Working on my Spooksville now. I am having a weird bonus advance issue. It seems to advance to a random spot after a switch is hit to advance it. Starts at 600...might go to 700...might go to 3000...might spin the light around 3 times before landing on 5000...weirdness. I have tried swapping the bonus advance relay with other relays...no change. Any ideas? Could anyone PM me several pics of the schematics (if you have them)? Thanks!

Update...bonus reset stops at random places too. Bonus scoring works correctly. Any ideas? These relays are not adjustable FYI. They are in a cube.

Motor on runs once at start up and if ball drops into kick out hole or bonus is scored. Motor doesn't run in regards to advancing or reseting bonus (only scoring bonus).

Quoted from orykzinyo:

On your score panel you should have one blank wheel next to the credits wheel and the ball in play wheel. This wheel is what stores the bonus count. Make sure it is operating properly and the edge connector is still snug.

Excellent thanks I will check it out!

So I totally overlooked the fact that those reels hid mini steppers (kinda) in them! I dismantled that whole left side and cleaned all the old black grease off and added a very light layer of Super Lube. After this I was getting more consistency with the bonus but it wasn't until I loosened the coil bracket on the assembly and pulled it away from the reels some that I finally got the bonus to work correctly! It scores, advances, and resets correctly now!

I discovered another problem afterwards. When the ball would drain I sometimes would lose 2 balls instead of 1. The coil armature had a groove dug in it that apparently was causing it to stick for a second occasionally allowing more than 1 ball to be subtracted. I swapped the armature with the one for the dummy reel and VIOLA! ... that problem is gone!

I have one more possible issue. If I score 3000 points, extra ball light comes on, I drain and I don't lose a ball...this is correct. If however I score 3000 points, extra ball light comes on, and I advance the bonus again (5000 points and special is lit)...when I drain I do NOT get my extra ball. I have tried this at least a dozen times with the same results. I tried moving the plug in the bottom to Extra Ball and to Credit...it doesn't change anything. Any ideas? Maybe this is correct? (I doubt it).

Quoted from orykzinyo:

I’m pretty sure a side drain collects the bonus and extra ball while a center drain collects nothing. Maybe that is the issue?

That's weird. So any drain (center or side) awards extra ball unless special is lit then you have to drain down the side to collect extra ball? I will check that out.

It turned out to be a dirty switch that didn't have enough tension between the blades and was making poor electrical contact. It is the add a ball release switch (I think that's its name)...the last switch in the ball trough. Fixed! Just to be clear...once that extra ball light is lit you get that extra ball regardless of how you drain or playfield scoring.

Thanks for your help!

See this yellow wire? It is a jumper between 2 other wires on this pcb. They are both ground wires I think but they are grounding different things (I think). Any idea why this would be here?

Any idea what these wires do? They are adjustable. They somehow relate to extra ball and replay I think but not sure how.

Quoted from pinwiztom:

Red,Green, Blue all relate to potential high score replay values (one of three) in order to earn a free game..
One end probably relates to 10,000s the other end of wire relates to the 1,000s
and depending on where the terminal end is placed in the score reel connection slot
one can adjust the high score needed to earn a free game.
Be it 45,000 or 76,000 or 98,000.
Obviously it is impossible to have any two or more high scores have same 1,000s,
unless one can piggyback the terminals.

Seems obvious now...lol. Thanks!

Any ideas on the yellow jumper wire on the bonus PCB?

#20 3 years ago
Quoted from orykzinyo:

The yellow jumper appears to be bridging a blue-white wire to a pink wire. Does the pink wire have a tracer, black perhaps?
It looks like this is to make your machine “free play”. Do you need to add credits in order to play?

It is freeplay! Thanks again for all of your help. I really appreciate it!
