    //FLAME SUIT ON

Wow, what a bad movie. I am clearly a big fan of star wars and went to the 1 am showing when I work at 8 am.

Spoiler Alert, turn back now if you havent seen it or do not want any spoilers

From start to finish it was just bad.

I'll try to break it down chronologically

    Exhibit A:
So at the beginning the First Order tracks down the Rebels, yadda yadda yadda, then they TRACK THEM THROUGH LIGHT SPEED / HYPERSPACE
and everyone is like, wow that is impossible! but they never deavle into the details of just how that was pulled off. stupid.

    Exhibit B:
The Rey with Luke stuff was pretty blah. Just was. Nothing really came out of it.

EDIT: EXHIBIT C1: How could I forget about this one haha. When the rebel ships bridge gets blown up and Leia is floating in space, instead of freezing to death, running out of O2, or whatever would actually happen, she used the force to float back to an entrance of the ship and get back in. I was in disbelief at how bad that scene was.

    Exhibit C2:
The whole Finn and, I think Rose?, going to some Casino town to get help was not great. I feel like they only added this stuff to check off the box of weird animals and puppet aliens. Then they meet some random guy who is going to be their code breaker who betrays them and it all just seemed so forced.

    BONUS WTF MOMENT:
They try and go to Maz for help. Like why? what is her role.

    Exhibit D:
Snoke! Like What the actual F&^K. He is the Supreme Leader. He tapped into the force to get Rey and Kylo to see and talk to each other. No back story on who he is/was and how he came to power. Super powerful in the force then gets cleaved in halve without ever fighting. We see a glimpse of his power with some lightning he jams at Kylo and that is it. Like what was the point of his existence other than to be "bad guy number 1" He was super strong with the force so he had to be around during 4,5,6 days but just nothing about his back story and hes gone. LAME

    Exhibit E:
Speaking of being really strong in the force. Kylo stopped a blaster bullet in mid air in episode 7. Then in the fight with the elite guards after Snoke was killed he doesnt even use a single force push or choke or anything. You would think this kid could crush skulls with his mind. meh

    Exhibit F:
Oh, the whole "Rey, your parents come from nothing, just a bunch of junk finders." Way to kill another plot point.

    Exhibit G:
Well, so Force Ghost Yoda comes and visits Luke to give some advice. If they are going to use Force Ghosts and Vader came back to the Light Side as a force ghost, why wouldnt he just tell Kylo to quit being a D bag. But that is not related to this movie. What is questionable is that Yoda blows up the Jedi teachings, but alas, at the end we see Rey had taken all the old texts. Like Yoda and Luke couldnt sense that or what? Whatever.

    Exhibit H:
Why not have droid manned ships just light speed thru all the star destoryers, or heck, the death star, anything really and blow them up. slippery slope.

    Exhibit I:
The part of the movie that I thought was the best was Luke projecting himself in front of Kylo and that whole fight/exchange. Super cool to finally see some of Lukes ultimate power. Oh wait, then he died right after. lame.

Sprinkle in some bad jokes for laughs and what not. bravo. made a star wars worse than the prequels.

I probably will never watch this episode again, and for sure not going to see the next one at a midnight showing. Very disappointing

EDIT: added these things to first post so all my rage is listed here:

Addendum 1: Ending episode 7 on a cliff hanger with Rey anding Luke his lightsabre, then Luke tossing it over his shoulder for a cheap laugh in E8

Addendum 2: Showing Chewie eating those cute little critters for no reason, kinda messed up to portray a beloved character that way.

Addendum 3: Just a terrible plot device as "running out of gas" as being the big event that is causing all the turmoil.

Addendum 4:If they are just tracking the main ship, uh duh, warp to hyperspace in the other ships and stay alive and save your fleet. derrr

Addendum 5: Do the knights of ren even exist in this story anymore?

Addendum 6: The entire start of Ep 7 is about the map fragment to find Luke, who doesnt want to be found cause he has a sweet spear fishing spot with fresh, non-pasteurized alien tit milk all to himself!

It was a wierd movie with some very strange plot twists, I want to really like it, but something just didn’t feel “right”

    #4 6 years ago

Wow, you're rough on the movie.

I will admit, the part with Finn & Rose going to the casino planet was weak. IMO, they should've shortened that up.

As for Kylo Ren telling Rey who her parents were...I think he was just lying to her. In the original trilogy, Leia & Luke, Luke & Vader have a connection...due to being family. Kylo and Rey have a connection...I still say they are brother and sister.

The humor is kind of needed, for how dark this movie is.

As for tracking, remember, Darth Maul was able to track the ship to Tattooine in Phantom Menace.

    #5 6 years ago

Yeah, I hated the part where Luke was so mentally tired and worn down that he just disappeared????? What???

    #6 6 years ago
    Quoted from Trekkie1978:

As for tracking, remember, Darth Maul was able to track the ship to Tattooine in Phantom Menace.

hmm, did that ship go thru hyperspace? Cant recall but it probably did. good point. everyone shouldnt be so surprised if that tech has existed for that long tho.

I really expected them to kill off Leia, but she seems an integral part of the rebelling still (seeing how its like 15 people now...) i wonder how they are going to do her scenes next time, total CGI?

The fact that Carrie Fisher died, why not kill off Leia and let Luke remain??? Now how do they go forward with her character in the next movie?? Only a few people survived all the attacks???

    #9 6 years ago

They would have had to reshoot the whole back third of the movie to kill off Leia. I have no idea how they're going to figure that out in Episode 9 (they said no CGI replacement) so we'll see.

Luke vanishing was awesome. Just like how Yoda went in ROTJ. His work here was done and now he's truly one with the Force. Awesome. And you know he ain't gone - he's coming back dressed in blue for Part 9!

    #10 6 years ago

I knew something didn’t feel right about Luke’s fight with Kylo REN, it’s becase he had a just for men colored beard and shorter hair. Just seemed odd. He didn’t have the longer gray beard

If everybody hates these movies so much why do they keep seeing 'em?

Hell I'm one to talk. They haven't made a good Terminator movie in 25 years and I still go.

I didn’t hate it, I enjoyed it. The movie just didn’t feel right to me, like it was trying too hard to be Star Wars?? Does that make sense?

I liked episode 7, and I did not hate the prequels as much as most people. This one I thought was really bad tho. very disappointed. I stopped watching the Terminator movies tho hah.

Yeah first thing I noticed when he walked up to Leia in the bunker, it was like, wait a minute, thats the flash back Luke.

It's decent, all of them have major plot holes and things that make zero sense. They are meant to be fun and nothing more. People seem to like movies these days every bit as much as they like new pinball machines. They rush to pay money for it, declare it sucks, rinse and repeat.

    #18 6 years ago

I will say that I totally hate that ending scene with the kids. A fine way to end a movie...but not a Star Wars movie.

    #19 6 years ago

Speaking of ending... 7 ends with this super cool cliff hanger with Rey handing Luke his Lightsabre, that has huge significance,
then he just tosses it over his shoulder. dumb. way to kill a great vibe into a shitty joke.

Oh. and the main plot point of. wait for it. they are going to run . out. of. gas.
    nice.

The part where Leia Mary Poppin's herself back to the ship, after floating in space, and never really using the force before, really pissed me off. It would had made sense for her to die there. I literally said WT* out loud in the theater. So stupid.

I agree, reminds me of the scene in GOtG where she’s floating in space,

Down to 57% on rotten tomatoes with 63,933 reviews as of 12/15/2017 1:12 PM Mountain

Metacritic is just from Critics, not the general public. Apparently the critics love this movie as it is 93% at Rotten Tomatoes where the general public is at 57%. I personally think the general audience rating is a better indication than the critics who get paid to do it and could have an agenda.

It was such a bad scene, and shot so poorly. It looked really dumb how she did it and yeah, she hadn't done s&^T with the force previously.

Glad you liked it. Did you find yourself not liking anything in particular, or pretty much on board with the whole movie? Just curious as everyone I've talked to in person has had similar, maybe not as negative but def not a glowing review, view as myself.

    #26 6 years ago

I liked it, floating Leia was definately gotg, but I was happy to see her use the force. This will have to be seen again to appreciate, reminds me of Iron man 2, I was disappointed after seeing it, now it's my favorite of the 3.

I am a huge Star Wars fan and have been for a long time. Today at work I have felt so livid and upset with this movie its not even funny. All of your complaints are the same ones I have and I just can not believe this thing got past the writing room let alone got through anything. You forgot to add how horrible of a character and actor Rose was as well as Laura Dern having no significance in this movie and also just being a lame character. Also Poe and Finn not once having their characters being developed in any significant manner. Bringing Phasma back and then killing again (obviously didn't die in FA) was another just waste of time and head scratching experience. All 3 were thin lame characters in the first one and continue to be such here. Just an awful experience and I don't know if I can even sit through another 2 1/2 hours to even see if I can give it a second chance. It was exhausting to sit through. I can not add anything else for I will prob just smash my computer screen. Huge potential that in my opinion Disney just ran to the ground. Force Awakens had its fair share but I had no problems with that one. They did a good enough job for what they had and executed it. This was just a disappointment and I am sad that it came to this...o well. Just a movie but damn.

Yeah, I didnt add the Phasma to my list of issues cause I think I blocked that out from my mind lol. Probably just to sell more toys, bring her back.

I agree with character development, I was really happy that Fin was going to sacrifice himself at the end, and was like, well he atleast redeemed himself in some way, but alas, Rose to the rescue.

Just saw the movie....I don't see that many issues with this movie.

Point A, they did explain the tech for tracking via light speed.

THis was such a better movie than the prequels. EPisode 1 was horrible except the fight scene. THe problem is, nostalgia. We all LOVE ep 4-6. We have all these feels and thought on how other SW's movies should be. Now disney wants to cater to a new generation of SW fans, that are young to keep the franchise going. So they are slowly handing it off to a younger cast. Us old people that are obsessed with the original, will probably not like it. But honestly what franchise with sequels do people actually like? I don't think they could ever make a movie that original fans would like.

was the explanation, "oh, they have this thing in this area of their ship that is tracking us" cause thats all i caught. like how did they get it on the other ship and able to track thru light speed? I honestly dont know, if i missed it then i missed it. if they were only tracking 1 ship, they should have shot all the other ships in light speed in a different course...

    It is all subjective .
I do not use Rotten Tomatoes .
IMDB is were I go for my user ratings . It is one of the best sites for user reviews that I have been reading and submitting for 11 years . http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2527336/?ref_=inth_ov_tt
Comparing IMDB and Rotten Tomatoes does shows how subjective the general populous is in there views on films and other media like TV and paid streaming service programing .

was the explanation, "oh, they have this thing in this area of their ship that is tracking us" cause thats all i caught. like how did they get it on the other ship and able to track thru light speed? I honestly dont know, if i missed it then i missed it. if they were only tracking 1 ship, they should have shot all the other ships in light speed in a different course...

hahah, yes! It was like, they have this new tech that tracks ships, but only on the main ship.

    Can't beat the classics!

Love Star Wars. Big fan as a kid growing up.

Quit watching when they started sneaking in the political undertones a few years ago. Whether you're for the agenda or not please leave it out of my movies and sports. Those are usually my release from the world.......besides pinball

Haven't seen the last 2 or 3 that came out and have no plans to.

I feel bad for everyone that was disappointed.

Haven't we expected that coming from Disney? I mean...in theory all their movies kind of do...

Funny that you wrote that just now.
I'm literally standing inside the entry hall of the movie theater. I'm here to see Star Wars with the family. Walked out after an hour and decided to surf Pinside instead.

The movie is bad. How did it go wrong that fast? The last one was decent to good. This one sucks.....

I really expected them to kill off Leia, but she seems an integral part of the rebelling still (seeing how its like 15 people now...) i wonder how they are going to do her scenes next time, total CGI?

I suspect she will have a funeral or they will discuss her death in the early part of episode 9. I have seen where one of the key people involved in the story line said she would not be in the next film in CGI.

I scene which had me saying 'WTF' was when Finn was literally going to kill himself to save everyone (well he would have been shot before or would have melted but let's ignore that)
Then Rose comes out to no where to crash her ship into his. Almost killing him and her...and putting everyone else at risk. Whyyyyy? Then that stupid kiss.

Then somehow he carries her back ALLL the way to the cave before the first order get there. How did he get there so quickly? Would have taken an hour to walk. Why wasnt he killed by the giant freaking machines right next to him while he was walking back carrying a heavyset person?

Why are almost all critic reviews so good? Is everyone afraid of Disney since they are so powerful? I was going to see the movie anyway but it's just disappointing that the reviews are so lopsided.

Also you cannot arc shots in space. There is no curvature because they aren't on planet.
You cannot drop bombs either.... They need to be propelled.
Well no fire in space as well but almost all movies do that.

I am very fun at parties.

I don't understand the hang up with tracking through hyperspace not being explained. Didn't they say they had rigged it to track the one ship which Snoke seemed very impressed that his guy had done that?

    Quoted from Coz:

Yeah, I hated the part where Luke was so mentally tired and worn down that he just disappeared????? What???

He wanted to pass on and essentially willed himself into a force ghost. I am sure he will be in the 9th movie as a force ghost. He said he had come to the island to die which he did.

I also suspect Kylo was lying to Rey about her parents to sway her to join him. I still am not convinced her parents are not somebody we know from the original trilogy most likely.

fair enough, then they should have just hyper spaced with the other craft in different directions and yay they all live.

What?! You totally can drop bombs and when ships get blowned up they fall from space!

Jebus...I just thought of that as well as far as how the hell they got there in that short of time with that great of distance. Dumb to even think they could even stop that thing with those POS ships.....Yeah and this whole relationship crap needs to stop. Star Wars doesn't need this. We didn't need this Rose character either....

What relationship? Does Finn want Rose, Rey, or Poe. It is not exactly clear but I would guess Rey, but actors have been hinting at Poe.
Also, the original trilogy had at least one relationship and that added to the plot and made the film more than just another macho war movie.

i wish force ghost anakin would have just told kylo to stop being a d bag and worshiping his helmet and then skip this whole trilogy

everyone, it's just a movie!! an excuse to get out of the house and eat popcorn. it's designed to make you escape from real life, not compare it to it.

anyway, i thought it was fun.
