Oh also how could I forget. WHAT THE HELL HAPPENED TO C3PO'S RED ARM???!

Tune into the new standalone movie that explains it, in 2032.

Or, just the most face slapping example of them not being able to keep even the barest of plot threads between movies (unless they really really had to). I had honestly forgotten about that arm, as I had only seen TFA one time. Maybe the film makers did as much research as I did when writing the script

Didn't you know Jedi's could fly in space?

But everyone here who loves the original has no problem explaining away how they escaped the death star by shooting a hole to the trash compactor?

To be fair it was a vent grating to the trash compactor.

    Plausible enough.

What I thought was odd was no one jumped in after them, unless they knew they were trapped or didn't want to get shot needlessly.

I’m glad I read about this scene before I saw the movie - it was not Nearly as bad as I expected. I think it sets up things nicely for Leia’s Kid to come back in the next movie, and with full force powers. As to who that is...

The Farce is strong in this one!

    #663 6 years ago

Wow I just got back from seeing The Last Jedi yesterday honestly didn’t think it was going to be as bad as some said, but I was unpleasantly surprised how bad it was.

It started out good enough opening but it just started to unravel, it felt like Star Wars to begin with but as it unravelled lots that Star Wars feel, then came the big problems.

Leia’s Man of Steel moment was extremely jarring, Rey is just too good too quick compared to Anakin/Vader and Luke’s time to become competent with the Force, Kylo Ren without his mask and cool voice is pretty lame and the way they ultimately handled Luke was probably the most disappointing thing I have ever seen in a cinema.

First off it is a subjective topic . Music , Film , Art , Theartre . Secondly we live in a free society. Thirdly we have a "frontal lode" that serves to regulate and mediate the higher intellectual functions. This enable people to have free thought and form subjectivity . If you do not understand this facet of life. Well you may be beyond all hope . P.S. Just busting your balls.

My frontal "lobe" does not comprehend your grammar. Luckily I was able to determine the differences between objective and subjective analyses. Choose either, the movie was still bad.

Lol. Subjectivity definition the quality of being based on or influenced by personal feelings, tastes, or opinions.

It's a bit NSFW with the language. I don't expect anybody to completely watch this video. Just skip around or watch parts of it at the very least. I always trust their reviews though because they are pretty honest. It's almost as if Rian Johnson was the second shift guy and screwed up and left the day shift guy, J.J Abrams to fix and get the job done.

    #676 6 years ago

The movie is actually so bad, I’ve told everyone to save their money and download it illegally; that is, if they have over two and a half hours they just hate.
    Just from a writing/plot/narrative perspective.

    #677 6 years ago

I finally saw the movie tonight with my son. We are both huge SW fans. We both thought it was AWESOME! I'm reading some of the comments and I just think were you haters asleep? Some the stuff you're complaining about was explained. And for the few holes in the plot, there were no more holes than mnay of the other best sci fi movies.

So many iconic scenes. Loved Luke vanishing into the force. Loved Leia floating back to the ship. Loved the scene with Luke staring down the AT-ATs. Loved the scene with Chewy trying to eat the space penguins. I even loved the kid at the end clearly telling the audience that there would be future Jedis. Loved Snope getting cut in half - didn't see that one coming.

Oh, I liked that there were butt-loads of space battles. Loved the opening bombing scene. Loved the ship jumping to light speed slicing through the Dreadnought.

I did have a couple minor complains. The Rose character was weak. The casino scene was a little weak and I could do without the horse things. They should have figured a way to re-edit the end and kill off Leia. That's going to be awkward in the next film.

Sure there were certain plot devices that they reused but that's what makes it a SW movie. I would say this was easily top 3 SW for me.

I detest people who pirate movies. It is a completely scummy, criminal thing to do. Show some class.

BTW, we wanted to go see the 4pm showing but all shows were sold out until 10:20pm. And that showing was almost sold out. I think this movie has legs.

And here’s another perspective: “Yes, the massive week two drop is disappointing overall. But when your movie is still on pace to be one of the top ten highest-grossing films both domestic and worldwide of all time, you’re still in a good position. No need to hit the panic button.”

A little confirmation bias going on here. You don't like the movie so you start dredging up facts to support the fact that it is a terrible movie. Unfortunately, the facts don't support that conclusion.

I can play that game too.

Let's see, two weeks at we sit at $745.4 million. Yeah, a real flop.

Rotten Tomatoes already came out with a statement that stated the bot story was 100% bogus.

The cold reality is the box office numbers which are PUBLICLY REPORTED are falling like a rock compared to other Star Wars movies.

The fact there is 680+ posts in this thread alone speaks volumes.

Disney PR isn't going to easily explain the falling numbers away.

I'm surprised that they are not screaming misogynists and Lucas white male fan nerds are why the movie isn't doing better.

    Give them another month.

Edit- By the way I see people are pushing the goalposts now. The positions going from "was it a great movie" to "will it make money" which are two distinct points. Can't argue it was great so now I'll argue it made Disney money!

Oh it will make back its cost.. in time. Disney is certainly not going to make as much cash as they expected. The real question will be how many viewers/fans will Disney lose for the next Star Wars movie?

I have already concluded that any of the Disney entries simply are not canon and have no interest in seeing any further episodes of Star Wars.

    #687 6 years ago

I’ve read this whole thread and lots of reviews, commentray and blogs about how bad and disappointing the movie is. Man, all the complaints - many quite valid - almost had me rethinking why I enjoyed the movie. Almost. I liked it, what can I say?

I liked it in spite of all the valid criticism, plot holes and lack of follow ups on TFA. I liked it in spite of the fact that I loathe the Poe Dameron character - no charisma, just none - Finn is just meh (TLJ certainly does Finn no favors, and Rose is lame), and Kylo is an awkward, pouty emo villain that kinda bugs me. I liked it even though Laura Dern was horrible!

I just left the movie feeling exhilarated and wanting more. Just the way a Star Wars movie should make me feel. If this is as bad as it can get, I think we’re in for some fun going forward. We’ll see.

And your point is? The poll in this thread is 248 positive to 79 negative (not counting people who just voted “Star Wars sucks”. That’s one 3 -1 in favor of the movie. On PINSIDE! Where if something can be overly criticized and beaten into the ground it will be. What’s THAT say about TLJ?

Well, this was unexpected. I liked it.

I was talked into actually going out and to a movie theater. This is only the second time in 2017. I’m the guy that hates pretty much every movie that comes out these days, or at least is aggravated by them. I though TFA was a derivative and boring mess. TLJ bogged down a bit here and there, overall I did enjoy it.

Going back and reviewing all of the complaints, I can’t argue a single one of them. They are all valid and point to weaknesses in the movie. But in general I won’t let space physics get in the way of a movie like this, because if you do that you might as will give up on the entire thing since every single detail is completely wrong and disconnected from reality. And I didn’t see the story in the same way others did.

This movie has weaknesses and issues as most do, but I never felt overly aggravated. The characters and actors were fine, nothing great but if you compare them to Hayden Christensen and Natalie Portman they should all get lifetime Oscar awards. The plot lines weren’t any sillier or more preposterous than any other Star Wars movie. The glue that held it together for me was Luke. Everything he did was exactly what I would think that Luke Skywalker would do. When she hands him the light sword and he tosses it over his shoulder? That to me was awesome. More importantly, it made sense. Well to me anyway. He’s gone beyond that. I don’t get why everyone is angry about his way of living. He is following in the footsteps of Yoda and Obi Wan, they did the exact same thing. It points to a sort of endpoint or possibly even a flaw in being a Jedi. Made perfect sense to me within the Star Wars universe.

The overall flow and action of the movie was fine for me. It’s interesting that so many people hated it, but then again there are some movies lots of people like that I thought were terrible. There’s no accounting for taste I guess.

Somehow the Leia flying scene didn’t bother me much. It kind of felt like they were channeling 2001 a bit. That silence when the ship was sliced in half? That I thought was awesomely cool. Like any movie there were a few things that kind stuck on my personal bother-meter.

The fight scene against the guards. It was ok itself and it had some cool parts. But as it went on, I kept thinking to myself well at this point these two should be able to obliterate this small group of guards in about 2 seconds. I suppose those guards could have been some sort of elite super fighters to protect the emperor.

Starship Troopers Space Parking. Then again pretty much every space movie has this. You have a fleet of spaceships and you have the entire expense of space to place them into, literally millions of miles in every direction, and you park them all within a few hundred yards of each other. I love the scene in Starship Troopers where when one is attacked it falls and crashes into another one.

In the end, you can always form your own opinion, who cares what everyone else says anyway? Like it was said earlier, everyone is a critic these days...

It is interesting to me that a lot of people I have talked to agree that their are all these major issues but still like it, you are not the only one. Which is great that the Star Wars magic still works for some! I do hope they bounce back with the next one but I have zero anticipation to see what happens like when the Force Awakens ended up till this release. I was super excited to see what happened but all those plot points for me fell flat. They pretty much closed every plot except bad guys vs good guys and added the weird Rose Finn love scene that I dont think ive heard anyone that liked that lol

    Quoted from TheFamilyArcade:

Well, depending on your expectations of this franchise I would say that most people probably want Star Wars to be better than "Decent" with its budget and pedigree

I look at it more like 242 people think it was Decent or Bad
and 106 people thought it was Really Good or Great

I want my Star Wars experience to be really good or great and it looks like the majority of people did not get that.

I am also surprised that I have positive thumbs up on the initial post with a 36 to 25 right now. I put my flame suit on at the start of this thread expecting to get thrashed because people seem to blindly love things like Star Wars and I wrote this the morning after the midnight release, thinking people would roast me on my take on it.

It does seem to be a very polarizing movie, whichever opinion you happen to have.

    #692 6 years ago

I saw it Christmas eve and to me it didn't make a bit of sense. What the hell was the casino planet about except maybe to usher in the little boy as the next Star Wars hero. IT had no purpose at all as far as I can see. It seems to me they are trying to change the whole franchise to carry it into the future for more bad movies.

Like it was said earlier, everyone is a critic these days...

did it make perfect sense that Luke left a map to find him just to tell that person who found him to suck it?

The map was there before KR destroyed the Jedi trainees and left Luke for dead because he thought Luke was going to try to kill him?

now that makes zero sense to me.

Why would he have a map to a place he isnt at before anything bad happens? it said he disappeared after Kylo killed the students and all that shit went down.

R2 had the final piece, Im guessing after all that shit went down he made it, sent R2 off and went to hide.

R2 powered on and showed it after being powered off for a really long time.

overanalysis of these types of movies just absolutely kills the fun and joy of them. Most of the plot issues mentioned are probably valid complaints, but I had fun watching the movie. If it was a totally new movie franchise, I probably would be complaining as well....but Star Wars is different. Somehow every time I see a new star wars movie, for about two hours I get to fall back into my 7 year old self when I first saw Return of the Jedi in the theater and just enjoy it.

Oh it will make back its cost.. in time. Disney is certainly not going to make as much cash as they expected.

Huh? The film all in will make over 2 Billion! I'm not worried about Disney...

I'm sure you've seen this along the way, maybe it was already posted.
    But....worth a laugh.

If you enjoyed the movie, congratulations and continue to enjoy it.
You won't be alone. Star Wars will always make money.
Wish I could join your ranks.

No doubt. Analysis of space physics and plot holes is kind of silly for a Star Wars fans. I don't think any of the plot holes were that outrageous to cause me not to enjoy the movie.

There were only a couple times where I thought, oh that was dumb but that rarely took me away from my immersion in the story. I think most oddities in this movie were explained. Luke's brown beard at the end bothered me for a minute. But I let it go and enjoyed the scene only to be shown why the beard was different in the next scene.
