I think the combination of cost, SMD multilayer boards, lack of good documentation, and proprietary code that to my knowledge can't be replaced yet on these boards are what is keeping some repairs from being done.

I am sure we will gain more experience in the coming years and find some workarounds. Otherwise we will have rooms full of huge paperweights in 10-15 years.

Oddly enough, I dont see a broken connection on the board that failed. Kind of strange but obviously something was up with it since it wasnt getting the power it needed..

Apparently the spike boards (from what I have read in other threads) may be 8 layers or so; lots of room for things to break where it may not be visible... really great for if you were say putting these in an environment where they vibrated around alot as part of their expected use...
