I went with a optical trigger on my SPIKE machines. You can pull 12v off one of the connectors on the power board for SPIKE-2 pins. Original SPIKE, it is safest to pull 48v and convert down using a dc-dc converter.
Since much of the lighting connections are on PCBs, it is more difficult to interface, especially with RGB inserts.
