Quoted from SMP14:

I've joined the club a few weeks ago, lots of content here to read. Got a refurbished 100% working system 9 mpu at Pinfest, really excited to get this game going

Welcome to the club!!!! Lots of great help here for all your needs. That playfield looks great by the way! Wonder if your cat will mind you putting a lid on his funhouse!

About to start restoring My Space Shuttle. Super worn playfield. Hard Top?
I can't find any playfields available for Space Shuttle.

I have a populated playfield with new hardtop and I think it looks great. I bought a new black plastic 2-ramp combo piece from Starship Fantasy. I am hunting for a decent cabinet or a complete game with worn playfield.

lets see the field, to determine if you should trash a nice one or use it as is. Lots of people say super worn then it turns out there are 2 worn spots.

That one actually is in pretty bad shape. Oddly, the USA advances X text is not that bad. That's one of the areas that gets beat up fast. The wear in the close up of the pops wouldn't bother me in the slightest personally. But your main area is pretty beat.

Perfect candidate for a hard top, you'll have no regrets. I put one in mine 2 years ago, it's holding up fine and still looks and shoots great.

Can someone point me towards an exploded diagram of the Heat Shield assembly? Took mine apart to clean because it was binding, and forgot to take pictures. Now I can't get it back together right.

Here's how I rebuilt mine based on the teardown I did....

Thanks for these images. That’s exactly how I have mine put together. For some reason, as soon as I screw everything down, the nylon piece is jammed tight between the coil bracket and the relay coil. It works when I loosen up the screws for the relay bracket, but then the relay is too loose for the nylon piece to catch on it. I’m going to have to check to see if the coil bracket is bent.

Mine was rubbing when I put it together too. I very slightly bent the screw tabs so the frame moved back. Now the mechanism moves freely. Hopefully, someone will chime in if there's a better "fix".

Will start with a full renovation of my Space shuttle pinball project.

Will install an hardtop and a very good cleaning of all the stuff under the playfield.
Inside the cabinet is a mess and also had an acid MPU.

Could somebody give me some pictures of the power supply board please?
Will need to do a cap kit and replacement of the relay. I would like to the backside of the board.

Thanks.

Dumb question but I need a quick reference. What type of transistor is the pre driver transistor for the tip 102 or 120s? My lower jet bumper stopped working and I'm pretty sure it is the transistor that needs to be replaced but I want to replace the pre driver transistor as well just to be safe and I can't remember off the top of my head what type of transistor this is. I think it's 2N4401 but want to be sure. Are there any other substitutions for this if I don't have one of those on hand? Thanks.

Hello All,

Glad to meet you, I am new here but have owned my Space Shuttle for 15 years. I hate to admit it, but I got enthused about pinball and bought three machines quickly, but then interests changed and I have rarely played them for the last 10 years or so. Stuck at home recently, I have renewed my interest and I am back full-throttle in playing pinball everyday.

Reading through the last 8 years of this thread, I have come upon several improvements I would like to make.

I have recently ordered MRS from M&M Creations for both Space Shuttle ramp switches, and will be replacing those as soon as I get them, but in the meantime I am having trouble with my left flipper sticking, and decided it is overdue for a rebuild.

The problem I am having is the left flipper base of the assembly has the ears for the coil stop broken off, so someone just ran one wood screw into the bottom of the playfield to hold the coil stop on. The manual says the left assembly is C-9953-L, but I cannot find that anywhere. What is the difference with that and the C-9952-L that is readily available?

Or should I take this time to upgrade the flippers via Vid's guide? Since I cannot reuse the base plate, I am fine with buying a whole new assembly, but do not know which one to get. And should I do both left and right since I am doing the change?

And what is the best way to work under the playfield? I can't seem to get the playfield out the right distance to use the prop stick, and yet I can't pull it out far enough out to rest against the backbox and/or balance without also hitting the ramp plastics.

I would appreciate any advice that anyone can offer. Thank you

P.S. is there anyway to add a machine to my profile that does not show up in the automated search? I also have a Bally Deluxe Fun Cruise, but it does not show up in the options to add the game to my collection.

Thanks

Hello everybody,

I have found that playfield. It looks really strange isn't it ?
Some colours seems different, some inserts are in different place ( the "T", the spinner 1000, 2000 and 4000), some inserts looks different and the holes for the 3 bumpers are really big.

Do you have an idea ?

I'm looking at buying a new backglass to replace my peeled original.
I see what appear to be several versions of the glass out there.
The one that PPS sells seems to be the same one at Classic Playfield Reproductions.
Marco's website shows one that looks a bit bluer. They won't say who makes the one they sell.
Has anyone bought one from PPS, CPR or Marco lately, and if so - how does it compare to the original?
I do want to go with mirrored glass, not a translite.

Recently bought the mirrored backglass from CPR and I think it looks really nice. It is not actually mirroring, though, i.e., you cannot see yourself in the "mirrored" parts, it is rather just a very shiny silver. Still good-looking, anyway, and definitely way nicer than a translite.

I am new to the club as I bought a Space Shuttle a few weeks ago from a guy who won it at a raffle at the Lodi Pinfest. It's a BLAST to play, and this machine is in very good shape overall for a 38 year old pin! Brand new backglass and the playfield is in very good shape. I put a new playfield glass in as well as changed out decals for drop targets and spinner. The machine looks super clean! Such a great, older machine that has historical relevance as it helped pinball make a comeback in the mid 80's. The outlanes are brutal!!!!!

I agree, the mirror has the look like “chrome” spray paint and not perfect mirror.

Welcome and right on with the comments! Yes outlanes don't get any easier at least for me, but love this pin as a true classic that looks great and is fun for anyone to play. A true "easy to learn, difficult to master" game.

I don't know, most of the stuff I get from CPR looks pretty good and I've seen plenty of it. Do you have a readily available supply of NOS parts for all of the games they have on their website?

Are all of their parts perfect? No. Should we be happy that we have a source of parts at all for games that are mostly 30+ years old? I know that I am, along with a lot of friends that I have in the hobby.

I'd say for a company of less than 10 people, they do a pretty damn good job. If this was so simple, we'd have plenty of other options...

This is poor reasoning. Just because there aren't alternatives doesn't make the company impervious to criticism.

I've spent dozens of hours correcting problems with their products and wasted hundreds of dollars on products with art that isn't anywhere near a passable reproduction. I pointed the original poster to Coos as someone that does a version of backglass mirroring that looks closer to the originals. Hardly an inflammatory thing to do.

But since you decided to go down the apologist route, it should be pointed out that in every case where CPR playfields and Outside Edge hardtops overlap Outside Edge has far more accurate artwork (including Space Shuttle), so it isn't as if this is an impossible task for a small company.

I'm not saying they should be impervious to criticism in the slightest. In fact I pointed out that some of their stuff can be improved. And yes, companies like Outside Edge have given us an alternative where in some cases the artwork may be superior. I think OE and others have learned from the criticisms directed at CPR and have stepped up their game. That's a good thing for everyone in the hobby and hopefully CPR follows suit.

My point is that many people think that companies like CPR and OE are huge organizations and are pumping this stuff out the way Stern releases new machines. The fact that there is someone that is trying to fill the void for these types of parts is something that I appreciate. And knowing that most of these companies are doing this as a side gig and have invested their personal time and a lot of money to do it, I have to give them some respect.

I'm always interested in alternatives. I had a look for Coos and I don't see that he's selling anything except maybe some Bingo backglasses. Does some pretty amazing stuff though...

My Shuttle behaved weird while playing last night.

I was one the 3rd ball, the outlanes were lit (score shuttle) I hit the change shuttle score ramp and it went to extra ball and of course went right down the left outlane, flashed and bell chime for extra ball but then went to match mode. WTH.

The outlane should score the current lit shuttle score at the time of rollover, correct?

I made some tests on mine.
Hard to understand clearly how it works in this specific case.

Outlanes lit, hit the change shuttle value and push immediately the left outlane, during the rollover. I'm not sure that it scores the lighting value during the rollover. It seems to score the value after the entire rollover, and then restart imediately a second rollover to choose a new value for the next ball. (I don't have the ring bell so I don't know how and when it is supposed to work)

At first I thought maybe it wasn't done cycling through the shuttle score but it had. Maybe I'll pull the glass and see if I can recreate it, it may have just been too much all at once for the code to register the extra ball in time.

Hey everyone, so when you open the airlock, does yours open automatically or do you have to press the right flipper button? I'm not sure what is considered normal behavior.

Ok, thanks. Looks like I have an issue then. Mine for some reason requires you to hit the right flipper button, which seemed strange to me. I will have to look into that more. If anyone has any ideas on what may cause that, please let me know.
