I am posting this as a courtesy to a 65+ yo, creepy guy who lives just outside of Roseburg, Oregon. He uses a cane to get around and he appears to have lived a very hard life. This is not quite a maw of despair but it’s out in the sticks!

I’m not a go between and I’m happy to have concluded my business there.

He posted a vague garage sale ad on Craigslist ( roseburg.craigslist.org link ) and as I had a return trip through the area I stopped by today. He is creepy, but true to his word.

I personally didn't want to spend the entire afternoon going through it all but I took a couple of pics.

These machines will be very inexpensive. All will need some level of work to get operational. If you are interested you should contact him before he actually loads them along with a lot of other junk into a large rollout dumpster at the end of the month.

I picked up a couple of project machines (wh2o and bop) which leaves quite a few different things still available.

All of the guys machines are in an large, non-climate control metal building and I can guarantee that there will be heavy dust, missing keys, some evidence of critters and a moderately long (ie. 50 yards) haul out to your truck. There’s an abundance of porn vhs tapes, etc strewn all over the floor of the building. Most of them are resting on pallets. Rats have soiled some of the machines.

The pinball machines that are remaining include
Mata Hari (appears complete, solid state version)
Bally Space Invaders (appears to be complete)
    High Speed (missing backglass)
    Genie (broken playfield glass)
Gottlieb Card Whiz (appears to be complete)
Double Play pitch & bat (appears to be complete)

    He also has:
an original Centipede upright (not working)
a 1957 Genco Gypsy Genie tarot card novelty machine (missing the zodiac sign glass at the selector). Slight image behind Card Whiz picture.
A Seeburg jukebox along with a couple of others.
An amazing assortment of original backglasses and translites in various condition. From em to Bally solid state and some.wpc stuff. I saw he had a Dr who for example.

There are a couple of titles that he says he won’t sell including a Banzai Run (it’s a sad sight to see), and an old school Contact Master (circa 1934). IMO I suspect if you waved $1200 in front of him he’d sell the Banzai.

I feel like I need a shower just reading your post...

How does one claim the porn vhs tapes???

Any info on the jukeboxes? Consider my interest piqued on one of those if working.

Not quite https://pinside.com/pinball/forum/topic/into-the-maw-of-dispair-true-account-of-my-latest-craigslist-nightmare#post-1760616; but, this one has pics!

My Banzair Run I got last year for the same price didn't require wading through that thankfully... and it was in a nice home for over 20 years.

If any of you go back, keep us updated. I love hearing these types of stories.

This kind of stuff is for the birds.
I'm a pin purist and even then I wouldn't have any desire to inspect to buy and try to restore, as he will want "close to market" prices and who knows what critters/termites/water has touched them.

I bet you a nice hot cup of coffee they "work" according to the owner.

Without a doubt, the greatest thread of all time and should be mandatory reading for all new members. Thanks for digging that up

I’m sure you are 100% correct. I’d like a jukebox one day, but I’ll be honest, using my phone Bluetoothed to my $150 Pathfinder speaker does the trick. I just like the look of an actual jukebox, but I’d most likely never use.

I own a commercial Rock-Ola CD bubbler, and I go out of my way to turn it on. It's just not relevant anymore.

True story - early during the COViD lockdown, I decided to pick up a STTNG. On the 2hr car ride down to get it, I had my niece read that story as it was her first experience picking up a machine since moving here. She was crying laughing the whole time (except for being rightfully terrified at parts).

While I doubt many of us will ever spin a yarn quite like the Maw, it is amazing how many memories I have over the years picking up games. In addition the the normal nostalgia I have when I go into the game room, it does bring up memories from each new addition to the collection.

I've been looking for a Genie Project. I love to restore hard luck cases. I'd buy and pay shipping if anyone going to grab a game from him would grab Genie too.

Texted him this morning and he said he has no pinball machines available.
