Southern Coin-Op presents Pinball in Pelham 3, January 27th, 2018. It's been over a year but we're back! The entry fee is $30. Practice will be available from 8:30-10:00 AM Central time. Tourney begins promptly at 10:15am. Format is group match-play with IFPA scoring(4 player group 7,5,3,1 or 3 player group 7,4,1). Each player will play six rounds of three games for a total of eighteen games. There are no finals, just highest point total wins! Our first two tournaments had 38 players each. Help us put this one over the top!

Details: Seeding in the first round is random. All rounds after that the seeding is Swiss pairing (players will be paired with players who have similar points totals). Games will be assigned using the balanced method, meaning every effort is made to put you on different games each round. Tie breaking will be automatic by the software based on your number of wins and second places. However, any ties in the top six positions will be broken by playing a single game chosen at random.
Prizes will be awarded to the top six finishing positions of 38%, 28%, 15%, 8%, 6%, 5%. There will also be door prizes and possibly another pinball machine will be raffled off. There will not be any food provided but we will take a one hour lunch break after the first or second round. So pack a lunch or go to one of the many places to eat within 5 minutes of Southern Coin-Op. The address for Southern Coin-Op is 108-A Hilltop Business Center Drive, Pelham, Alabama 35124.

Many of the games will be new this year. We expect somewhere between 30-45 games in the tourney! If anyone would like to volunteer a pin for the tourney please contact Mike Gray at [email protected] or 205-563-3784.

We will be listing the games here as well as posting pics, updates, etc.

Watch Braden pick it for Game 7 tomorrow and beat the old man on it.........

Fyi, even though I currently have Time Machine in a bank, Mike wants to keep it out of the tourney so it's in great shape for the winner. Look for some changes and additions to the banks in the coming week.

We held the IFPA Alabama SCS finals at this same location this weekend. Here are a few pics of what's in store for Pip3. Expect even more machines will be there on the 27th!

Please bring a folding chair if you have one. Also PLEASE I beg you, please try to bring exact change and smaller bills if you can. Making change for 40-60 players is just not possible. Thanks!

#23 6 years ago

Just a heads up , make sure to put( hilltop) on address , address is 108 a hilltop business center drive . Lots of ppl do not put hilltop on address or Google does not put it on address , you need to double check .

Here's an easy way to find Mike's shop. On Highway 31 in Pelham, turn in between Precision Auto Tune and McAllisters. Go up the hill and it is the green awning building on the right. Park anywhere you can find as most of the businesses around Mike's are closed on Saturday.

More game additions. Finally getting some EM's.
Pioneer EM
Toledo EM
Pro-Football EM

Black Pyramid was dropped off last night. Pioneer should be dropped off today.

Yep! Black Pyramid and Pioneer playing well. Seawitch came and went, too many issues. Target Alpha is there and working well. I put a 9 hour day in at Mike's today, mainly fixing Corvette, Pinbot, and leveling games and changing settings for the tournament. I hope we have a good turn out as this has been just a ton of work. Black Jack is coming in the morning(yikes). I hope it works well. We have 15 banks of 3 games with several spares in case of break downs.

1 Wizard, S-MVE, Mata Hari
2 Vulcan, MMR, Playboy(Bally)
3 GOT pro, Evel Knievel, Meteor
4 Star Trek pro, Toledo, Power Play
5 Kiss(Bally), Aerosmith pro, SBM
6 Star Trek(Bally), Pro-Football, TWD pro
7 Pinbot, CV, Joker Poker

11 I500, Countdown, I-M
12 IJ, Target Alpha, Lost World
13, SS, Paragon, Jack's Open
14, Shadow, Black Jack, Pioneer
15, Funhouse, Black Pyramid, Corvette

Spare games are a duplicate Playboy and Mata Hari, Ghostbusters pro.

PIP3 results and fun facts. We had 56 players, by far the most ever for an IFPA sanctioned event in the state of Alabama. Of those 56, 10 players had their first ever pinball tournament experience. For another 11 players it was not their 1st, but a step towards getting 5 events in and becoming a rated player. So 35 rated players attended. The average round lasted 1 hr 16m. The longest round was 1 hr 34m and the shortest was 1 hr 5m. The tourney was done about 6:50PM, so just a little over 7.5 hours plus the 1 hour lunch. Of 46 games, only two broke down. Several others went down but were able to be fixed. Thanks to Mike Gray for all the hard work and money he put into this tourney. Thanks again to all the players and everyone who brought games or fixed games. See you guys and gals next time!

Great tournament Chris and Mike! Always a fun time!

#32 6 years ago

Wow, I'm still recovering from the trip and the marathon tournament...and licking my wounds from losing so many games by so few points! Lots of very good players.

Big thanks to everyone who helped run the event.

Bigger thanks to the owners of the games for letting us play them. That Wall of Bally Goodness was a treat of excellent condition vintage games.

Really had a great time.

Thanks Chris/Paula!
