I've seen videos on the internet and TNT amusements has lane guides. Joes repairs and sales has rubber. Mine has white lanes guides and i think it is necessary to protect the bulbs there. Any thoughts?

both. you definitely need rubber on the posts for when the ball hits them, whether it is one on the two posts or individual doesn't matter much. photos on ipdb show the lane guides as well.

I didn't think to look on ipdb. Thanks. I meant to say the kit i got gave me two 1-1/2" rings for it instead of four 5/16" rings. I want to use the 5/16 and the lane guide

That's an interesting fix. Mine does not have lane guides, just rubbers (stretched) and the bulbs so far are fine.

I use to have problems with bulbs shattering behind the rubber on my Strato-Flite, I just slipped these over the bulbs. Problem solved and you still would have the action from the rubber.

I'm a pinball idiot. Those sleeves are used on the bulbs below the flippers.
Darn it sucks getting old and have your brain turn to mush.
Thank you.
