That's like making the kids pick which parent they want to live with after the divorce.
Honestly I have to pick LOTR because It feels less repetitive and the game software is just so well done and integrated with the movies. Spider-man doesn't leave me with a feeling of exhaustion of actually taking a walking quest through middle earth though.. so.. if you want a challenge without the extra effort SM may be the best
cant go wrong with either.
Both are outstanding games! Really, this one is really a personal taste question, you should play both and make a decision for yourself. There is no right or wrong decision purely based on just looking and playing the machines... only you know which one you personally will like IMO.
That being said, I owned LOTR LE and SM at the same time, and kept LOTR and sold SM after about a year. After SM was gone a while, I missed it, and just ended up getting another one. Both are super fun games.
So as you can tell, LOTR won out for me when I had to decide which one to move.
On a side note: I know more collectors with LOTR than SM, and it seemed like I could play LOTR in more places than SM.. so SM seems rarer to find.

I vote apples. Oranges are so much more work to peel.
LOTR - I kick myself for selling mine a few years ago. Better DMD dots - Shots are more satisfying - Both are similar with fan layout but that's where it ends. packed full with things to shoot for. Tons of strategy involved. One of Sterns best pins ever and hard to top. Spiderman is kick ass though and a close 2nd.
