Thread title changed because now we have Spooky doing double pin drops!

#7102 2 years ago
Quoted from awassig:

I actually own ACNC and RZ. Have played RM all fantastic games that's why I'm disappointed so far with this game. Need to see some gameplay but for now I've gone from a fang club member ready to drop a deposit on a CE to a non buyer. I know you have to appeal to as many as possible and can't have violent bloody artwork out on a location and expect it to do well with out a ton of complaints but hey spooky sells their stuff as boutique pinball, so that's what I expect. And the art on the machine looks like a collage of random movie scenes with a Thanksgiving vibe to me. [quoted image]

i promise both games will be much better than your rob zombie!

#7103 2 years ago
Quoted from mpdpvdpin:

It was a team effort. The designer is listed as ‘Koris Barloff’ or something but Charlie, Bug and a few others had their hands in it.

I’m a bit worried about depth of rules / code myself. As it stands now I’m not sure I’m into it. Seems like you could get to the final wiz mode pretty quick if your a good player. From what I gather the rules were written by Bug w/ Bowen as consultant and epthegeek coding? Will personally wait to see if he goes wild with updates like he did on RAM but for some reason I don’t see that happening for this game mostly based on the fact that there’s not really a whole lot going on in the film itself.

Eric is just consulting, Fawzma is the coder.

Bowen & Eric on R&M are kind of the dream team really.

Be interesting to see how the R&M code is rated when 100% done, as hearing it's pretty darn good already!

Quoted from cooked71:

Damn you Spooky! I honestly can not decide between the 2 games.
Can I just put a vote up for I don’t like this model of selling just because I can’t justify buying both today.

Lucky you Mark . I can't get into either theme, so it's back to waiting for Fathom for me and seeing what else comes out.

Quoted from Our_Man_in_Oz:

Yeh, leaning Ultraman though.

#7106 2 years ago

As usual these get announced overnight here , and by the time you get home from work there's 800 + posts .
I saw both of the videos and I think they look fun and an interesting layout .
I do like how Michael Myers jumps out from behind the bushes .
I think it will take a while to sell all the Halloween pins but I think Ultraman will sell out on day 1 .
One thing I think spooky could improve on , is the look of their speaker panel .

#7107 2 years ago

I thought everyone had heard of Ultraman. How many have heard of these two? Watched them as a kid while living in Hawaii early seventies. First one is Kikaida, half man half machine. The second is Rainbow Man who could transform into seven different superhero’s depending on what the situation warranted.
Now these I can believe no one ever heard of. Lol

They both look stunning in their own ways, with the different color schemes. I might prefer Ultraman’s vibrant colors, but Halloween is right there.

I need to now more before I pull the trigger on Ultraman. I’ve grown very weary of “battle the monster/villain” over and over games. The superhero genre is very tired for me. So if the Ultraman modes are like Deadpool’s or XMen’ or Spider-Man’s or Iron Man’s I’m probably out. I just don’t want “now fight this Godzilla poseur”, “now fight that Godzilla wanna be” rinse repeat.

While Halloween’s objectives probably can’t be all that original, at least it’s a fresh take. I thought I’d be out because of the prominent “Michael in a leatherface mask”, but the chance for a different type of objective based ruleset appeals to me.

#7109 2 years ago

My ceilings are too low for a topper, but i can’t see buying anything other than a CE for this one. Just for resale value alone. That Halloween topper is insane. I’ll need to determine a way to rig it on the wall or something, to enjoy it.

Also, to get your game any sooner you have to buy a CE, so there will probably be a high majority of CEs IMO.

#7110 2 years ago

Since we know the pin has seven balls, I'm wondering if it will stage a ball at each inlane lift mech? R&M does this but with a more traditional ball trough. STTNG did it and could even auto-stage the balls before a game started.

I’m thinking it does - looked that way in the gameplay video. I think it was a shot to the scoop?? Came out really quickly like in Rnm - certainly quicker than it could travel down the subway.

Is this a new game play video that dropped? In the release video (from yesterday) I didn't see any shot into the scoop followed by the lift to the inlane? But I hope you're right!

so the cat is out of the bag ....

what is the next Spooky pin(s)

No not new. Was the Ultraman one from today - about 16s in.

You could get some custom shorter legs?

#7116 2 years ago

Any chance we will see any more video today?

#7117 2 years ago

Ultraman and Giant Robot were awesome shows. They were staples of my childhood growing up.

#7118 2 years ago
Quoted from Hayfarmer:

You would think if they want the sales for tomorrow morning to be big. I am sure there are people like me on the fence not pulling the trigger until they see game play.

#7119 2 years ago

I just want to see what the BSE looks like. I'm not worried about game play, looks like fun pinball

#7120 2 years ago
Quoted from hAbO:

Yeah. I think the numbers are off on this release. I’d say Ultraman has demand for 750 and Halloween maybe 1000 max. We will know for sure tomorrow what the demand is.

The main issue is it all comes down to integration and code, which we are not seeing any gameplay.

I want to play both games badly.

#7121 2 years ago
Quoted from hank527:

Ultraman has way more assets and better art. It will sell out fast.

I think Halloween may take a bit.

Quoted from screaminr:

You guys massively underestimate the importance of theme. Halloween is more popular by a large margin. It will sell out instantly, or as fast as the website allows.

#7122 2 years ago
Quoted from Deezer5150:

This is addressed to the Spooky Team-
In the video with Charlie and Bug you mentioned that all orders from Spooky have to go through the website. One can no longer phone it in. What contingencies are in place if the website crashes due to traffic?

Deezer5150 Our websites have been upgraded! We've upgraded the hosting service, and brought in a website optimization specialist to smooth things out. If the main site does go down, you can still get to the shop directly at shop.spookypinball.com. If the shop site goes down, I'm afraid we'll just have to wait for the site to come back up.

I hope you're right, but I don't see it happening. R&M had a huge fan base and sold out all 750 in about four hours. But I don't see Halloween's fan base as large as is for R&M, plus there's 1250 pins, plus there's an additional 500 for Ultraman which will pull sales from Halloween. Now Ultraman selling out all 500 quickly seems much more likely. Regardless, I'm in for Halloween!

How bout a quick vid on some play ? Even 5 minutes or so would push me over to buying.

#7125 2 years ago

I doubt it will effect day 1 pin sales, but I wonder what effect hardcore Ultraman collectors in Japan will have on second hand Ultraman prices?

I agree with all of your reasoning, but I also think there are those that feel like they missed out on Rick & Morty. I'm wondering if that fear alone will makeup for the extra supply.

I think Ultraman will sell out day 1, but Haloween may have spots open for months.

#7128 2 years ago

Game play footage please Spooky!

#7129 2 years ago

+1 on some more video.

I'm torn on themes. Both are appealing but I'm thinking the music and ambience will be better on Halloween. A little bit more gameplay footage, or even audio from different modes, would help clear that up some!

#7130 2 years ago

just get Bowen in front of the games for 10 minutes so we can watch

#7131 2 years ago

I vote that if you are on the fence get a HWN. Not enough UM for those that are "on the fence" save them for us that are going to be refreshing constantly 45 minutes before sales start.

#7132 2 years ago

What he means is for the people who claim 'bolted to the floor' then MAYBE play them for 30 days before trying to sell them at a premium. So many people already making the usual statements of 'rare', which we know exactly what that means.

#7133 2 years ago

Also, could we get a matrix grid showing the different trim/models?

I can't play like Bowen, but I'd be happy to make the hour drive to Spooky this afternoon with a tripod and camera and take some footage

#7136 2 years ago

And then put him in front of it for another 800 hours to make the game rules as deep as Rick and Morty hahaha.

I bet both sell out tomorrow.

#7138 2 years ago
Quoted from mpdpvdpin:I can appreciate that. I bet if you guys dropped a comprehensive breakdown of the current rule at this code version it may help bolster the confidence of the rule nerds out here, myself included haha. A lot of us will spend the money if we know there is a deep challenge and that we can’t get to the wizard mode in a 15 min game in the first week of ownership. Not saying that’s what this game IS but we just wanna know what this puppy is packing as far as rules / objectives / code etc. We would try patience but umm we know the game will sell out regardless of how we feel about the depth haha

While all of this would be nice, they dont need to. Both games are going to sellout in no time.

I think the pinball market is way hotter now than it was in December 2019 when Rick and Morty hit the market. There is far more demand than supply for NIB games. I think Ultraman will be the first to sell out, but I expect both games to sell quickly!

#7140 2 years ago

Those that think Halloween will be around for months...even days, after tomorrow, are going to be disappointed. Neither of the 2 games will be around past this week, I feel pretty certain.

Quoted from SantaEatsCheese:

I don’t think Japan gives two shits about pinball. They’ve seized on many American fads and institutions over the years. It’s not like they don’t understand American culture. Maybe Ultraman will change that. For a minute.

Quoted from mpdpvdpin:

I am not hot for the rule set on this, I’m afraid to say. No Bowen on rules hurts bigtime.

Quoted from mpdpvdpin:

I’m out on both, ya’ll have fun though. Not to be rude but I’m not sure how much I trust Bug as rule-meister. From the rules I’ve read I’m anticipating dissatisfaction from serious pinball players.

Quoted from mpdpvdpin:

But what happens after that...and after THAT?

Quoted from mpdpvdpin:

A lot of us will spend the money if we know there is a deep challenge and that we can’t get to the wizard mode in a 15 min game in the first week of ownership.

I believe it was Bug that came in and said that with these rules you're going to know exactly what you need to do with the challenge of doing it to perfection. You might be able to reach the mini-wizard mode in the first week of owning the game, but what's going to keep you hitting the start button is doing it perfectly. That sound like some of my favorite games from the Bally / Williams era, so I'm excited.

#7143 2 years ago

9k plus shipping is a big decision that I would rather make after seeing and hearing some gameplay footage.

Can you help us out Spooky Luke?

Quoted from Capn12:

I won't be surprised if neither is available from Spooky past the first two hours... But they'll be around at extreme markup prices for months and years to come!

#7145 2 years ago

Agreed, they absolutely do not have to do this. But Spooky does a lot of things that set them apart from other manufacturers and this could be yet another move to solidify confidence in the brand and the new titles.

Quoted from Roostking:

Someone has to say it, it’s kind of important. Think about how mad people were about Munsters. That really hurt confidence in Stern. A lot of people swore off buying NIB games to wait until code developed. Some of those games had to then be purchased on the secondary market for higher price tags. Then the manufacturer lost those dollars. Same thing with RaM. People waited cause they weren’t sure about rules/code...once it developed and it was clear the game had heavily developed code those people had to buy spots secondarily for crazy markups. Thousands and thousands of dollars that Spooky missed out on. Just sayin’ I’m not spouting off about this to be rude. I just think it’s a valid concern as most of these games will end up in a home use environment and a lot of home players really want games they can sink their teeth into and games that aren’t easily/ quickly completed. That’s all. On the other hand there are a lot of people that love the simpler BW games but let’s be honest... Those were designed for specifically for location play and at least for me they get very old when you can rip through to the wizard mode and roll it on a hot 20 min game. We can just do so much more with modern games. Again, these are just my opinions. No need to hate me for it.

Quoted from lpeters82:

You should have said something.

Yeah like a week or so ago.

#7150 2 years ago

Based on YouTube current views I think the total number of games per title is smart...

10,206 views on YouTube for Ultraman
25,221 views on YouTube Halloween

roughly 2.5x more views for Halloween...

500 Ultraman pins... 1250 Halloween pins... going by this logic they hit the numbers pretty perfectly.
