I'm putting my space shuttle back together after a full shop job. This machine has been hacked over many times in the past so I don't trust anything on it as original. I have some questions:

First, this post with the yellow bumper is way too short. Is it supposed to be? Or should it have a washer or two underneath? It's about 3/16" shorter than other posts so the plastic has to bend way down to meet it.

Next, these posts that hold up the ramp. They had black coarse thread (sheet metal) screws in them. Is that correct or should they be tapped for #6-32 machine screws?

Now the upper end of the left inlane guide, they had a metal bell type standoff with a piece of rubber over it. I imagine this is not correct.

Ok to answer your questions, the post, on mine at least, is like yours, about 2 tenths shorter so a couple washers and done. I installed the tapered bumper in that spot. You should have a machined screw at the end of the ramp, not a sheet metal screw, but if it stays tight, I guess it's ok, or you can tap your post. Lastly, your outline guide should just have the metal tubing and not the bumper. I can understand why someone put it there, but it's not "correct". You can see a great shot of it on Ed Cheung's website. Hope this helps with some of your questions.

I'm going through a similar process. I have a question about the center drop target. Not sure if it's just a weak spring. But it seems as if my center drop is always triggering the switch (#20) whether it's up or down.

Do i need a stronger spring attached to my drop target?
Is there supposed to be a spring on the plunger?

No rubber, just a skinny metal standoff tube.

These should be machine threaded for sure.

Here are the teardown pics for the whole game:

THANKS! - Just what I needed
Turns out my drop target switch was resting on the lifter, when it should have been on the drop target itself. Problem solved.

Thanks guys. I actually just removed the rubber from that bell standoff and reused the standoff, it actually works better because of the oversized hole in the hardtop, otherwise the guide would bend down or you'd have to shim it up somehow. (See photo, there's a superfluous hole incorrectly machined in the hardtop just below.) The ball hits the lane guide now as it should.

I will run a tap through those ramp standoffs for a proper machine screw instead of jamming those sheet metal screws in them.
