I’m not getting out of the hobby but I was supposed to be taking on my own account at work. Due to a customer selling off 1/2 of its aerospace business, I’m back at my old position. Two weeks after accepting. I was going to have to slow down my work at the beginning of this year. However, they want me to run another account but don’t know when. So I’m on a holding pattern and may get the call any day.

I’m at a time in my life where I rather have my time vs pay someone to do a timing belt for me rather than to do my own or paid to do someone else’s. I was supposed to be dead by now so I’m enjoying life and doing things that I always wanted to do or have within reason. Life’s short and in a position with no debt so why not.

TL;DR version: not getting out of hobby but may not be able to do as much especially not major work.

Sorry freddy its not you but I just don’t want to learn how to weld or TIG. Just too many other things I want to do.

Note to self, when working on a route pig of these Sega/Stern’s double the order of these brittle insert lamp holders. I ordered 10. Actually 20 are broken. So ordered another 12 so I have 2 spares.

I just went and did a spot check on mine with those sockets. I had totally forgotten how they worked like that. It's been more than a decade since I've touched them. I shopped it out and did regular bulbs then. Luckilly mine still seem pliable, but will put a few of those on my pre-order list.

The beautiful new rails from ibis showed up today. So wrapped up them and most plastics where I can while I wait for the mechs to dry from cleaning.

#55 12 months ago

Dang, now I'm gonna need to get a set of rails like that.

The large ramp was cleaned up, Novus all the numbers, flame polished, and new star posts with colored Titan rings installed.

Flipper rebuild with new bushings completed with new flipper bats, decals and Titan flipper rings.

Sweet !

#58 11 months ago

Dang. Can I send my ramps to you to clean up? Mine aren't too bad, but I'm gun shy about trying the flame polish method. I've seen it done many times over the years, but I worry about warping things too much.

#59 11 months ago

You can but it’s just a matter of knowing when enough is enough. But takes practice knowing when enough is enough.

This advice can be used in many places.

If I had some to practice on, I would.

The Hogfather from the PA Cartel 80spit knocked another cabinet out. Now I have to get back to work.

I'm hoping my cabinet will look that nice once I decal it. Where did you get yours? I picked mine up from Retro Refurbs.

But what I'm kinda jealous of is your garage. I want a 2 post so bad, but no room.

Why be jelly? He can’t use it either with the pinball machines in the way.

Or, they're one hell of a pinball lift.

Customer supplied the decals.

Don’t be jelly is right! I worked my ass off doing shift work and two other part time jobs to get it. Than did side work for a lot of years. I also have a 4 post that my buddy bought for me to store his 69 vette for 10 years. It’s being rented to store another friends car for a few months. I don’t like to do car work much any more.

I hear ya! Got two single 4 posters at home, then a double at the garage. Mainly for storage now. Still do a few things here and there. Mainly general maintenance now though.

Some of us have small garages. I’m only at 24x32 so have to make do with only two.

Nice set up, way to make use of all the space you have!

#70 11 months ago

Gotta say, love the race deck too. I went with that at the house. Went coated at the remote garage.

Shelby out! Brembo In?

#72 11 months ago

No it’s a buddies GT that’s renting space.

#73 11 months ago

Very nice set up. If it wouldn't take up the parking for my wife, I'd have a 2 post. But alas, it's not to be. Maybe in a few years when we find a place with a big shop I can set up. But also, working on cars is much more exhausting than pinball. Spent all weekend replacing the radiator, a/c condensor, plugs, wires, distributor cap and rotor, and power steering hoses on my beater pickup. Needs to be in good condition for me to bring home my Foo pin in a couple months. A lift would've been a help.

#74 11 months ago

My wife backs the ranger in the spot with the two posts so it's not too bad unless your wife is untrainable. I know there's some people that just can't be careful. Not sure if you have the space, but if you do, build a shop. I live in small less than 1/4 acre place as it was all we could afford at the time. Got the loan to build this shop and wanted a little larger but township wouldn't allow it.

Ugh, yeah I hate that car work unless it's a fun car you don't "have" to work on. And you're right the lift has helped with using as an elevator for getting things in/out of the truck!

#75 11 months ago

Huge thanks to JodyG yet again. He got me a new ramp flap made so got it on. Many betters. Expect to see these flaps available at Marco in the future.

My buddy Chip TIG’d this and a few other parts for me. With the ramp done, I was able to get it off to the rotisserie. Cabinet is still in progress of reassembly.

Great job Dmace. Really looking awesome. Love it! And SP is a great game too. My 1st ever pin.

Hope all goes smoothly for you the rest of the way.

Looking forward to seeing your finished pics.

Been sick the past day or so so it’s been slow going. Got more of the cabinet together until I ran out of steam.

The game can wait you heath is 1st issue. Lack of good health means less pinball. It is looking great so far keep the work.

#80 11 months ago

Nice work. I enjoy reading your post. Have you ever made any videos?

Thanks. I haven’t because I feel weird being another talking head talking about me or what I’m doing. Never really felt I’d be doing this several years later and the amount I’ve done.

#82 11 months ago

Made it back out for a few hours today. Closing in on completion. New rails, legs, and lock down bar. Tilt is sending me side blades I ordered and paid cash at Pinfest. Should have them soon and can drop the playfield after that.

What a good-looking space shuttle!

Love follow your threads. It's so much fun watching these games come back to life.

Sweet Dude!

Looks really good. Question: I see you've got the Cartman topper wired up. Is that going to be wired to the G.I. or something else?
I managed to snag a whole set of those dolls of all the boys and am going to put them on top. I haven't decided if I'm going to light them.

It has an OE harness and topper. When I get back to it, I’ll get some pics of where it goes.

Huh. Mine has the original Cartman topper and sign, but it doesn't look like it was ever wired up for light. I wonder if that was added later in the production run.

#87 11 months ago

Yep. Has a light and all.

It has this plastic thumb screw and an 89 flasher tied to it.

Huh. Looking at the serial number on that board, it puts it as about 300 machines before mine. Mine has a build date of Apr 30, 99. I wonder if that was actually an earlier version where they made the topper light up? I can't tell if it's either end user modified or factory. Some of those were hard to distinguish from. The hack cuts say home, but all the hardware says factory.

Either way, mine certainly does not have the wiring for that. Where does that topper light plug in to?

Agreed, not sure what the deal is. I assume it was always on route, and the shape of it looks like it so I can't see why an Op would have put the effort into it. Will be interesting to see if anyone else knows.
