Just had the call, joining the club ! .............. lift off is 0900 hours tomorrow !

#2011 5 years ago
Quoted from SkyKing2301:

Godspeed ... hope the launch doesn't get scrubbed!

Lift off !

Ok - first question for System 9 gurus ......... this is humming really LOUD in attract mode and in game. The hum increases / decreases with the lights - very much like the classic Data East hum issue.

I'm guessing grounding is a starting point.

Any advice on areas to focus on to get rid of this. I can't live with it !

Quoted from ChrisPINk25:

ive I had quite a bit of hum too. Changing all the caps helped a lot.

Thanks.

I have just really tightened up the screws on the boards and replaced a few missing ones. Result !! The noise is greatly reduced. I think it was the MPU board screws that made the difference. It's still there a bit but I can happily live with it sat in attract mode now

OK - been tinkering/testing the new arrival so next question ...

When should the multiball insert light ? I have yet to see it light in game though multiball is working fine. It lights in attract mode and test .

#2017 5 years ago
Quoted from Marvin:

should light when there is one or 2 balls locked and the drop target it down. It tells you to shoot the ramp to start MB.

Thanks. That is what I assumed.

I had a couple more games and it did light during one game, but not in another. So something not right ...I'll have a look at connections etc tomorrow. And yet it lights fine during attract mode.

Quoted from grantopia:

Are the switches in the saucer recognizing the ball is in them? If not, the game may not know they are in there when you drop the center target. I'd check and see that they register in test consistently with a ball in there.

They seem to yes . But good point, I'll double check.

Quoted from Marvin:

check for loose connections also. does MB start correctly?

Yes

Turned out to be the Drop Target switch - was registering sporadically. If that doesn't register then Multiball insert won't light. I took it off and blasted some contact cleaner in , seems to be behaving now.

Thanks guys.

It's all playing correctly now so I can crack on with setting some high scores

Green light in the cockpit when Multiball Ready ! A nice little nod to Condition Green on Space Station

Was there ever a version of Space Shuttle that the shuttle actually moved up and down? I swear I played one where it did unless it was another game.

Are you thinking of Apollo 13 ? Moving rocket ....

YAY, got my board back from Ed Cheung today and now my game works perfectly! I had no idea how loud this pin could be. I have owned this pin for a while, but with no others to compare to, I didn't think my sound was that far off! I always had to keep the volume knob turned way up to hear properly, figured that was normal. In turn, I always had a hum from the speakers. I thought it was due to screws out/grounding, etc. Apparently it's like any other speaker that may hum when turned all the way up! Now with the mother board repaired, I had to turn the volume way down, now game sounds just as loud as my other pins, and I barely hear a hum now! Perfect!!!!!

I have just left the club but the Shuttle I had was super loud ....I almost had the volume turned to minimum and that was perfectly fine , I don't think I even put it on max just to see .... was scared of blowing a speaker !

Mine had horrendous hum and weird noises going on when I got it ..replaced some screws in the backboard and *really* tightened all screws hard . All hum and interference virtually eliminated !
