Hey Super are you in on the Shuttle stainless steel speaker panel?

#104 9 years ago

Im thinking about it. How does it get installed ? I assume there are holes for the speakers ? It does look cool though.

#105 9 years ago

Probably double sided tape to stick on the stainless lift bar receiver and then it would just rest on the wood on the bottom. There's only one speaker remember, where the NASA is. How long you had your game.

#106 9 years ago

when i get it i will make a grill to put in front of the speaker, remove the black carpet first loll.

and make a lighting kit behind the grill, like the new stern. and maybe something behind the Williams logo.

I knew you'd come up with something for us.

some progress on the coin door parts.
some parts are painted others buffed.

the main thing here is to make it look clean.

WOW it sure does, they look brand new. Have you found new "25 cent" plastics yet? Or don't you need them.

#110 9 years ago

i used to have brand new ones somewhere, gonna have to search.

I'm also gonna try to do something different, like i did with the nasa logo in the middle.

#112 9 years ago

Wow this game is going to look absolutely beautiful

#113 9 years ago

oh man, wish me luck, i'm gonna try the white stencil tomorrow.

Agreed, lol

#116 9 years ago

so, i decided to install the second stencil today on both side of the backbox, WHAT A PIECE OF CRAP!

absolutely nothing fit from factory (if we can call it that, looks more like one of my son's project), no overlap, nothing to guide you.

after 6 hours it looks like how it should be. re-did the line around the stencil (over the red), now it fit.

i'm gonna try to paint this tomorrow or saturday... looks like im gonna have a long weekend, i still have the cabinet to do.

oh and did i said.. STAY AWAY FROM CLASSIC ARCADE his stencil for space shuttle are shit!

#117 9 years ago

Well your doin the best ya can and it looks good. I hope your gonna send him a "nice" email and "thank" him for his "great" stencils.

#118 9 years ago

spend the weekend doing the second stencil on the cabinet and backbox.

to give an idea, i had to cut the stencil in 19 pieces to make it fit. 6 hours to install, both side and front (i was alone).
the end result is pretty good, a few touch up here and there and it will be perfect (well, to my liking).
i went with a dark red and i love it, it makes the white pop out even more.
back box is home, so i can finalise the touch up tonight if i can or tomorrow night.

i'm hoping to have the first coat of clear wednesday, then some light sanding and a second coat of clear, maybe the last one if it's nice and flat, if not, another coat.

here's the pics.

man, i can't wait to finish painting/clearing the cab/bb and switch to something else on the machine.

with the new chrome legs/polished door frame and door on the cab it's gonna look incredible, that's the part i like, re assembling everything with new parts.

#121 9 years ago

Have ya thought about putting a lit start button on it?

#122 9 years ago

i have something here, chrome housing with a blue lit up button.

i just need to figure out how i'm gonna fit it, because the hole for the start button on those williams are very small.

#123 9 years ago

That cabinet looks very nice! Looking forward to watching this restore..

You could always drill it out.

first two coat of clear done, one tacking coat and a good second coat.
only the first coat and it looks great in person.

i will do a light sanding and another 2 coats. then i will start to level everything.
tomorrow night or friday and after that 2 other coats, could be the last 2.

Are you using the flouresent light trick used by playfield clearers to check for smoothness of their clear coats? Or your not going to buff it out.

nope, no fluo but it will be smooth.
if my last coat is nice and smooth i won't buff it out, if there is dust i will sand 1200 and buff it out.

knowing me, it's gotta be smooth, pretty sure i will buff it out.

yes it's auto clear (fusion).
i'm not done yet, i'll make it flat monday (removing the bumps (edge) from the two colours) and at least 2 other coats and then if it looks good and no dust, i'll leave it like that, if so, 1200/2000 grid and buffing.

next weekend or before, it should be home.

the inside part of the door is done.
changed the lamps sockets for new ones.
tie wrap everything nice and clean.
new screws (almost everyone).

i will probably add another lamps socket in the middle, a new coil (i think i got one somewhere)
maybe change the slam tilt and install a new lock.
make a sticker for the 3 switches.

it's not perfect but it's nice and clean.

next, i'll start to work on the white panel on the inside cabinet with the bell and tilt assembly.

so what i've done today,

been working on the belt and tilt panel/assembly.
removed everything, re painted the wood panel white.

and yes call me crazy!
buffed the inside part of the bell, wasn't easy... lollll
bracket and tilt parts
hmmmm shinny.

need to clean the wire harness, buff the volume bracket, it should be back together this week.

and tomorrow it's back to the cabinet and backbox, sanding and clearing.

Dang you really know your stuff when you buff....see what I did there. You can never have to much shine.

#149 9 years ago
Quoted from MustangPaul:

bofff.... i was wondering should i keep that wood board white like the original or maybe black or blue?

blue or black will make all that shinny buffing parts pop out.

#150 9 years ago

It's a custom job so I say a "shiney" blue.
