Hi there,

I have recently purchased a 1977 Playmatic Speakeasy pinball machine which will not start.

All score reels and credit go to zero when the button is pressed, the score mech will keep running and not allow the game to start. If you manually engage (Y) balls relay, the game will start, and we can play a 1-4 player game. Once completed and trying to play the next game, all scores will reset to zero but score mech will run and won’t start the game.

When it is in this state, the play field is not live and it will not release the ball until the relay is manually operated. I have tried cleaning the balls relay and resetting it but this has not helped, there is no power at the coil on this relay, I have tried tracing it back to no avail.

Any ideas on where to go next would be appreciated, I have the wiring diagram but it’s in Spanish and not much help!

If photos or videos are needed I will be more than happy to upload.

Thanks in advance.

First thing is to fine the Motor on the schematic to see what RE’s (Relay) starts it.
It should look like this and the Spanish word for motor is motoro, I think.
One of these SW is staying closed either cos of adjustment of the coil (relay) is not de energising.
What format is your Schematic in, Email able?

Score reels or Bonus Unit not reading at "zero" position.

Thousands of posts here and on RGP regarding this symptom. Does not matter if Bally, Williams, Gottlieb, Chicago Coin or Playmatic.

There are switches on the score reel units that come out of adjustment. First you tighten the screws holding the switch stacks (screw closest to the contact points first) then adjust the switches for proper operation.

Bonus unit zero is usually a gummed up unit that really does not fully retreat to the home position. More tan likely, the problem is with the score reel assemblies.

You may have checked this already, but sometimes one or more of the coin switches are stuck together causing the motor to keep going...

Thanks for the replying, yes I've checked the coin door switches, they are fine. I'm thinking it might be a score reel. They all reset. But I noticed one on player 1 is sticking slightly. Will look into it.

Unfortunately I can't email it as it's a paper copy I'll try taking some photos later. Yes I am in Perth. Thanks again for all responding. Hopefully I can fix it before I loose my mind over it.

I've got a Playmatic Speakeasy that I set up recently to work on. It powers up, starts a game, scores most targets, but there is one chime coil that gets locked on and the reel in the back box starts humming away since that too gets locked on.

Also, my flippers don't move. Hmmm..... I have no schematics or anything for this machine, but I'm assuming the fuse on the bottom side of the playfield is for the flippers.... and it tests good.

If anyone has a pdf of the schematics for the Playmatic Speakeasy that would be great, even though it's probably in Spanish.

Also looking for the top arch plastic as mine is badly melted and broken.
