Getting a loud hum from Firepower. A logical first step seems like replacing the pot (5000 ohm, #942). I can't find any that match the original, does anyone have a source, or an acceptable substitute? (I'm sure I cant attach a generic eBay 10 kOhm one, but not sure how to adapt the lugs).

I sell my adaptation on my website - www.kahr.us

Hum is usually bad power supply filtering (capacitors or bridge rectifier) on the sound board or can be the amplifier chip itself. I would not expect that pot to be causing hum - it's just used for mixing speech and sound ratio.

Agree- recap the sound and speech boards and replace all the header pins before trying the mixer pot. Those are more likely the cause of hum. If you had scratchy sound or volume that jumps up and down, I'd look to the mixer pot.

Thanks for the advice. Just moved the game next to a gorgar, so we'll swap boards neck and forth to narrow down the issue.

no need to swap between games. The posters above are 200% correct. Redo all the caps on that board and reflow all headers and maybe your bridge if its leaky or testing flaky.
All old caps need to be replaced. They are only good for 10 years or so. Newer ones are much better and smaller so you can up the voltage for reliability.
