Hello Pinball fan, Can you help me with a Pinbot speak problem.
My Pinbot has almost no speak. for example he do not say I can see you.
Sometimes I get some speak but thats unintelligible. Tilt give some speak.
and he talks something when de ball go in to the eyes.
Also no speak in the attrack mode.

I tryed a lot and changed a lot components but the problem stays.
All wires and connectors are checked.

Sound is oké

Is there someone who can help me. I become a little bid desperate?

Thanks

Have you looked at the Pinwiki?
http://www.pinwiki.com/wiki/index.php?title=Williams_System_9_-_11#Sound_problems

"4.10.1.2 Missing Sound or Speech Calls

To start a sound test, simply press the SW2 momentary switch at the bottom of the CPU board located between connections 1J16 and 1J17. Once SW2 is pressed, the CPU will cycle through all of the sound / speech calls continuously. Each System 9 game has a chart located in the manual, which lists the speech and sound calls made during test. The benefit of the chart in the manual is that it lists the ROM where a particular call originates. If a particular sound / speech call is not heard, the associated ROM listed for that call may be bad.

Another result of speech calls missing is possibly a bad U2 or U3 on the speech board. Both of these chips are 1458 op-amps. "

What version of the ROM's do you have installed in your machine? Are they from the L-5 set that is hosted on all the download sites? If so you may have the corrupt U22 image. I had the same issue with mine where most of the speech is just gone except for tilt and partial optical link. There is an extra image for the U22 ROM on the IPDB for the Pinbot. If you get that and replace U22 then your speech may come back too.

Did you have a leaking battery pack? Look for battery corrosion on the board...had the same issue, replaced roms too but no joy. I found that corrosion had eating away a trace near the roms.

Robert I will try thanks for your comment.

I also discovered a rare problem.
One of the little pins of the ribbon connector on the CPU board was twisted.
Because of that sound was disapear.
Now sound is back again but still a lot of speech is disappear
I wil try to change the U22 rom for an other. Strange because the Roms I have are brand new.
kvan99 There is no trace off leaking battery pack.
The roms are from the L-5 set I will look at IPDB thanks

Where did you get the set of L-5 ROM's from and what images were they made from? So far every ZIP file I have seen with the L-5 images seems to have the same corrupt (bad) image for U22. The first part of that ROM image is zero'd out. On the IPDB page here:

http://ipdb.org/machine.cgi?gid=1796

Someone posted a separate ZIP file for U22 which does contain a good image for that ROM. So, if you burn that and swap out U22 then you may fix it. I had the same issue and was looking for other problems because I assumed that L-5 image set was good when in fact it wasn't. From searches the forum I see references to others that ran into problems as well.

Many Thanks Robotworkshop.

At the end it seems that U22 courses the speech problems.

I replaced many components and spend many hours in this case, all for something I did not expect.
But the problem is solved thanks to you and the pinside forum
