Quoted from Damonator:

There’s been many games with boards on the bottom of the cabinet, but they always have covers over them so that nothing falls on a board and shorts stuff out. It’s not ideal - but it’s not uncommon to see. The most recent I can recall having bottom cabinet boards are WoZ, Hobbit and Alien.

Also, the CGC remakes have some damn big boards attached to those pfs.

True. They've been going strong since 2014 with the first run MMR's. Not worried about under pf tech as much as I used to be. Shit has come a long way since days of Atari pins.

#9953 2 years ago

Must be getting close to the first grainy Pinfest videos!

Quoted from TechnicalSteam:

What would be good is for a GIT managed repo - where people could be invited to participate.

Quoted from benheck:

Open source at Spooky died thanks to Homepin.
Please direct all your anger at Mike. Thanks!

Anyone else keep checking back for post #10,000?

#9956 2 years ago
Quoted from spooky_dj:

Honestly, I think a lot of people who are put off by the idea of repairing surface mount electronics would actually find it pretty easy with a little practice! It's really not terribly different from through hole.

The issue isn't skill for most people...it's the fact that in order for it to be as easy as through-hole, you need a different set of tools....tools that until very recently have not been particularly cheap. Yes, you absolutely CAN do SMT soldering with varying chisel tips, patience, and some tweezers......how do you heat both sides of a SMT component to desolder them without a hot air/rework station? This is a rhetorical question, I'm going to look it up, but yeah. I don't like kludgy work or halfass solutions....I'd rather just have the proper tools.

Quoted from Sonic:

Not really....the bowl and rollover MRS' are not comparable - the old bowl switches used very different magnets than the rollovers - the rollovers magnets are about 1/3rd the strength....any hangup over the rollover should not be the rollover itself - it's not strong enough on a playfield with a 6deg pitch to hold the ball with any momentum behind it...further we have rollovers in early 80's pins with slower moving balls and less pitch with zero hangups...
Matt

You're the expert! Thanks for the clarification.

Sweet.

Personally I love the fact that they took UM to Pinfest over Halloween.

Why didn’t they take both?

Charlie took Halloween to a horror convention in Chicago.

My guess, licensing, UM is all approved and ready to go, HWN, not so sure on that.

Surely they have more than 1 working machine of each at this point. Regardless, I imagine gameplay will be similar between them.

I agree with the shot layout it should be similar, just different modes and light features with the different art packages. Excited for both!

They got some Ultraman footage posted in the Ultraman thread.

I can't wait until until someone makes a decal for the speaker/LCD panel.. That black kill me. I have a great decal on my ACNC. Made a huge difference on the look.

#9984 2 years ago

Charlie is being so mean. Taking a pin that no one can order/buy.

Halloween fan: This is awesome, how do I get one?

Charlie: Well, you can't. We sold out.

Yea - I think it will be a 100% sold out after this weekend. Hopefully a few non pinball horror fans can snag the few remaining.

It's at pinfest if you want to try it courtesy of spooky and pinball star. 1 ball per player so the line moves fast.

They are based on the 1969 time period, but the van is not from 1969. Vans didn’t look like that then. Cool artwork though.

I got to play Ultraman today and watched a lot of plays as well. Felt fun to shoot, tough to get a feel when only playing one ball. Lost my ball because not knowing where balls eject from at the time.

My main take-away is that the LED light strips on all the upper playfield edges are not a polished look. If they have to be there, a diffuser cover is needed. Staring at bare LED strips is not enjoyable and not a "high-end- finished appearance. Very home brew looking LED strips that drag down an otherwise fantastic art package.

I’m sure someone will come out with a diffuser mod.
