Do the ball ejectors just start kicking out on their own while the ball is somewhere else on the playfield, or do they only get stuck after ejecting a ball?

OK, that sounds like the relay that pulls in to score the pocket and then eject the ball is mechanically sticking.

You can fix this by removing the coil from the relay frame, and cleaning off the face of the coil core and the face of the armature plate where it contacts the coil core.

If the armature plate has burrs on it where it contacts the coil core, you will need to remove the burrs with a small piece of sandpaper.

Quoted from Mikala:

I put a small piece of cellophane tape on the side of the actuator plate that faces the coil. That interfered with the magnetism just enough to make a difference.

I've seen this fix used on many machines. On the 50s woodrails I've worked on, on more than one occasion I've found a 1-cent postage stamp pasted to the coil core to do this fix. I suppose it was a fairly well-known repair trick for pinball techs back in the day.

In my experience the problem with this fix is that the split metal coil core will eventually cut through the tape. When it does, it will contact the adhesive on the back side of the tape, making the relay even more sticky.

I think the more permanent fix is to remove all foreign material from the two metal surfaces, and clean and dress them properly.
