So this is exactly how we feel that people just let all this bullshit slide and still like it lol

Yeah and James Bond would probably be dead before the opening credits in ANY of the films......

I have no problem with any of the sci-fi portions of this film. I dont give a f&3^ about the lasers and shields, gravity bombs etc.

I have a problem with the story arc and character development and stupid decisions that dont make sense in the historical context of the series.

I thought the cinematics and special effects , etc were great, but all that glitter on a turd is just a turd covered in glitter.

I wasn't going to ever watch this film. But this thread confirms that I will never, ever, ever watch it.

    Quoted from PanzerFreak:

Code is deep and unique with 1.0, very solid. One of Sterns best coded games in my opinion.

It really is. Very unique and gives the game a completely different feel. Plus you can play it numerous different ways with several different approaches so it has lasting power. Anyone caught up about a 40x multiplier needs to try to get it that high and see just how easy it is to accomplish.

    #457 6 years ago
    Quoted from CaptainNeo:

technically it's not possible, unless they were spring loaded or something to launch them that direction. Which the way it was filmed, was not possible the way they portrayed it.

They way it was portrayed in the movie it would work...that has been my entire point. There was a gravitational force in those bombers!. She fell from the upper deck to the lower deck. The bombs would also fall out the bottom from that same force! Once they leave the bomber they will continue on their path at the same speed until they hit something (or run into another gravitational force).

It's not deep code. It's just a ton of concurrent things running at once. It's just messy. It's totally unfit for the layout too. Total disconnect between physical and software design. Such a miss for the license.

If only there was someone way they could attach a rocket motor to those bombs.. like a torpedo! Yah, I think I'll suggest that for the next movie! Just think of all the lives that could have been saved!

The bombs should have moved towards the gravitational force when released. In this case, I'm assuming it is near the 'bottom' of the bomber, since she fell in that direction. So shouldn't they have stopped at the floor (or where ever the center of the force was located?)

There is no way the bombs could have achieved escape velocity using gravitational acceleration only. Kinda like Bitcoin.

Must be pretty deep as people really struggle to get through all the modes. It fits well for me and I see no disconnect at all. It's fun and different. People always want different but as soon as that happens you have people claiming it's a mess.

Sounds like you haven't played the game or at least not enough. You can completely turn off mode stacking if you want and there's several other options for it. Tournament mode turns off stacking by default.

The games main modes are broken up into 4 sections, 3 for each planet plus a mini wizard mode for each planet. Each planet has its own insert on the playfield to select a mode for that planet. That's very straightforward.

I've played it a ton. I've played pros, premiums, and even an LE. I don't like it. I'm not sure if I'm playing pinball or Pop'n Music at times with that stupid action button. Way overused. On the premium/LE level, the fork ramp is a clunker. People will tell you that you need to "dial it in," well, every one I play has issues. Same with the hyperloop.

I've played it a lot. I have been to the end of the code more than once. There are neat things buried in the stacks on stacks of crap, but they're not worth the effort. Why they would make a game that has more things going on than the game can properly indicate on the playfield is beyond me. It feels like overcompensation for the basic layout.

The game isn't hard to understand nor is it hard to play. It's just not fun to play.

Meh, your misery is my fun. Not sure how you are getting to the wizard mode if the fork ramps do not work right though

Eventually you get it done. You can't shoot it too cleanly, or it will reject. You can't hit it too softly, or it will roll right back down. You kinda have to slop it in with speed. It's dumb. It's also dumb hitting the backside of the forks. Really bad way to handle entrance to the loop.

    #468 6 years ago

Lets keep it to the movie rather than the pinball machine tho fellas

how did you feel about the maz kanata scene?

    Quoted from InfiniteLives:

how did you feel about the maz kanata scene?

Not my favorite. Contacting her is fine, but I didn't like the whole "I'm in a fight" aspect of it. She's obviously well connected to all sorts of people who can and will help the Resistance, so I don't mind it being her they reached out to.

    Exhibit A:
Easter Egg in Rogue 1 shows Empire had been developing hyperspace tracking.
    Exhibit B:
Rey with Luke worked for me, mostly because she wound up fixing him.
EDIT: EXHIBIT C1: Agreed that space Mary Poppins was straight up bad, especially since some of the footage could have been used in Ep. 9 to give Carrie Fisher an on screen farewell.
    Exhibit C2:
Finn-Rose investment of time on casino planet did not have much payout; if the relationship becomes meaningful (plot wise, not emotionally), I can forgive what should have been edited down to a quarter of the time or cut.
    BONUS WTF MOMENT:
Going to Maz for help- minimal time investment. If Max is going to play Deus ex machina in a cameo, that’s fine by me.
    Exhibit D:
Snoke served his narrative purpose as a bridge between Rey & Kylo and between VII and IX. Ren is no longer a Darth
Derivative, having succeeded where DV failed: overthrowing his dark side boss. Now he can be his very own villain. Snoke’s backstory can be told in some fanboy comic later.
    Exhibit E:
Kylo’s Coup worked for me as a choreographed sequence, too.
    Exhibit F:
Rey’s parentage remains open enough for future installments to go any direction. That’s a win in my book.
    Exhibit G:
Whatever, indeed. Yoda & Luke had a close relationship. Is force ghost Yoda supposed to show up and tell Kylo he remembers his grandpa?
    Exhibit H:
The rebels have a few vacant spots in the admiralty. But droids can’t fight to save what they love, so I don’t think it would work within the internal logic of the story.
    Exhibit I:
Luke’s exit made sense for the arc. Rey reconnects him to the force, he becomes one with it after a last heroic stand. Way better than prequels.

Addendum 1: Luke tossing light saber over his shoulder was not only for a cheap laugh in E8, it was a physical representation of his separation from the force
Addendum 2: Showing Chewie eating porgs is a fair criticism but the fate of porgs does not distress me.
Addendum 3: "running out of gas" was symbolic for the rebellion. I think it makes a nice bridge to the third installment with a relatively blank slate. Kylo, Rey and Poe have all grown. Franchise does need to figure out what to do with Finn (and Rose).
Addendum 4: The tracker is just on the main First Order ship. I took it to mean that even if the rebel ships spread out, the first order fleet could dispatch its destroyers after them.

    Quoted from Black_Knight:

There is no way the bombs could have achieved escape velocity using gravitational acceleration only.

The ship isn't a planet...the interior gravitational force doesn't apply to objects outside of the ship so no "escape velocity" would be required. The "simulated" 1-G (or whatever the standard is in the Star Wars universe) inside the ship does not act on other objects in space as if it had the full gravity of a planet.

So that simulated force is pulling down on the bombs. Once released (if the doors are open) they fall right out of the ship. Once out they are no longer affected by the ship but they do have a velocity and a direction...which they would then proceed on until they hit something...or come across another strong gravitational field.

    #474 6 years ago

The whole - Finn / Rose thing...I took it that she fell for him but that it wasn't mutual.

TIE Bombers existed in the original trilogy. Again, it's another complaint about something that wasn't new to the series.

    Quoted from TheBrewhouse:

I really liked the movie but wish they had brought back Jar Jar Binks. He is the best Star Wars character.

Re- Watching the prequels with young children who like him makes Jar Jar easier to bear. And I love the fan theory that he’s actually a Sith Lord! That could have been fleshed out for real and been a real boon to the franchise IMO.

you kidding me? This is oscar worthy compared to any dialogue from EP1, 2 and 3, or any of the "attempted" humor from these new movies.

Yes, the stilted dialogue that was all over the prequels was awful. How in the hell can you make Natalie Portman a robot and Samuel L. Jackson boring?!

By then Lucas figured out there was far more money in the merchandise than the actual movie.

And since (if I remember right) he had exclusives on the merchandise (Fox didn't think it would amount to much, DOH!) it was a nice pile of cash.

    A very nice pile.

    Hence, Ewoks.

Why is everyone freaking out about tracking a ship through hyperspace? Forget Rogue One, Vader and Tarkin did it in STAR WARS for gods sake, following the Millenium Falcon when it escaped the Death Star.

everyone in the actual movie, i.e. the characters themselves, were freaking out about it and making it seem like a huge deal... like "wow that's impossible how could they do that!"

There was a beacon installed while it was impounded on the Death Star, they were allow to escape for that reason.

The attached a tracking device to the Falcon, like Obi Wan did to Jango Fett's ship. That's different...the First Order can now track the jump itself. They did work a reference to the project into Rogue One, so while it's something we haven't seen before, they did subtly set it up.

Why so many fans (nerds?) have a problem with the movie: Yes, it's fun... but way too much of it just makes no sense to anyone who's been paying attention. I get Rian Johnson wanted to break conventions and open the franchise up...but if you fly in the face of 40 years of precedent, there's going to be kickback. The low RT user scores aren't because of bots, or angry patriarchal white guys pissed about minority women in positions of power, or that their fan theories didn't pan out. That's the lazy Sony/Ghostbusters defense. It's that Lucasfilm/Disney has made a crap ton of money encouraging fans to delve more deeply into the universe and its conventions, and the Johnson blissfully ignores whichever conventions he wants to tell the story. If you're going to reboot, do a full reboot and be done with it.

Here's a great bit on some of the problems:

With the giant MacGuffin device aboard Snoke's flagship, which causes Finn and Rose to take the torturously long trip to the casino planet, to find a code breaker, who they could bring back to the low speed chase, to sneak aboard Snoke's flagship, to disable the MacGuffin.

Oh god, please don't remind us of the other ways George tried his best to ruin the franchise before the year 2000. It's almost like he was pissed off at all the fans and went out to see how badly he could ruin the SW universe before fans got pissed off and left.

Summary: The Last Jedi is a movie.

Alternate Title: "The Last time I was this disappointed was when I found out there was no Santa Clause". Too disappointed to even write complete sentences ( or correct grammar for that matter) so here is a list of thoughts about this one in no particular order.

    1) Felt like watching a bunch of music videos strung together. scenes went absolutely no where and just "were".
    2) Careful Luke, don't use TOO much force ! Oh well, he died...
    3) Finally get to find out who Rey's parents are ! "Eh just some people, not really important..." But.. " I said its not important, gawd !"
    4) Can't wait to find out the mystery behind Snoke" Oh, he's just a random guy too" Well who is he? "doesn't matter..."
    5) Hey, lets make sure we show those stupid dice that we've never, ever seen before so when Han gets them in the standalone movie the audience will all go " OHHHHHH SO THAT'S WHERE THEY CAME FROMZ..!"
    6) New a-wings ! Bad-freaking-ass ! Oh they don't even do anything and all get wiped out when Kylo bombs the hanger ( see point 8). But hey, at least one of the pilots is a woman, right?? Yay diversity?
    7) Aw F-yea the successor to the B-wing ! Coolest looking "new ship" since can't even remember. Oh, but they suck ass, and move about as fast as a death star. By the way they have turrets, but they don't actually fire lasers. They're more for show. Hey, where are all those cool A-wings while the B-new-wings are getting ANNIHILATED..?? They are too busy staying the F away from them because apparently a B-new-wings worst threat is the B-new-wing flying next to it.
8 ) Wow Kylo Ren's ship (looked great by the way and totally believable to be the interceptors successor) must be magical to fly through a f*cking force field around a capital ship and deliver a bomb strike to its hanger. ( RIP woman of a squadron who didn't really even fire a shot.. )
    9) Speaking of shields I guess forward deflectors are no longer cannon (no pun intended) because 2 shots from a couple of tie fighters completely destroyed the bridge. Killing Admiral Ackbar ( Fuck you Rian Johnson). On a positive note Nien Nunb is still around (much rejoicing).
    10) Leia scene..too easy
    11) First order is the most badass legion in the Galaxy ! Nope, turns out the are just pawns (along with the rebels) in a war game played by rich asshole aliens on a casino planet... Gotta make a political statement in a Star Wars movie I guess. Over 30 goddamn years or war because of casino aliens. Worst plot line since a trade embargo gone bad.
    12) Hey remember the Knights of Ren??? Yea, neither did Rian Johnson.
    13) This is gonna sound REALLY bad. OK Disney we get it, you are making up for lack of diversity in the first 3 films. Every cut in a scene is a never ending cycle of either a man and or a woman on a never ending carousel of races. Like that's cool and all and totally respect it, but goddamn is it detracting. You can do such a thing and not have it feel forced ( pun intended) and have it appear seemless with out pandering to your audience. It was like 160 minutes of Micheal Jackson's Black or White video...
    14) There are too many side characters I don't give a shit about who have way too much back story, and talk too much. See the "Firefly" affect. Rose, ROOOOOSE ( You know the orphan plumber / lower deck security guard who knows WAY too much about tracking through hyperspace...) has more back story then freaking SNOKE did. Remember him? The supreme leader of the New Order who was able to manipulate 2 force sensitive people undetected...He's not important, lets just Darth Maul him...

Honorable mentions: Cool things that fizzled out

    - Rey entering "the dark side" started out pretty cool, but ultimately went no where. ( like most of this movie)
    - Awesome there's Luke's X-wing ! Don't care how cheesy it would of been but Red 5 should have came in and took out a few Gorilla walkers In Battle of Hoth 2 before ultimately being shot down. Luke could then crawl from the wreckage to confront Kylo.
    - He looks its asshole Yoda ! Too bad he only acted that way to test Luke after which his demeanor remained serious throughout the rest of the films.
    - Rey and Kylo being ultimate badasses and fighting "imperial" guards. OK not TOTAL ultimate badasses since they both forgot how to use force push, pull, jump, and crush at a critical moment for some reason. This scene had everything going for it. Soooo much wasted potential. You have 2 confused, young, force sensitive people looking for answers both finding someone to confide in. Light understanding the Dark and Dark understanding the Light and THEN... well, nothing really...

I think the worst part of all is I really don't even care to see episode 9. Like most scenes towards the end of this movie felt like they should have been in the third one. I honestly have no idea where they could possibly go when this movie basically resolved the story arc of the trilogy. There's probably more I'm missing, but I have a head ache now. I wanted to like this movie ( I still do) but goddamn Rian Johnson just Valerian-ed me...

Actually if you look close in the original Star Wars you can see them, takes a sharp eye though.

They were a nod to George Lucas' first major film success, American Graffiti.

That's probably true, But I guarantee they play a HUGE role in the Han Solo movie. They made sure to focus on them like 3 separate times because if they only did it twice, today's ADHD youth wouldn't remember.

I hope you give it another chance becasue as a fellow fan of the franchise I think ur missing out, then again I don't really care.

    Quoted from Hazoff:

No its not, ur a Star Wars geek and theres no world under the glass, come on Jar just admit it nothing wrong with that but to blame the code and the multipliers, shame on you sir. I hope you give it another chance becasue as a fellow fan of the franchise I think ur missing out, then again I don't really care.

You care enough to follow my opinion to every freaking thread...

I have never been a "world under glass" guy. That's new blood collector nonsense. If a game plays well, I'll play it. If it desktop) doesn't, there are plenty more that do. I can't wait until the world under glass fascination dorks burn out with their current flavor of the month activity and go back to their former hobbies.

This clip from a recent interview with Mark Hamill says it all. He even admits that the portrayal of Luke Skywalker does not match that in the original trilogy and says he had to think of Luke in this movie as a different character.

    Quoted from jar155:

Red salty soil? That's going to bug you? I can find some of that literally 5 miles from myself right now. What another strange thing to get bothered by.
    .

ok, you must live in a strange town.

What bothered me was the soldier was seen walking, leaving a red trail. Another soldier tastes it and says "salty". I first thought the guy was bleeding out his leg. Then I thought giant sea creature lived under ice and would pop up after being disturbed and slowly being hacked to death. Turns out it meant absolutely nothing.

as for "captain phatasm", you have a great actress entirely covered up except for 1 eye, at the end. Basically you paid for her name in the credits. Now i see her on a bunch of panels. Her character could have been played by flo the insurance woman it was so underwhelming.

    Quoted from jar155:

The entire casino plan failed. I'm not sure if you noticed that or not. That was the point.

no, the point was to add a scene with crazy aliens that wasn't a bar.

"Leia flying is typical Jedi crap."
no, no jedi ever flew. They could jump really high, but I don't recall any really flying. I guess if you stretch it, you can pull a lightsaber to you using the force, so she was pulling the ship towards her, but in 0 gravity, she went towards the ship since it was bigger.

"The "evil dark hole" is the same sort of thing that Luke walked into on Dagobah in the Empire Strikes Back. That wasn't a new concept for Star Wars either."

not a new concept, but a damn disappointing one. On dagobah, luke confronted his greatest fear/test with fighting vader. In this movie, i haven't figured out what the mirror stands for yet.
