Quoted from andre060:

Finished the white layer today! I also did some tests of the Rust-Oleum Matte Clear. It looks really good and does a great job at cutting the sheen down. I'll let this fully dry and re-evaluate then, but will most likely go over the entire cabinet with the matte clear.

Are those colors not in the pattern of the Russian flag? There aren't many pins more 'Merican than Space Shuttle. Scandalous.

Seems like there's at least three that come up with a quick google search: Classicarcades, MayPrinting.com, and TwistedPins. .

Anyone have luck getting stencils from mayprinting? I don't even see a place to order on their website and haven't heard anything back on my email inquiry.

Well, I just got an answer to my own question in the form of an email from Jim at mayprinting Seems Williams copyright stuff has shut him down. Anyone have experience with the stencils from twisted pins before I order from Jeff at Classic arcades?

I'm heading home with a nice project SS, so I guess I'm in the club again. Can't wait to get her set up and start working on her.

I gotta say, I'm really stoked about this game. Other than needing a couple of switches adjusted and it having one too many balls in it, this project space shuttle that came home with me today is working flawlessly. Of course it's pretty dirty but I'm really happy with how it worked out

I gave the game some TLC today, fixed the switches and gave it a quick tear down, cleaning and wax, and dropped in some LEDs and new balls. It's playing fast and fun. The playfield has some wear above the rollovers and around the pops but none to speak of in the center of the playfield. I think I'm going to leave it as it is, not drop a ton of money into a restoration and just play the heck out of it. For the money, this is one of the best pins I've played.

A few of my speech sounds have been sounding "garbled" and more "metallic" than normal in the past couple of days. Has anyone had a similar issue and/or could steer me toward troubleshooting it? I know roms can go bad and solder joints can be fussy but was hoping to start problem solving at something a little simpler if possible.

Quoted from MustangPaul:

How do the speakers look? Are they original?

Good question. I'll have to take a look when I get home. I should've mentioned that the problem only is with a few of the speech sounds. The music/sound effects sound normal.

Quoted from ExitWound:

I went out to Lowes today and turns out these are not long enough. While they work perfectly for leg bolts, they are not long enough to reach through the bottom of the backbox into the threads on the cabinet. Looks like I need some that are well over 3" long to reach through.
Anyone want to measure how long theirs is?

Just get some that are 3 3/4 or 4 inches and threaded all the way up. Lowes has them in the specialty bolt cabinets at my local store

Quoted from ExitWound:

Overall, not terrible for the reduced price. Haven't opened it up yet to see what's in the cabinet but from what I can see, no rats, mice, or water damage. Looks rather clean.

After you get her up and running again, you're gonna wet your pants the first time that bell rings for an extra ball!

It is an awesomely fun game, especially for the price. My shuttle is an original and has been well loved. The only upgrading I've done is to add some LEDs to the inserts, clean it and replace the rubber. I think it's cool that so many folks around here want to really bling their games out, but I also think it's okay to leave them as players games as well.
