Quoted from iamdrunker:

Do I remove any of these components?

You can just cut one leg off the warming resistor And put shrink wrap on it or remove it entirely. The back box, you just need to remove the black wire on the board.

Newest member here, saved one from a meth head before he did more damage, got it for $450. He spray painted the back of the head and cut the wiring harness, then tried to repair with butt joint splice crimp connectors, Said got it cut by previous owner but I think he did it. He was surprised to see the lock on top didnt know how to remove the glass. Fortunately battery pack was on the bottom of the CPU so doesnt appear to have damage from corrosion. Im in the process of soldering and re-pinning wires. BG in perfect shape, inserts are amazinly perfectly flat. PF has a wierd issue where paint behind flippers lifted and left partial color underneath. Never seen that. I plan on getting it up and running then re clearing it.

Welcome aboard, looks like you'll have your work cut out for you, but that's half the fun of this hobby anyway isn't it. Don't be surprised if that board gives you more problems then you think around that battery pack, good luck

Quoted from iamdrunker:

speech test 1-6 seems to be fine than it hits # 7 and sounds like a scream?

Isn't that just the astronaut scream sound from when you lose it down the outland or change the shuttle bonus while Extra Ball or Special are lit?

#2355 4 years ago

Nice find! BG is great. The rest is a little rough but well worth what you paid I'd say.

Quoted from SkyKing2301:

I guess in the sound test mode you wont hear any words just sounds. I pressed SW2, I think it was SW2, on the board and it ran through all the words loaded on the ROMs. That gave me confidence to keep moving forward. Crispin steered me in the right direction.
The game is working perfectly but after installing Steve's new flipper kits W/ new coils I'm a bit concerned I could break the single drop target. I better get one in stock.

Hello all, I noticed last night that the backbox speaker doesn't seem to be working, the cabinet one works great, When I get home tonight I will run a sound test. Should I hear any sounds from the backbox speaker during a sound test?

This never happens, simple answer, yes.

Hello Pilots. Currently shopping out my newly-acquired space shuttle and order new stickers for Marco's they do not appear to be a match for the original art they have American flags on them not sure whether I'm going to use them or not. Anyway I was wondering if anyone could share some cool pics of LED light schemes for this game. I was thinking of maybe using red color by the USA rollover and blue under some of the Playfield plastic I also have seen some pictures of purple and blue in the back glass around the wingtips that look pretty cool .Also do I need to be concerned about controlled lights needing to be non ghosting type LED? On my fun house I only used white LEDs for what I presumed to be GI lighting but when the game goes into a different mode the GI lights flicker.

Make sure you pick up a Pinshaker and install in the game!

There's a guy on Facebook that throws an absolute tantrum any time he sees someone put colored bulbs in the GI. I like the blues in mine.

My ONLY gripe is that the shuttle is CRAZY bright and the reflection on the glass sucks. It's not SO bad while playing, but it doesn't photograph worth a damn.

KSU, we had the same problem with the backglass reflecting on the PF and being unable to see the ball. So my wife spent $4.00 and came up with this ingenious contraption. Black core Foam Core, Black 1/4" ribbon, 2 tiny washers, and 2 of those tiny 3M hooks with release backing on top of the head. Works AWESOME! Comes off in seconds and can be reinstalled just as fast.

Clever solution. Nice work!

I did mine like KSUWildcatFan and like it! Definitely use non ghosting in controlled lights. I went with the American flags for the drop in front of ramp and the darker ones for the drops up the middle. There are pics in this thread of backbox lighting. For glare, I have several of these.

Wow, I never thought of a shield. My Genie has a REALLY annoying glare, I was told the solution is to make sure the PF is brighter than the BG. Since my Genie BG looks super cool all lit up with LED's I never changed it, may try the deflector idea.
I haven't installed the BG in my SS yet as I just got the game working, had to solder trace jumpers to fix some display issues. 2 displays are gassed, im waiting on the rottondog replacement set. (Which brings up another topic...Rottondog display set or Pinscore? Rottondog was $50 cheaper...)
My ramp(s) are cracked at the termination bar to the playfield. Im guessing this is a common problem with this game as they are paper thin. I bent up a slightly wider and u shaped (to protect vertical edges of ramps) piece of polished stainless as a "cliffy" to replace the stock bar. Haven't installed it yet still cleaning the PF.
I have a pretty good stock of colored LED's (Comet black friday sale!) but only have White non ghosting. I dont wanna go overboard with the colors on the PF. I do understand pics dont do justice to a clever LED scheme but I do like pics of the reds in the rollover area.
Thanks for the tips guys.

That stainless is an awesome solution! How’d you secure it?

Quoted from ChrisPINk25:

I havnt yet, but will drill holes that mate up to original screws. its not in the correct position yet either, i will post pics of both ramps when finished.
I own a metal fab shop so it was EZ for me. If you go to a local HVAC company that has a fab shop, they will most likely give you a small strip of (5/8"-3/4" wide) scrap stainless if you ask nicely and give them a 6 pack lol

#2368 4 years ago

I have the bent plastic glare guards (sourced elsewhere), which work great for me. My kids hate them though, because from their low angle it partially blocks the display on DMD games. I can always tell what game they've been playing by whether the glare guard is still installed.

So, something to keep in mind if you have little ones or vertically challenged guests.

I'm 100% in love with X-Pin (by my understanding the same thing as Pinscore, I guess the developer split off or something?). I put X-Pin in my high speed and my space shuttle came with rottendog. They're fine, and better than stock LCDs imo, but I don't like them. They just don't seem as nice as the X-Pins.

That damn shuttle glare. I'm really considering doing the suggestion above with mine. It's very distracting in the middle of the PF.

I agree, and so non aggressive to install
It's worth a shot.

Only thing I don't like is that it makes it look super dorky from the side. But... Compromises. Not like it has to stay on when the machine goes off, lol

Has anyone tried the non-glare playfield glass?

#2375 4 years ago

I replaced all of my old bulbs with LEDs in my shuttle, and in the end went back to the old number 44 incandescent for just behind the shuttle. Cuts down on the glare by 50%. As a side note for the back glass ,RGB color changers behind the planet create an interesting animated effect.

+1 on the color changers. I love them there!

#2377 4 years ago

"Dorky" or not. You don't even notice it when standing in front of it, and for $4.00 does the job perfectly. No Glare. Better than spending $$$ for non-glare glass.

Funny thing. I had noticed the glare on Space Shuttle but I hadn't "put it together" that there was always a glare.

Yours looks great!

What did you use for the 63 bulbs in the exhaust?

#2381 4 years ago
Quoted from Heaterguy:

I left them in, the glare from the exhaust has never been an issue for me but the bright white from the shuttle when it's LED that is a little over-the-top for my liking because of the glare but it does stand out from across the room when they're in there.

Put a Comet 7 led strip to light up the center drain and flipper area. Works great.

#2390 4 years ago

The word Sex is airbrushed over 100 times throughout the planet.

#2391 4 years ago

When I hit the center ramp shuttle switch the shuttle pops up about .25". Is this normal?
My Shuttle is in good condition except the 2 screw holes in the wings are starting to crack and crumble. When I removed it and ramps to clean the game I put bigger washers on the screws but Im concerned they will crack the already fragile plastic especially with the shuttle bouncing up and down. Also...the ball tends to get airborn ALOT and lands on top of plastics. Is that normal or should I consider trying to slow them down. Coils are the correct model.

I think my problem with the ball getting Airborne is these ramp yellow post rubbers could be upside down. I initially was going to put them the other way around but saw some pictures where they were installed in this direction but every time the ball hits them at high speed it launches the ball I think they need to be flipped around with the wide part on Top can someone clarify this for me?

I know... what sucks is there were no instructions with the rubber kit I got from Marcos I looked up vids guide and it was helpful but no where did anyone say which direction to put these so I Googled it and saw two machines with them installed upside down grrrrr
