I finally got a chance to watch Star Wars: The Fallen Knight fan edit of TLJ after a suggestion by gdonovan

http://www.thefallenknight.com (Note: Only the 4GB downloaded for me due to google terms of service - But the quality was still very good)

Well, I must say it was a VAST improvement. In my mind, it will now be the ONLY version I will ever watch again.

They corrected Luke throwing of the lightsaber over the shoulder, cut out the whole Canto Bight sequence and all events leading up to and after that pertain to that sub-plot. It removes the Leia getting blown out of the ship scene and removes Admiral Ackbar's death, removes the whole Poe mutiny attempt plot, almost completely removes the characters of Holdo and Rose, and does completely remove both DJ (Benecio Del Toro) and Captain Phasma.

The core story remains intact, fixes many of the issues, plot holes and pointless scenes, and I did not feel that anything was missing from the final product.

I must thank the guy that put it together. Clark Zuckerberg, thankyou very much!

    Quoted from InfiniteLives:

The entire start of Ep 7 is about the map fragment to find Luke, who doesnt want to be found cause he has a sweet spear fishing spot with fresh, non-pasteurized alien tit milk all to himself!

I re-read my initial post and i think this is my fav part of it.

so the movie was only 15 min long?

    Quoted from CaptainNeo:

    104 minutes apparently

I started to watch but was streaming and I had a bad lip sync. While I like the idea of fan edit, there is only so much that can be done. Don't like the momma jokes it just skips 1-2 minutes ahead. I'd rather just watch a good movie than watch a bad movie that is edited down to make it somewhat less bad.

You can't make a silk purse out of a sow's ear.

It is amazing that people will spend such time on a crappy movie.

    As Bill would say:

    As Bill would say:

That's just the thing, if you had never seen the movie previously and the fan edit was the only version one watched, they would not even know that parts of the original movie were missing, because the parts that have been cut out are completely redundant to the main story. The movie is much better with the edited version.

It even somewhat improves (very slightly) the Luke Skywalker plot by cutting out some of the crap on the island. It somehow makes his return as a force projection more meaningful...but maybe that is just me force projecting the desire to see the movie in the best light.

One of the most important edits was removing the light saber being thrown over the shoulder. That was so jarring and out of character in the movie. Instead with the way it has been edited, he merely drops the light saber. That cut changes the scene dramatically. Using your football analogy, that is a touchdown in my opinion.

Agreed, the edited version is better and more true to the Star Wars universe.

The basic story is still poor but the more jarring elements are gone. Went from being a bad movie to merely a mediocre one.

Some changes in dialog would be ideal (laser sword vs light saber for one example), but it is what the guy had to work with and he did an outstanding job on his edit.

Sad "some guy" on the internet does a better job than Disney's director and team.

About time. Rian Johnson was a slimy, double-crossing, no-good swindler for not including Lando somewhere in TLJ...but thinking about it now, Billy Dee Williams dodged a bullet on that one.

    #2309 1 year ago

Oh yeah! I can see Lando going out in Episode 9 by smashing the Falcon into something with Nien Nunb back in the copilot chair. Right before the crash have Lando say "yeah baby!", cut to Nien Nunb doing his Return of the Jedi laugh and then epic explosion as the Falcon smashes into say Kylos capital ship. For Han and Leia!hqdefault.jpg

This past month I read the Hunger Games trilogy to my 10 and 11 year old daughters. We have since watched the four films. I can’t help but compare the stories of central character Katniss to that of Rey. When I say compare I mean there is no comparison. Katniss’ journey and story arc is complex and compelling. Rey’s (current) journey is a joke. The storytelling is a joke.

Star Wars is off the rails. Go ahead Disney, roll out the old bones of Billy Dee Williams so you can do some more pandering. Big surprise there btw. Keep being shown up by better storytellers. Keep letting fans edit your own movies better than you do. Ridiculous.

    #2311 1 year ago

so will Billy Dee finally bang C3PO?

Unnecessary move bringing back an original actor.

Seeing geriatric Lando on screen sounds even less appealing than geriatric Indiana Jones. Awful. Some things are best left alone. Lando's scene drinking Colt 45 & playing sabbac at the Mos Eisley retirement home will be a real crowd pleaser (NOT). I'm sure this is a cameo, not a starring role. He's getting pretty old.

If you're going to use Billy Dee in a cameo, wouldn't have made more sense to have him turn out to be the mysterious rose wearing codebreaker in the Canto Bight casino scene in TLJ? Instead of some quickly forgotten doofy looking guy in a white tux? Oh right, that would have destroyed round headed Rian Johnson's vision.

The re-imagining of ROTJ is full speed ahead now. I'm sure JJ will come up with some real nostalgia for Ep9..... like Lando falling into the sarlacc pit, Rose hugging an Ewok, and a climatic 4th Death Star explosion. I'm out.

    #2316 1 year ago

Billy Dee is 81 years old.

[edit] Never mind... he already told them to get bent.

    HAHAHA!

What are you going to threaten me with? Another bad movie?

    Be my guest.

Edit: The directors utterly impotent rage is hilarious and the fact they are out in public flapping gums tells me Disney has still NOT GOTTEN THE MESSAGE and locked down all social media related to Star Wars. It is like watching a horror movie where the actress is reaching for the door handle to open the door and you are screaming "DON'T DO IT YOU'RE GOING TO DIE".. and they open the door anyway. And die.

Just like the Star Wars franchise.

Is there a link to the story? I’m just seeing gifs.

    Quoted from fosaisu:

Is there a link to the story? I’m just seeing gifs.

I just had the screen shot come over the transom this morning, quick Bing search for "Star Wars Last Jedi backlash and fan boycott: Director WARNS there will be consequences" turned up this:

    https://www.express.co.uk/entertainment/films/986642/Star-Wars-Last-Jedi-backlash-fan-boycott-Han-Solo-flop-Kathleen-Kennedy-Rian-Johnson

I don't agree with the contents of his tweet, it would have been fairly easy to make the next Star Wars movie as long as the film makers followed canon to some degree, exhibited some basic storytelling skills in writing and treated the characters with respect.

If Luke Skywalker was treated with some degree of respect and Rey had some sort of story arc.. hand off to a new generation of characters would not be that hard. Hell it was expected due to the age of the actors.

    'nuff said.

Edit: I thought this was amusing.

Mangold added: "If you feel the film makers are just corporate tools and powerless, then why bitch at us? In the case of Rian Johnson and (Mission Impossble director) Chris McQuarrie, I assure you these cats are not “owned”. They actually fight your battles behind the scenes."

Fight my battles? Rian admitted he didn't even understand the final battle between Luke and Vader.

Good vs Evil, The temptation of power, sacrifice, mercy and redemption.

    #2326 1 year ago

Thanks for the link. To be clear it’s a different SW director talking there about “consequences” (the guy who is supposedly making the Bobba Fett movie). I see his point though, I’m not sure who’d be jazzed about jumping in to direct future SW movies given all the hoopla and the polarized fan base. Though the millions in pay will probably still be a strong incentive...

    Quoted from fosaisu:

Seriously how hard would it be to make a decent Star Wars movie? Or even a middling one?

The Force Awakens and Rogue One are fairly mediocre in my opinion and there was no real backlash from the fans and Disney made a pile of money.

The fan backlash exists solely due to Rian Johnson/Kennedy and The Last Jedi. The director and the team at Lucasfilm took delight in telling fans to "get stuffed" and made no pains about hiding it. Give a decent director a free hand with a talented script writer and Disney could have this turned around in a single movie.

I'm fairly curious what James Cameron does with the next Terminator movie now that he has the rights back, if there is a franchise that has been run into the ground the Terminator franchise is it. Imagine what he could do with Star Wars? Avatar was not to my taste (Fern Gully in Space) but the visuals were great and made money hand over fist so clearly people liked it.

    #2328 1 year ago

I have to laugh at this quote

Mangold added: "Discussions of 'canon' would be more fruitful if A) Folks didn't assume anyone who disagrees is evil/incompetent and B) There was recognition that rules of dramatic narrative demand something happened to characters since you saw them last, that is, they can't be in same place you left them."

In response I would turn around and say:

"Discussions of the extremely poor story telling displayed in the TLJ would be more fruitful if A) Folks didn't assume that anyone who disagreed that this was a good movie were ''women-fearing' bigots". B) There was a recognition that the rules of good quality story telling/movie making demand some type of reasonable and realistic character development and story arc".

Then just nuke your account from orbit.

Deleting a bunch of posts looks highly suspicious to say the least. If you just shut down the whole account you can at least claim "I'm being harassed" or some other plausible excuse.

All wasted effort at this point I'm sure, someone's got his tweets archived and if there's dirt in there it'll come out. Maybe Disney just told him to knock if off as his various twitter fights aren't the kind of SW publicity they want going forward. If so that's a shame, as I find it all amusing, but multinational conglomerates have a way of sucking the fun out of everything!

Well there's a bit of backstory here at the moment that's building to fever pitch this week. There is an alt-right web network who are currently leading a social media crusade against liberal hyprocracy & anti-Trumpers. I suppose they are similar to SJWs, just the opposite side of the coin. They have been digging up dirt, decade old posts, and tweets to try and get these people fired, with mixed results. Context matters if you ask me, and this kind of stuff is pretty absurd, because there's a difference between bad jokes & you know...actual pedophiles. But whatever, social media outrage is everywhere now, this is the world we live in. This is most likely related to (& seeking retribution for) Rosanne's recent fall from grace. Crazy shit goes on in the dark left/right corners of the interweb. Start digging on YouTube for 5 minutes & you'll get the idea.

They went after James Gunn & got him fired. They went after Dan Harmon, creator of Rick & Morty yesterday. Countless other examples, going on in comics, movies & social media in general. This is the age we live in now. You're going to see lots of celebs erasing their tweets or deleting accounts, because it simply is not worth the risk. The interwebs can be a real nasty place. Personally I have better things to do than waste energy on that stuff, like enjoying life & playing pinball

    Quoted from HoakyPoaky:

They went after James Gunn & got him fired.

Gunn's own words and actions got him fired, as a father with three children his multiple postings were utterly reprehensible.

Posting a video on his *own website* of 100 prepubescent girls singing "I touch myself" and then posting he was sexually aroused is not funny to normal people.

    Quoted from HoakyPoaky:

Was just pointing out the backstory behind people deleting tweets. And by they, I mean Mike Cernovich, who has a long track record of his own controversies.

With that said, ZERO interest debating what is offensive, getting political, or passing judgement (especially in this Star Wars thread).

Disney firing the dude for those tweets makes perfect sense, they're a very conservative company (corporate-culture wise, not politically) and stuff that a shock jock or gonzo comedian might get away with isn't going to fly at Disney.

The people "putting 2+2 together and starting to investigate" bit is what's funny. Doing deep research in the Twitter archives seems like a pretty lame hobby, that stuff is vapid enough when it's fresh. But I guess we all need something to keep ourselves busy.

Lots of weasel words in that article, would be curious if Lucas would come back but I doubt it. The man has 4 billion in the bank and the prequels now look better in comparison to TLJ. I'd get out of town as fast as my feet would carry me.
