I haven't seen it yet, but the reviews online (not just Pinside) are so vile that I'm not sure I want to burn the 2.5 hours. This is coming from someone who hated TFA and actually enjoyed the prequels...I know...I know. I've just been skimming this thread to avoid spoilers. Just going through the first few pages of user reviews on IMDB its hard to find anything above a 4.

Just watched TLJ last night. I fell asleep during the casino scene and my wife had to wake me up (I never did that during a SW film before). So I guess that tells of my opinion of this episode. I'd say it was better then TFA, but not by much. Still a bunch of stealing from the original series, like the elevator ride where Rey was telling Kylo that there is still good in him, the throne room scene, the AT-AT scene attacking the rebel base.
Then there are the scenes that just made very little sense, like Finn taking off in a shuttle while the FO are hammering down on the rebel ships. Why was he not detected and followed? And what's the purpose of his character anyway? I mean you could have removed him from the movie completely and it would have not changed any outcome. Every objective he attempted basically failed in the end. The back stories on some of the key characters are so thin that it makes them boring. Who the heck in Snoke and why is he so powerful? Of course he dies a cheap death anyway, so I guess it really doesn't matter. And then Rey. Well her parents abandoned her.....OK that's it??
So now with Snoke dead we have Kylo to lead the FO in the next film? I wouldn't call that much a leader in any sense. Oh yah then there is the piss poor acting by the FO commander with is overly cliche and almost slapstick delivery of his lines. At one point I actually thought the opening scene was a complete joke. The FO seems more like a bunch of bumbling buffoons than a highly advanced galactic military force that could be taken seriously. How many times can they lose death stars, starkiller base, dreadnought, massive Snoke ship and still have resources and skilled personnel to man them? Anyway, it was still better then the last movie, but a far cry from the original trilogy. I even like the prequels better. Just my opinion of course.

Has anyone else wondered how gravity bombs could be effective in space? The rebels use bombers that drop gravity bombs on the dreadnought. How does that enen work in zero gravity? How does the crew member that triggers the drop not get sucked into space?

    Quoted from vicjw66:

u answered your own question. Assuming that the bombs were released at the same time as the bomb bay doors opened, the crew member would be sucked out into the vacuum of space along with

Good point, but would they be at all accurate? I mean what's to say the dont just scatter about in various directions once they leave the bomb bay? They may even float around and hit their own ship. It just doesn't seem like a sound design for a space bomber. Also, they show the doors open well in advance of them getting dropped, so all the air would have already been sucked out.

    Quoted from Wolfmarsh:

is also seems like a good way to introduce Interdictor vessels in the next film.

I forgot about those. Yes. So much good material to pull from the books and games. Disney please stop stealing again and again from the first films and instead harvest from the many fields of rich content that exists and hasn't already been translated to film.

    Quoted from gdonovan:

There is a rich variety of material to be mined in the various books written over the last few decades.. And Disney ignored it all. It would have not been hard to find some good stuff if they had expended some effort.

This coupled with many of the fan theories that came out, were far far better and richer than anything Disney came up with. In fact, they really didn't even try. They seemed to be much more concerned about throwing as much PC bullshit as they could squeeze in over any sort of charter development or anything unique (or interesting) from a story telling standpoint. At this point, the only way to save the franchise is to totally disavow TFA and the TLJ, forbid from selling or playing either one, burn all copies, and start over. This time forget being political and focus on the characters and the story. If a character has no real purpose in furthering the story (Finn), they leave them out of the script. Also, please stop with the slapstick humor, it does not work like it does in the Marvel universe. If they are going to steal from the originals, do so in extreme moderation.

    Quoted from fosaisu:

If you're hoping Disney is going to disavow the top domestic box office movie of all time (#11 adjusted for inflation), prepare for bitter disappointment. You hated TFA, but why should they give a f#$k? Presumably Disney was a little disappointed with TLJ's box office, and very unhappy with Solo's take, but TFA was an epic cash cow and a critical success to boot, and no one's going to touch it.

Just my opinion brother, I know big ole Disney doesn't care one cent about it, but I still have the right to express it. TFA benefited from the continued story opera effect of a very successful and highly anticipated film franchise. It was going to gross well no matter what came out. My feeling is that we will not see the same for the next film just like with Solo. Disney can go F-itself, as I'm done paying to see their crap and I know I 'm not alone on this, so NO not holding out for a reboot and YES I will find other stories to follow, thank you so very much for the excellent advice! --Mic dropped and kicked--

    #2082 5 years ago
    Quoted from fosaisu:

Here's another pearl of wisdom: if you want to come off as "over it," don't kick the mic after you drop it. Sort of like punching the wall on the way out the door, satisfying in the short term but it kills your cool.

OK, I'll be sure to remember that for sure, since I need all the lessons in coolness that I can get. However, one nugget for you, if you're going to "quote" someone, make sure they actually said what you're quoting. It sorta kills your wittiness.

    Quoted from TigerLaw:

They are going to have to double down and try and save the franchise in some way by correcting a lot of RJ’s BS.

I've got it! Just have the opening scene show Luke waking up from the terrible nightmare that was TLJ and move on from there, as if it never happened.

    #2210 5 years ago
    Quoted from HoakyPoaky:

They have all been guilty of blatantly attacking fans, doubling down on their SJW beliefs, and incorrectly assume that that any fan who criticize their work are just a bunch of "sexist & hateful fanboys" and are not "true fans". It's offensive to me. They don't understand fan frustrations, and they lash out in return. It's shocking that Disney execs allow this type of social media activity to continue.

That's why we have to protest with our wallets. Don't grace them with another cent until they finally understand that the bulk of the fan base is pissed and that SW is now going to be a bottomless pit that consumes cash until they make the decision to put that dumpster fire out.

    Quoted from kirkgun:

Yep, it's really bad. I fell asleep 2/3 of the way through it. I have no plans to watch the rest.

Its good to hear I'm not the only one that fell asleep watching this smoldering garbage. Let me guess, at about 2/3 the way through must have been during that pointless casino scene? That's when I finally lost consciousness.
