I like shiny, colorful & sparkly things. This might be considered more of a shop job than a restoration but it's on the next-level. Game was in nice shape overall when I got it but was riddled with problems and took a good deal of time and patience. Wasn't sure where to post it.

Electro Mechanical:
-See-saw problem solved by adding weight to rear of see-saw
-Spinner issue solved: old spinner was weighted upside down. Had new white-painted spinner in stock. Stripped paint, wet sanded and buffed. I hate decals.
-Spinner mech tweaked, turbine oiled then actuated with 70 psi from air compressor "WHHEEEEEEEEEE"
-Flippers rebuilt
-Drop assemblies disassembled cleaned (plungers degreased and polished), new sleeves, kicker arms polished
-Slings disassembled cleaned (plungers degreased and polished), new sleeves, kicker arms polished
-Kick out assembly disassembled cleaned re-sleeved (more greased plungers)
-Pops disassembled cleaned (plungers degreased and polished)re-socketed with #555's
-New connectors on PS to solve feature light issues
-New remote battery holder
-Replaced about 8-10 G.I & feature lamp sockets. Quite a few issues here. This game has a TON of lights compared to every other classic stern I have done.
-Recap SB 300
-Secure grounds between lower cabinet and back box electronics
-New line cord with ground

Cosmetic:
-Factory legs stripped, primed, repainted 31" on rear 28.5 on front
-Double-tumbled leg bolts
-PF stripped, screws, lane guides ultrasonic cleaned and tumbled
-PF cleaned and hit with novus 2 in a few places that were needed
-New clear posts for better light transmission. There are a few red ones left where i couldn't get the nuts off threads
-New drop targets
-New pop caps
-new flipper bats
-new beehive was back ordered so I cleaned existing in ultrasonic with simple green, hydrogen peroxide, finish dishwasher tablet and soft scrub. Came out great.
-cleaned, wet sanded and buffed shooter rod & barrel spring
-3 balls fresh out of the tumbler
-New rubbers
-Flattened & polished plastics
-Polish/buff reinstall ramps and sheet metal ball guides. There a lot of metal here. Sanded and buffed rears of ball guides where they back up to GI for more light
reflection
-Reinstall all plastics with tumbled acorn nuts & washers
-Seigecraft led adapters installed
-1smd natural white leds in balance of GI & backboard
-2smd color matching in feature lamps
-LED strips replaced some faulty lamp sockets in G.I under plastics and dark spots where there were no lamp sockets
-Blue LED strips/buffed sheet metal added to tunnel. I ended up having to redo this as the ball was hitting the screw heads on the way through the tunnel.
-Lighted flipper buttons
-Added blue LED strip to trough

Still remaining:
-Remove/repaint coin door
-Wet sand & buff lock bar

Will fold into a coin door and lock bar day once I get going on Seawitch. I might clear the PF and cabinet on SS at some point but right now it looks great and plays fast.

Quoted from HoakyPoaky:

That's one pretty looking pin. You did a great job!
I've never had the chance to play one

Thanks man. It is very stern-quirky but very very cool in my opinion. We played about 15 2-player games without issue on the maiden voyage last night. i have no idea what I am doing. There is a lot of shit going on lol...

Quoted from Isochronic_Frost:

You said you degreased a lot. Did someone try “lubricating” all the plungers and such on this game?

It was indeed well lubricated at some point. That's pretty easy to fix as everyhting gets disassembled and cleaned anyway. There was also some weird red contaminant (for lack of a better term) on tons of the screws and some of the mechanical assemblies. Not rust.

Looks incredible! I like the added illumination in the split second shot. I was considering something similar on mine eventually.
I think I need to add a tumbler to my list of tools.
Great work!

Thanks man. Yes I would highly recommend getting one. These are running pretty much all the time. Blues are in the tumbler queue. Reds are done. Nearly very one of those bolts started as a rusty or oxidized eye sore. I used to put new bolts on all the games but as I change legs out I am replacing the new bolts with the tumbled bolts then will be throwing the new ones in the tumbler too. Same thing with the balls. Unless you are buying those high end ones, new balls are terrible. The high end ones are likely just tumbled anyway. In they go...

Looks fantastic! Split Second is my wife's favorite pin out of our entire collection. This thread may inspire me to really clean it up. Were your natural 1 SMDs used for GI from Comet? Frosted?

haha my gal gave me that face that little meme girl makes when she saw it for the first time. a big dingy looking circus freak clown show. Should have seen her last night when we went down to the game room and she fired it up. AWESOME! Then we started to play and I could tell she was into it. Getting super vocal with all the top tier expletives and clutching and scratching her head as the ball made its way down the drain. I highly recommend jacking it up to that 6.6 neighborhood to get that ball moving too.

BTW spot on with the comets.

Very nice clean up.
What is the shiny stuff on your shooter rails. Looks interesting.

Quoted from Agent_Hero:

Gameplay question: how do you keep the ball from getting stuck at the locked ball kick out on the upper playfield? I saw it get stuck a few times in the PAPA gameplay videos.

Excellent question. I started watching that video. After about 7 cups of coffee and a fistful of amphetamines I was able to finish it. Two things I figured out up there:
1. make sure the metal ball guide is properly oriented. When you look at it your mind immediately wants to put it in upside down.
2. use as small a rubber you can get to fit over the plastic star post at the end of the ball guide. A little soap helped get it to go on without much effort.
