Picked up a project space station the other day. After I finish cleaning up the PF I'm going to start trying to assemble it back together. I know I have a new freeplay40 ramp for it but the mini playfeild is destroyed. Are these available or how hard are they to find? Other than that I think I'll have a solid players game once I get it all back together. I also have some wires that I think are for the displays but this game came with a new rottendog display. Hopefully this weekend I can make some progress

Yes I have it and it's in...one piece. It's covered in a Bed liner sort of material that ought work for now but I'd like to replace it if possible.

#1486 7 years ago

I thought about trying to make something similar to the mini pf in the pinbot series games but I'm not sure if it will work or not. Figured I'd try to find a replacement first

#1489 7 years ago

Well I got the game to boot up and play (things just kinda put together to see what all it needs)!!!!

The only issues I have are flippers but they are taken apart, and the pop bumpers do not work at all. There are wires cut off of them for some reason. Could someone take a picture of their pop bumper wiring for me?

Found a couple more cut wires with no clue where they go. They are orange in color. So I have no clue where they go and the missing wires off the pop bumpers. Any help would be much appreciated

Also maybe all this cut wires are why my pop bumpers are not working?

#1506 7 years ago

Thank you for the picture. I'm going to have to dig deep I think to figure out what they have going on in there. I'll
Probably end up ordering a repro ow era manual just to have on hand.

It looks like the blues are one of the power wires to the coils and the Orange are for the switches?

#1508 7 years ago

I was looking at the pop bumpers on taxi, pinbot, and rollergames and they are all different. I think I'm going to have to just do some testing and hope to figure it out.

I guess this is what happens when you get into a project that someone else started

#1513 7 years ago

Got the pop bumpers working like they should!! After figuring out the mess of stuff they had going on, I was able to get everything straightened out and working!!

Now I just have to figure out why my white/violet gi iasnt working which shouldn't be a big deal and I'm ready to either tear down for clear coat on the pf or just Mylar and play it.

1 week later
#1567 7 years ago

Got the pf tore down about 80%, pushed inserts out, and started touch ups (that are far from perfect) to get it cleared. It actually went pretty good. My dad had surgery so he's out of work for a few so it will be a nice little project for him to work on.

My dad did some cleaning on the pf and he also has the inserts about ready to set. Hopefully we can start clearing in the next couple weeks

IMG_5713 (resized).JPGIMG_5713 (resized).JPG

#1579 7 years ago

I was probably not going to do the whites just because I'm lazy and want to get it done and play it. Clear will stick just fine. Most likely we will use PPG DC3000 clear, like I used on my black knight PF. It's definitely not going to be a show piece, just a nice players game.

#1600 7 years ago

Check your fuse holders. That's where the issue with my left side GI was

#1601 7 years ago

Spraying the white here in a few minutes. It looks so hack. Kinda embarrassing really considering we have a full fledge body shop and paint booth as our family business. Instead we are just doing it in the workshop at home.

IMG_5818 (resized).JPGIMG_5818 (resized).JPG

#1602 7 years ago

This is way more work than I wanted to put into this game

IMG_5819 (resized).JPGIMG_5819 (resized).JPG

#1603 7 years ago

Too bright? Basically just grabbed a white off the shelf and figured it would have been good. Now it's time to do the small tedious touch ups and want for my dad to set the inserts.

IMG_5821 (resized).JPGIMG_5821 (resized).JPG

#1605 7 years ago

Since I had to paint over the "G" marks where the green bulbs went, I decided instead of rewriting the g I would change it up a little. Thoughts on this?

Keep in mind this is waaaay more work than I wanted to put into this game. It's not going to perfect by any means but it should be a good player. I might even get into some cabinet work.

IMG_5822 (resized).JPGIMG_5822 (resized).JPG

#1612 7 years ago
Quoted from Chosen_S:

Curious... the lamp sockets? Are you replacing them or are you putting bulbs in them before you spray?... looks like the sockets have paint in them, this will be pretty difficult to clean out, it can be done with a dremel and stone attachment if you absolutely have to

I was very hesitant at first but after reading on vids PF restoration guide it says just put old bulbs in the sockets before you spray. It looks like just the top edge has a paint on them which isn't going to be a big deal to clean out. I'm most likely going to Drexel them out anyways because a few of them had a little corrosion anyways.

#1615 7 years ago
Quoted from MustangPaul:

Which fuses are for the left and right gi?

On my game it was the one closest to the outside of the box. I didn't have left side gi at all, and while I was checking fuses i wiggles the connectors to the fuse and the lights came on

So who was all bidding on the prototype mini pf on eBay??

3 weeks later
#1664 6 years ago

For the first coat of clear on the PF. I think it's going to come out nice after we block sand, decals, and reclear

Playfeild is cleared with the inset decals on. I'm not really happy with the quality of the decals because the lettering is too transparent but that's part of the learning curve. There is a slight edge on the inserts as well from the difference of the decals but 3 solid coats of extremely good quality clear will be just fine. This is already more than I wanted to do in the first place.

I'm going to let it sit over the weekend and see if i need to cut it down and spray it again or not. Then the fun part of reassembling everything.

I can cut and polish the clear we used in an hour if I really wanted. Basically sitting over the weekend will just show any shrinkage if there is any.

Quoted from twenty6point2:

Went back through your posts to catch up on your build. Looking great! What's the story on your upper playfield? I saw it was originally covered in a textured bed-liner like material, and you were trying to source a replacement. Still black, but in these latest pics it looks smooth.

Well... I got a little surprise form my dad for my bday. It looks to be the prototype upper playfeild that was on eBay a while back. It would have been awesome if it was the blue but I'm not going to be picky by no means. I'll take what's available. I'm hoping to have everything about 80% finished by the end of the month. I placed an order for clear blue pop bumper housings and I think I'm going to do white skirts and keep the red caps.

A little more progress. It would be nice to find a set of NOS plastics. Also I think I’m missing a few gates for the upper play field. Can anyone confirm that there are gates up top?

Thanks for the kind words @scarybeard!! We I originally got the game it was a basket case but everything seemed to be there. We were able to get everything together and let our daily work instinct kick in (we own a body shop.) color matching and clear coating is easily accessible and like second nature to us to all in or nothing. I’m pretty pleased on how it’s all turning out and my dad has done an amazing job with his eye for small details. With out the help of my dad I’m not sure I would have been able to get this game where it is. Last night we were able to geverythjbg on besides the flippers and start a game. There were no switch errors or hang ups. I’m going to work on flippers maybe tonight and finish the leds underneath.

Thoughts on custom side cabinet art? Yes or no?

I mentioned mirror blades but haven't looked into them yet. I put them on my bride and it made a huge difference.

The one in the picture with my dad is Riley, her 3rd birthday was yesterday!! And the one at the top of the page is Tessa. She's just a pup, 10? Months. Both are amazing shop dogs and a pain in the ass.

I also agree with wpc upgrade. One of the best upgrades there are for sys11 games

#2103 6 years ago
Quoted from KJL:

I have not seen a big difference with system 11. On your Space Station, can you hit the right ramp with the right flipper with this upgrade?

No but then again I have a hard time hitting the right ramp in general

#2123 6 years ago
Quoted from scarybeard:

Here’s a rough sketch of what i’d Have in mind....
In order to make the 90 degree wall on the back, i’d Need to cut that wall piece flat, and key it to the flat playfield so it can be seated and glued in place. The back wall would need to be slightly curved which I’m not thrilled about. I either need to heat the plastic and form it in that shape, or secure it cold and allow there to be tension on the form.
Likewise the ‘roof’ of the back piece would need to be keyed and glued in place. It’s possible I could include added support when I do the final design.
The ‘front’ wall is a problem. That sharp curve around the drain would require I heat and bend the plastic, which could yield inconsistent results. I’d be more comfortable replacing that front wall with a chrome wire form. Thoughts?

That would work perfect. And a wire up front would be the way to go.

I’d defiantly be in for one if they are going to be produced!

Also, my board no’s trashed. It’s time to replace it. Aftermarket or try to find a repaired original?

Recieved and installed the space station from @freakandgeek. The quality and detail is top notch. I’m not too sure about the silver yet but other than that it looks good. It’s defiantly an upgrade form the old one. Here is some before and after pics
