That would be awesome, but I haven't heard that you can and there are no menu options for a shaker.

I’ll take both if you start selling them!

Nice work! I'd buy a set also if you make more. Thanks

I’ve wanted the Cartman topper for so long, but didn’t want to spend the $50 on it. Holding off, paid off! Snagged the set for $20!

What's the best way to mount all the figures? I bought them all too but haven't mounted them yet.

Lowe's has brass screw inserts that screw into the hole on the bottom of the figures. That makes it easy to mount them to a board and the board can be mounted to the cabinet through the original hole for cartman.

There's some pictures in here for reference.

Mine has a toggle bolt to screw to the top of the backbox. Drill a 3/8" or 1/2" in the bottom of the figure for the toggle bolt.

Good info, I havent mounted them yet. My machine is currently in pieces getting a through cleaning and replacement of a few bad switches, broken plastics, and my uncle welded my broken cartman VUK wire form for me. So I will be out of commission for a bit.

Anyone know where to order bridge rectifier for this game? I cant seem to find them anywhere.

Have you checked Ebay? That's where I got mine.

Whitestar uses MB-35 style bridges with spade terminals. Careful getting the old one out. Best to cut the terminals off the old one if you can get in there. If not, you need to take it really slow. Some people use multiple soldering irons to keep the solder on all the terminals fluid so you can remove it. A Hakko de-soldering gun works good for this too.

Putting everything back together. When I first got the machine I “cleaned it”...I had no idea the targets were colored haha. I took off all plastics and cleaned and waxed the entire play field. I replaced the slingshot plastics, and replaced a few other broken plastics and some rigged up switches. Silicone on the protectors on the cartman hole and the inlanes. And had the broken cartman wireform welded back. It’s coming together nicely!

So happy to finally join this club as of a week or so ago. I know it's not a lot of peoples' fave machine, but when I saw it as a kid, I turned to my little sister and told her, "One day, I'm gonna own this machine," and I finally did.

I hope you guys don't mind if I steal some of these ideas for mods

Thats the point of sharing! Welcome to the club!

#670 3 months ago

Ok, hold on to yer hats folks, or drop your linen and start your grinning, because Bublehead has joined the club at TPF. Wife saw a SP with a brand new color DMD (installed brand new at the beginning of the show) for what she wanted to spend for an almost working all the way (you know spits balls, flips, drains, flashes lights, makes sounds, plays music, scores points) pin that had a trough switch harness problem. Well I troubleshot the harness within 5 minutes of owning the machine and I got him to knock off $150 bucks for the trouble. Now the big questions start to come around, like availability of cabinet decals, NOS playfields or recreactions, wire harnesses, title specific parts and things like scats and manuals, and plastics sets, and sticker sets, and missing figures, cool mods, non original figures “I need Towelie!!”

Don’t answer right away, though, I will read the thread cover to cover and post again any questions, however if you got recomendations, I am all eyes...

#671 3 months ago

Hit ebay for any missing figures. I think the topper and Kenny are under the brand "Fun" and the smaller ones are keychains. Lots of mod opportunities there too.

#672 3 months ago

Oh, man, I had been debating getting a color DMD since the day I picked up the machine, but seeing the SP at TPF you got running one, I decided to bite the bullet and get one. Super congrats on the grab--glad someone ended up nabbing it! <:

The Color DMD is a $400 upgrade, and on that poor SP, it needed all the love it could get...

Secret to no one else nabbing it? Mr Hanky. He was missing in the toilet tank. Surprise Surprise I asked to see the inerds and he had a NOS Hanky laying in the coin box, plus cliffys he never installed.

Has anyone replaced the bell wire in their machines? Was it worth it, and did you ever get or feel any feelings of regret, suicide, or self harm after starting your project? I fear the ongoing war with wire breaks, but I fear a rewire too.

Congrats on joining the club! I joined under similar circumstances. My wife just fell in love with one we played on location. We couldn't stop smiling as we played!

Why would you replace the "bell wire" in the machine? What exactly do you mean by that?

Bought one looking at the same machine! I've yet to install it, been tired since the fest.
Looking at that one though, three things are necessary to make South Park pretty more important than the color screen. In order:

LEDS
side blades
Pinstadium lights

#676 3 months ago

The trough wiring harness issue is one reason why I would replace the bell wire. Once bell wire insulation cracks, the solid core wire will break from vibration. If the insulation is still pliable, no problems, but with age, 22 gauge bell wire sucks.

What are your guys thoughts on cabinet sideart decals? I just cleaned the inside of my machine and replaced a bunch of plastics, repaired switches, etc so the inside looks almost new. But the outside is ragged. I bought mine from a route, it was apparently in a bunch of places over its life. Cabinet art looks like its chipping away, cracked, faded, scratched, etc. I have only seen decals in 2 places, Retro Refurbs and eBay for around $200.

I think my main concern is the amount of prep work that needs to be done, do i need to sand off all the old art? or just get everything smooth? I dont have a dolly to take all the legs off, so id have to rig something up for the table to rest on.

other than that, I have seen a few restored cabinets that looks really good, but then I have seen some where the art looks wrong, like its way too big and the colors are off. I would like to stay away from a known bad source of the artwork if possible. Thoughts?

This is my boat too. Wife said “restore the cabinet” and I said, um, well honey... ok, let me see what I can find... so I am on the prowl for decals, sticker sheets and plastic sets. Is anyone making licensed reproductions? I think I saw plastics on a supplier site.

I dont think anyone is making licensed ones. I personally wouldn't care if its licensed or not as long as it looked correct, size and colors, doesn't have to be PERFECT. But that's just me, i know people feel differently about that.

Unless Stern/Comedy Central/South Park studios is selling them or has the plan of selling them, then no harm no foul IMO for a 20 year old pinball cabinet artwork that is never getting produced again.

Funny your wife said to restore it, my wife said not to because it has "Charm" haha

She wanted one NIB 20 years ago, so now I have got to make the dream come true... as best I can.

Quoted from Bublehead:

haha nice! From what I can tell, the ones currently on ebay look terrible, the colors are way off and the font on the sign looks weird to me. The retro refurb version looks closer, but i feel like the comedy central logo looks way too big by the flipper. Maybe i'm mistaken...

#682 89 days ago

Most likely, I will end up redrawing the cabinet art and have it reproduced. I would then offer the images to anyone to use and have repros made. That bypasses copyright issues, because they cannot prevent you from recreating something you already legally own, for archive/restoration purposes. But if I had test prints just laying around, they might accidentally get shipped to a SP owner who needed them. I am all about helping owners stay owners, incuding myself.

Has anyone CC’d their pf, or is it worth it, and has anyone seen a NOS pf in the wild? Did factory mylar come standard on all playfields? My pf is not great, but not bad either. The colors seem a little “off” due to age. Chipped wood here and there. At least everything was working mostly, as far as coils, 100%, flashers and lamps? Crap shoot. I think 50% may light up?. Poor thing has been rode hard, but it has a new, friendly ole Geppetto to breath some new life into this wooden boy, and someday, he might actually become real again.

Mylar locations are in the manual, so I believe it may have been standard, or at least came with the machine for optional placement. It was on my machine, but i removed all of it except for the area around the bumpers because im scared to pull up such a large piece haha.

I think someone here on pinside had a PF listed for like $800-1000 a while back. Idk if that sold or not.

I chickened out.....
I picked up a JP instead, but am still open to a SP, yes I love the sound bites, toys, art etc. but will need to play one for a while before deciding to get one.
Maybe one day, if I can find one at a better price. Damn I love that Butter's plunger rod and the toilet, and Kenny and.......damn, I'm have regrets already.
I buy a machine and have regrets, I don't buy one and have regrets, I sell one and have regrets....what a hobby!!!

don't

Im definitely gonna buy some side blades at some point. I was originally gonna do mirror blades, but after seeing a machine with the art, I’d much rather do the latter instead. Got my color DMD in the other night—went LED instead of LCD, and really love how it turned out.

The wiring on pinball machines uses stranded wire. IMO - No need to replace it unless it got hacked up or physically damaged.

The SP I bought does not have stranded wire, at least it felt like 22 gauge solid core bell wire and looks nothing like the wire in pictures from other machines in this thread. It is thinner and really stiff, with cracked insulation all over the place. It should get here from TPF soon and I will take some pics and post them as I sort the trough switches out. This may be a custom rewire of the trough switches and an added connector to facilitate removing the whole trough mech. It was a birds nest but not unrepairable.

Looking to buy an led light setup for my south park. What kit would be the best as far as color & such? I want the blue background as well, not just led replacements. I want color. Any info would help. Thanks.

Also, I saw those blue inserts on here for the cartman hole instead of cliffy's. Are these offered anywhere?

Where do you order the color dmd from...and how easy is it to install

ColorDMD can be ordered online here:

https://www.colordmd.com/Home.html

As far as installation is concerned, if you are reasonably handy, it takes about 10-15 minutes.

Your parts look great! Especially like them after using clear silicone to hold them in place. I tried hot glue the first time...didnt work out like i planned.

Can't wait for a kenny hole protector . I was going to try you metal fix, but havent gotten around to it.

#700 84 days ago

True story here, I have always liked this pin and wanted to get one for my Bday. My wife hates SouthPark and strongly objected to it, so what did she get me instead you ask? A NIB MMR-LE - I guess she really didn't want me to get one but I'll live I guess. I can still play it at the shows...
