I tried running the prototype roms many years ago and had issues so I went back to the released roms. Last week I noticed that someone had added a new display and CPU rom to the IPDB website so tonight I burned off an updated display and cpu rom. The remaining voice and sound roms were the same version and I checked the checksum to what I had burned years ago.

I installed the new rom set and even with the volume turned down some of the voices are really staticy. Some voices come through perfectly clear so I don't think it's an issue with the speakers but others are horrible. I also recently installed a colordmd and didn't play it much between then and now so could it have something to do with the colordmd ?

As a follow up, I found another post that talked about doing the sound test in diagnostics. One sound rom (U36) was very garbled. I pulled it and found one of the pins bent under. Straightened the pin and reset the chip. Reran the diag and it is much clearer now.
