born in 80/81 same thing!
Maybe the sweet spot is born in the 80’s, if you were born in the 70’s and a teenager at the time of its release maybe you’d outgrown it already at that point.

#1010 3 years ago

Is there an objective way to measure the popularity of an older franchise? I would think Goonies would be way up there in terms of 80s nostalgia. I think it would rate way higher then Adventures in Babysitting and perhaps higher then Beetlejuice and Gremlins. All are behind Back to the Future and Ghostbusters.

#1011 3 years ago

Google- “90% of people like this movie” I was born in 82’...myself, my older friend’s and a majority of 90’s kids consider this a beloved classic adventure film. Because it IS. Just because you’re in the 10% of people who would rather watch the Fast and the furious doesn’t mean the film isn’t known and loved by quite literally everyone...but you. Next subject...

Obviously you are without clue. Also, not really thinking about appeal for a manufacturer / operator but appeal for yourself.

I think the Fast and Furious Franchise is shit. But, I recognize it has 1000x the appeal of a Goonies Pin.

Like I said, my experience indicates that nobody has much interest in one.

Was Ghostbusters considered a successful Pin? I sure as hell don't see anyone looking for one in a the arcade or for their collections. And I would not compare the popularity of the Ghostbusters franchise with The Goonies.

#1013 3 years ago

But you could say that about almost all of the themes suggested here. They aren't looking for millions of buyers (even if that was awesome to do). They are looking for ~1000.

You’re very black and white about this. I’d love a Goonies pin...and have great nostalgia for the movie. Just because you don’t have a similar experience doesn’t mean others feel differently. Goonies was pretty popular in this poll. Yes, a small amount of people voted and there is a large sample size, but it’s far from “nobody”. Compare it to some of the others, and it could be a pretty sought after title.

I don’t understand why so many people like the goonies. Then again Im a teen so that might be one reason.

I'm not sure if it would be higher than Beetlejuice or Gremlins, but it depends on what you are wanting out of a pinball machine. Goonies is on the 'cuter' side than either of those, and most of us are more into the horror/camp styles. Someone made a virtual Goonies pin a few years ago and it was pretty cool.

The one pin everyone is missing out on is jaws.

#1019 3 years ago
Quoted from dnapac:

I did preface that with 'In my experience' for a reason. I am not assuming that in the entire population of Pinball Fans there is no interest. We wouldn't be having the discussion if that was the case.
I just have not encountered a single pinhead who has mentioned their desire for a Goonies Machine.
Read a few here, and they are obviously huge fans of the Movie (can't really call it a franchise), but not once in all the years of people putting out their 'Dream Themes' have I had someone mention The Goonies to me .

Nope, boring.....

I honestly have zero interest in a jaws theme because I don't think anyone would actually do it right. If it isn't built around a big mechanized shark that eats the ball, etc, it's already a failure.

#1022 3 years ago

But the one in vpx is amazing. They should just re create that.

I'm more looking for the overall popularity of the franchises, not specific for pinball.

#1025 3 years ago

How about the near 10000 Goonies requests in this forum AND the next Stern thread? Are you blind? How are you typing?

Goonies Beetlejuice Jaws and Back to the future are all close in the top five on the pinside Dream theme poll btw.

Bill & Ted please, please, please. The music, call outs, theme would be awesome.

#1027 3 years ago

Beetlejuice

#1028 3 years ago

...and Jaws and Harry Potter come in at (statistically) the same numbers. The Matrix, even higher.

Maybe you should concentrate on Maths?
You would learn that Polling is essentially useless as it is based strictly on the population of the Poll not of the potential consumer base.

Honestly, does anyone actually believe a Harry Potter pin would sell less than a BTTF, Jaws, Goonies, Beetlejuice Pin?

No. You don't.
And again, not endorsing the Franchise by pointing that out...just noting that a manufaturer would be insane to pass a theme like that (HP) to produce any of the others.

#1029 3 years ago

My point is simply that Goonies is a desired theme for many people regardless of what you think. The poll and the many many mentions on numerous forums show proof of that. Noone needs to be a f’n mathematician to see that

54 votes is a long way from 10,000 . Not saying people won’t buy it but I also don’t see it as a massive hit - just another game . We all have our own opinions - it’s all good

10,000 Request and 9000+ from one guy wth a thing for topless, fat boys/

#1033 3 years ago

Reading comprehension not your thing huh? Read it again. There are 54 votes in the POLL and hundreds of mentions in various forum threads pertaining to upcoming games and dream themes. Also 10,000 was clearly an exaggeration.

This is a great shout!
Great theme for Spooky and a definite home run. Possibilities are endless as far as Toys, Callouts, clips, light show go.
I’d be in on one for sure.

#1037 3 years ago

Just leaked. First picture of Spooky's next pin.

Killer Kars from Benton.

Jump ramps, two loop de loops, shifters on cabinet sides like guns on Demolition Man to add another way to control the flippers.

Order yours today. You'll be glad you did.

On par with Star wars.

I would take bettlejuice over Star Wars any day of the week.

Wouldn't want you to offend someone with your ignorance.

Strokin' it to chubby children will take it out of a guy.

#1047 3 years ago

Let’s bury this one and talk pinball chaps.
What theme do you want the most?
And what toy/mech would you like to see in it?
Open to all, I’m interested to hear everyone’s ideas and possibly steal them if I ever win the Lotto and start up my own boutique company like Spooky Haha

#1048 3 years ago

Black Sabbath would be high on my list.

Always wished someone had made a Futurama when the timing was right for it...

Another direction I'd love to see happen would be for Sci-Fi Fantasy Themes that haven't already become big franchises. Sanderson, Jordon, Slavatore....so many others that could make great machines and be right in the wheelhouse for the smaller company production runs.
