Been working on a full topside restore with hardtop, all new plastics, rubbers and LEDs and it’s ALMOST done. Check out the pics! I have one last major issue that I need to figure out and haven’t been able to find any info on this particular issue either here or at pinwiki.
The machine starts up with normal displays, and within a few seconds the displays all revert to odd numbers only. Obviously this affects scoring, switch testing, and seeing the number of credits. I feel like I’m so close to having this thing done, but this problem is stumping me. I have reseated all connectors multiple times and don’t see anything out of the ordinary on the board. Displays are all new Pinscore displays. Any direction would be helpful!0FD7952D-CF65-4B75-9A7F-0B24373E219E (resized).jpeg0FD7952D-CF65-4B75-9A7F-0B24373E219E (resized).jpegB22CDCFA-F99F-44C6-A0B4-B90E6E1A22E6 (resized).jpegB22CDCFA-F99F-44C6-A0B4-B90E6E1A22E6 (resized).jpeg9B77F985-AD38-445A-BF35-830293CC79B3 (resized).jpeg9B77F985-AD38-445A-BF35-830293CC79B3 (resized).jpeg4B0EBEA9-E739-4974-8384-1DB78CDD0C5A (resized).jpeg4B0EBEA9-E739-4974-8384-1DB78CDD0C5A (resized).jpeg0006E435-D87B-4273-B810-09538C2C6489 (resized).jpeg0006E435-D87B-4273-B810-09538C2C6489 (resized).jpegB54BF747-1120-4855-810B-B290A8D404ED (resized).jpegB54BF747-1120-4855-810B-B290A8D404ED (resized).jpegAA22396A-82BD-47AB-BF68-534CBC6331FD (resized).jpegAA22396A-82BD-47AB-BF68-534CBC6331FD (resized).jpeg

Quoted from MisterScappy:

Is there any sign of alkaline damage to the board in the lower left side above 1J1, 1J2, or 1J3?

I don’t *see* any battery damage on the board. The batteries are still mounted to the board, but…

Quoted from Xenon75:

yep sounds like something on the CPU board sending bad data to the display boards. on a side note .... all of that work and you couldn't spend the extra few bucks on new playfield posts, or at least run them through the dishwasher?

I cleaned them with microfiber and napththa, but once whatever that white stuff is was wet, it was clear. So I couldn’t see if it was there or not. I’ll clean them again for sure.

Here’s a link to a video of the display during startup and during a ball:

Quoted from Xenon75:

So it looks correct for a couple refreshes and then goes off the rails. Easy stuff first, how are the connectors to/from the mpu to the master display board?
Did you have this issue with the previous display board before changing to the new one?

The connector ribbons look brand new; I’ve reseated them several times. I could steal a ribbon out of a known good machine and try that; I bought the machine with the pinscore displays already installed, so I don’t have an answer for that question, and the original displays didn’t come with the machine…
