    Quoted from HoakyPoaky:

To me, this reeks of the same problems that plagued the Rey Trilogy. Gender & ethnicity diversity, representation, corporate-group-think, on & on. It's like they've learned nothing from their past mistakes.

Right there in the writers room.

They are not interested in making a great movie, they wish to cram as many BS virtue signaling points as they can into a single frame. Nothing about character arcs, plots etc.

Stick a fork in it, you have people writing Harry Potter fan fiction in charge of Star Wars.

Oh my...is that legit from the writers or was that from some focus group? It looks suspiciously like focus group material from a random mall. Dinosaurs?

No wonder SW is so fucked up... they're writing by committee, lol. Committee of ordinary mouthbreathers. Ok, so this epic saga is now over.

Hey man, didn't you see the board littered with amazing ship designs, stellar character art, massive plot trees, and so many other fantastic and novel things created by inspired creators and not some vulgar money grabbing think group?

    Oh.

    Oh.
    Wait......

Yeah, but I got the cure for what ails you....I just finished the first season of Doom Patrol, I highly recommend it, I mean if your tired of the same ol shit with these comic book blockbuster crap that they're throwing at us....Doom Patrol was surprising and well written. Yeah, there were some semi background stories for the heros that were a little bit of a bore but generally very entertaining.

PS: I also watched the first couple of episodes of The Boys, and I was floored how good it was for a streaming series, again well written and acted. I would go as far as saying it's probably a little better than Doom Patrol but then again the budget is probably 4x as much.

That is a diverse group of people. Just need a kid in a wheelchair.
On a side note, I've been watching Picard. Man, star wars ain't the only franchise getting it hard in the impulse engines..
You see what I did there??

Picard is simply following the pacing set by shows like GoT. Not saying I agree with it, but it will never be the old trek again.

The problem with Star Wars - Stop building on a theme and start telling an engaging story. They've put the theme at the forefront. That Star Wars "heart" column needs to be in the background and not the foreground - and some of it should be left out movie to movie. When they start from a point of "our story HAS TO include these themes" it becomes forced, it becomes formulaic, and people will compare it to the others before it. The theme needs to be consistent yes.......in the background, but the story needs to be its own unique thing. And when the theme is at the forefront and is consistent then the stories also become consistent, boring, and will be picked apart for their inconsistencies against the earlier movies. If you look at the Rogue Squadron or Thrawn series, those things are there, but are in the background. Many of the popular books focus around TOS main characters - so yes popular. But the others as well take a character and put them at the front of the story vs fitting them into a formulaic theme.

Yea, that looks to be more of the same sadly. In fairness though, the new guy just got here, we know not what his future plans may be for Star Wars. I really don’t care who the actors/actresses are, I just want good and compelling story telling where the story not the message is the focus.

He may well be right, I don't know anything about the guy or what's going on at LucasFilm. Just had one of those "step back and say 'woah'" moments as we sit here in 2020 reading a non-satirical news article sourced, without further comment, from a "Youtuber Doomcock." You have to admit there's something deeply strange (and hilarious) about that.

More details from the Rise of Skywalker have been released thanks to a new book! The Emperor we saw was a clone, Rey can manipulate things through the force thanks to learning from Luke, etc. How exciting! All I can think is...who cares? Lol. Pass, I'm so over this new trilogy.

    //FLAME SUIT ON
Wow, what a bad movie. I am clearly a big fan of star wars and went to the 1 am showing when I work at 8 am.
Spoiler Alert, turn back now if you havent seen it or do not want any spoilers
From start to finish it was just bad.
I'll try to break it down chronologically
    Exhibit A:
So at the beginning the First Order tracks down the Rebels, yadda yadda yadda, then they TRACK THEM THROUGH LIGHT SPEED / HYPERSPACE
and everyone is like, wow that is impossible! but they never deavle into the details of just how that was pulled off. stupid.
    Exhibit B:
The Rey with Luke stuff was pretty blah. Just was. Nothing really came out of it.
EDIT: EXHIBIT C1: How could I forget about this one haha. When the rebel ships bridge gets blown up and Leia is floating in space, instead of freezing to death, running out of O2, or whatever would actually happen, she used the force to float back to an entrance of the ship and get back in. I was in disbelief at how bad that scene was.
    Exhibit C2:
The whole Finn and, I think Rose?, going to some Casino town to get help was not great. I feel like they only added this stuff to check off the box of weird animals and puppet aliens. Then they meet some random guy who is going to be their code breaker who betrays them and it all just seemed so forced.
    BONUS WTF MOMENT:
They try and go to Maz for help. Like why? what is her role.
    Exhibit D:
Snoke! Like What the actual F&^K. He is the Supreme Leader. He tapped into the force to get Rey and Kylo to see and talk to each other. No back story on who he is/was and how he came to power. Super powerful in the force then gets cleaved in halve without ever fighting. We see a glimpse of his power with some lightning he jams at Kylo and that is it. Like what was the point of his existence other than to be "bad guy number 1" He was super strong with the force so he had to be around during 4,5,6 days but just nothing about his back story and hes gone. LAME
    Exhibit E:
Speaking of being really strong in the force. Kylo stopped a blaster bullet in mid air in episode 7. Then in the fight with the elite guards after Snoke was killed he doesnt even use a single force push or choke or anything. You would think this kid could crush skulls with his mind. meh
    Exhibit F:
Oh, the whole "Rey, your parents come from nothing, just a bunch of junk finders." Way to kill another plot point.
    Exhibit G:
Well, so Force Ghost Yoda comes and visits Luke to give some advice. If they are going to use Force Ghosts and Vader came back to the Light Side as a force ghost, why wouldnt he just tell Kylo to quit being a D bag. But that is not related to this movie. What is questionable is that Yoda blows up the Jedi teachings, but alas, at the end we see Rey had taken all the old texts. Like Yoda and Luke couldnt sense that or what? Whatever.
    Exhibit H:
Why not have droid manned ships just light speed thru all the star destoryers, or heck, the death star, anything really and blow them up. slippery slope.
    Exhibit I:
The part of the movie that I thought was the best was Luke projecting himself in front of Kylo and that whole fight/exchange. Super cool to finally see some of Lukes ultimate power. Oh wait, then he died right after. lame.
Sprinkle in some bad jokes for laughs and what not. bravo. made a star wars worse than the prequels.
I probably will never watch this episode again, and for sure not going to see the next one at a midnight showing. Very disappointing
EDIT: added these things to first post so all my rage is listed here:
Addendum 1: Ending episode 7 on a cliff hanger with Rey anding Luke his lightsabre, then Luke tossing it over his shoulder for a cheap laugh in E8
Addendum 2: Showing Chewie eating those cute little critters for no reason, kinda messed up to portray a beloved character that way.
Addendum 3: Just a terrible plot device as "running out of gas" as being the big event that is causing all the turmoil.
Addendum 4:If they are just tracking the main ship, uh duh, warp to hyperspace in the other ships and stay alive and save your fleet. derrr
Addendum 5: Do the knights of ren even exist in this story anymore?
Addendum 6: The entire start of Ep 7 is about the map fragment to find Luke, who doesnt want to be found cause he has a sweet spear fishing spot with fresh, non-pasteurized alien tit milk all to himself!

    STAR WARS
    The Last Jedi (2017)
    Real 3D Blu-Ray

    Director: Rian Johnson
Starring: Adam Driver, Andy Serkis, Anthony Daniels, Benicio Del Toro, Billie Lourd, Carrie Fisher, Daisy Ridley, Domhnall Gleeson, Gwendoline Christie, John Boyega, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Laura Dern, Lupita Nyong'o, Mark Hamill, Oscar Isaac, Tom Hardy

I will admit I am wired with a with the sense of melancholy sensibilities. I lost track of how many times I got emotional while watching Rian Johnson's film. But I'm sure I also laughed hard just as many times, if not more. It is in general mind-blowing, it is emotional and it is filled with surprises. The Last Jedi really manages to keep the Star Wars spirit while being innovative on many fronts. Nothing can prepare you for the emotional ride it takes you on. It's a truly epic journey.

Star Wars: Episode VIII had some amazing set pieces. Wonderful cinematography and special effects. The 3D presentation added to the film. If you like that effect. The fabulous film score from the greatest film composers of all time, John Williams was fantastic.

The acting from Mark Hamill and Carrie Fisher is sublime. Tapping into my sense of nostalgia for Star Wars Saga. Daisy Ridley as Rey is tremendous. Johnson eloquently deepens his characters in the story long, long ago in the galaxy far, far away. Adam Driver is welcome strength returning as the Dark Side Force's Kylo Ren. The other narrative threads are often perfunctory in the subplot with Resistance fighters Finn, played by solid John Boyega, Poe Dameron, played by intrepid Oscar Isaac, and Rose, played by stellar newcomer Kelly Marie Tran. And how does't like Benicio Del Toro ? Fantastic !

The Last Jedi is clever, well-tailored and genuine. Heroes , villains, and those who are somewhere in between. Rian Johnson created a beautiful tale a filmed it with stylistic brilliance and terrific pacing. From the excellent cinematography, snappy dialogues and first rate music, The Last Jedi made me feel overwhelmed and fills you with odd admiration for the story that is being conveyed. 8.5/10

This is fantastic news IMO. Fan favorite character finally makes live action debut. Dave Filoni created her, so you know they will bring her to life the right way on The Mandalorian. For those who don't know.... if Rey is everything done wrong about a strong female Jedi, then Ahsoka is everything done right. Really looking forward to how they execute this.

I also saw some fan speculation. The last time we saw the Darksaber before Moff Giddeon had it, it belonged to the Mandalorian Sabeen Wren on the Rebels TV show, and Ahsoka was last seen with her. It's possible that the Mandalorian could tie into the ending of Rebels, which happen just after ROTJ, which is the same time period the Mandalorian takes place in.

And since there is the possibility of tying Rebels/Mandalorian together now, what if it turned out that Moff Gideon was actually working for someone else to acquire Baby Yoda... and that person turned out to be Grand Admiral Thrawn? Holy shit that would be incredible. Thrawn also disappeared at the end of Rebels, so he's potentially still out there. You know he was always searching for force sensitive creatures in the Thrawn trilogy novels too. Exciting!

From Crazy Days and Nights.. A Hollywood gossip site with a very, very good track record of some of the inside dirt that goes on there.

The CEO was was fingered as Iger and the overseas property was Shanghai Disneyland.

If you peruse CDAN I warn you, a lot of dark stuff there I stopped going as it is really depressing. They fingered Harvey Weinstein long before anything went public.

Yeah, well, I still think Knives Out was great. Old school silly murder mystery in the spirit of Clue, all the acting (and accents) turned up to 11. Rotten Tomatoes says audiences and critics dug it too. So not shocking Johnson’s focusing on this franchise rather than writing more SW movies he’ll probably never get to shoot.

I'm curious if anyone purchased a copy of TROS? It's been available for awhile now, but I just cannot bring myself to buy it. I sit & think about the first impressions I had seeing it in the theater, and then I have absolutely no desire to see it again. I figure I'll just wait for it to come onto Disney+, and then I'll see if it's as bad as I remember. That story just cannot hold up to close scrutiny or repeat viewings.

I think I also read somewhere that there are no deleted scenes on the bluray? Is that true? They shot endless hours of film & scenes that hit the cutting room floor, but Kennedy doesn't want any of that JJ footage to leak out? Even less reason to buy it then. I'm curious if JJ even bothered to record a directors commentary for it. He probably just washed his hands & didn't want anything more to do with it.

    Dave,

Its actually pretty good. My brother claims it is his new favorite star wars. I have only watched it 1 time on blue ray but consider it a top 4 SW movie maybe.

Just because TLJ blew donkey dick doesn't mean TROS had too as well. Lots of action and i never felt bored watching it or upset with the plot.

I thought TROS was really good as well. Does it match up to what enthusiasts expect from a Star Wars movie? No, no movie can do that, even if the original 3 were never made and released today haha. But, it was a pretty dam good movie regardless.

    top 4 SW movie maybe.

To be fair, the competition gets a little sketchy once you're out of the top three ...

Here's all the dumb things about I can recall about the dumb mcguffin chasing story.....

Chewy's dead......no wait he's still alive. Things that make absolutely no sense....like teleporting physical objects with the force, lightspeed hopping, quicksand with caves under it, accepting the fact that Emperor Palpitine got laid & had offspring, etc etc.. Cringe worthy jokes like "They fly now". How about Palpatine blasting his own face off with his own force lightning? The dumb kiss between Kylo & Rey. Countless other things I'm forgetting I'm sure...

To be fair, Palpatine does have a history of blasting his own face off...

Stuck at home for a few weeks , maybe I’ll watch TROS . Watched Mandalorian thought it was ok for a while but the last 2 episodes of season one were horrible, so I’ve completely lost interest on that .
