I’m replacing the original connectors on the MPU with the molex/trifurcon connectors, and I noticed J19 is a 9 pin header, but is split with a two and seven slot connector originally. Is there a reason I can’t upgrade this to a solid 9 slot molex connector housing, instead of a 2 and a 7?

Quoted from RCA1:

I don't think it was cut. I think the person who replaced it had a 2 and a 7 pin on hand, but no nines.

Yes, it wasn’t cut. It was a two and seven. Thanks!

For those that have adapted to led's, what did you use for the moon to change colors in the backglass, and how did you get the flaming booster jet effects in the backglass as well? Getting ready to place a Comet order and I've seen how nice these changes look. Thanks!

Quoted from Apinjunkie:

Comet makes rgb color changer bulbs. Put two of those behind the moon and you're in business.

I asked Comet about the those and received this, "RGBs won't sync up together so if you have multiple behind the moon you'll be getting a multicolored moon effect instead of the moon changing color entirely".

Perhaps since it's only two bulbs it won't matter that much. Thanks for the reply!

Well, while changing to Comet LED’s throughout, I rotated the leaning playfield from bottom to top for ease of access, and this part fell to the floor. I have no idea where it belongs, or if it’s broke off from a larger piece. I couldn’t tell if it fell from the topside, or underneath the playfield as well. Anyone recognize where it goes? Incandescent is for size reference. Ugh, thanks!

Quoted from goingincirclez:

It's part of a pop bumper yoke, which attaches to the coil plunger. The other half is either still attached (for now), or loose somewhere. Compare to the other pops and you'll figure it out in no time. The Good news is, you can get replacements and install without disassembling the entire thing. And it probably didn't break because you flipped the pf... You just shook it loose pre-emptively

Is this the part you’re describing? If so, all three are intact and appear to be made of something other than metal. Thanks for the reply though!!

Quoted from Bax1:

yup that's a pop yolk for sure.

Aha! Upon further inspection, it does appear to be a plate behind the composite yoke. Thanks!

Yep..thanks!

Lol come to think of it, even a broken yoke wouldn't fall out unless the nuts went loose / missing too... So if your nuts are all tight (giggity) then maybe that was an old part that finally shook loose (maybe when that one mismatched coil was replaced)... Which would be pretty impressive if it had been there all that time!

You are spot on! Look what else I found! Thanks for the education!

For anyone that has replaced the shuttle, what did you use to replace the original rivets for the switch and wireform? I can see that using small bolts to replace the rivets for the switch may be an acceptable answer, but I’m noticing the wireform has extremely small brass rivets with a hole in the middle, that are inserted into the holes, and the wireform rotates within those holes. Thanks!

Proof you should always take pics. I’m replacing the incandescents with LED’s under the 15 white inserts that spell Space Shuttle. Apparently there was, or at least now is, a broken wire from the left row of sockets, and I can’t tell where it goes. Can anyone take a closeup pic and show me where it solders to, please? Thanks!

Quoted from rottenrobert1313:

It's soldered to the yellow wire next to it on the lug of the middle row of lights. My phone battery is about dead so it won't let me take a picture and I don't have a charger handy, but I did look right at the wire in question. I can take a pick tomorrow

Thanks rottenrobert1313 for taking the time to verify! I realize the lay of the wire is kind of telling me where it went, but I just wanted to be sure. Thanks again.

Looking on page 20 of the manual. Lamp Location Diagram. Where on the pf is lamp 39 and 40? IJ6-9 row of the matrix is locked on and trying to check for shorts.
