Wow - Ordered this Decal from Classic Aracdes (Whole PF) and applied it a few days ago. Looked really good was nice and smooth from a pretty bad PF.

Loaded the game up in the car to take it elsewhere, went back in the house for maybe 30 minutes and came back out and to my Horror, the decal was bubbled and rippled and ruined.

Now Granted it was a warm day for Michigan (80's) but I cannot believe this happened in just 30 minutes in the car. I'm not sure if there is a defect in the glue or what but this was totally crazy. The Plan was eventually to clearcoat it or something.

Thoughts?

Did u sand flat and fill all the holes?

Is it safe to assume the pin was not covered with a blanket or cardboard to protect it from sun/heat.

Out here in Arizona I basically won’t even move pins during the day in the summertime unless they are totally wrapped up. Underneath the glass, the play field will heat up like a convection oven unless it’s covered. It will warp the hell out of plastics, ramps, decals etc.
Same goes for cabinets with new decals.
If it gets really hot they will bubble up and ruin the art.

Side note too - There was no PF Glass. Just lockdown bar and the game. The game was in a Minivan in the middle so there wasn't much direct sunlight on it maybe a little , just the heat from the car.

Given the heat I'm not surprised that happened. Really a shame. I can't imagine how frustrated you must feel.

It looks like you did not sand the original playfield down. I can see the old art under the decal. How long has the decal been applied? did you use the wet method? maybe moisture was underneath?

I'm really not surprised. Those overlays cannot handle heat.
Someone had even shown one of the overlays all screwed up after putting a coat of clear over it.
Watching some of the guys use that Hardtop overlay has me a believer in it.

I'm not surprised, Classic arcades stuff is generally low quality. I bought that exact decal and the colors were so off I never installed it and it hit the trash when I sold the game. Playboy bumper caps from them look like crap but the only place to buy.

This is a fact and nothing new. It’s been well over 20 years.

Always last resort. Should be their motto.

Yeah, regardless of the heat from the car, the heat from the game/inserts (or any other building) would have likely eventually caused this.

Same thing happened to me on a capt fantastic.

The problem is that these overlays are terrible and should not be used.

Heat is the problem here. Mine was in a hot garage on the summer. Same exact thing happened.

Sorry, no good way out of this for you unless a hardtop or new playfield is made
