I'm quite excited to be picking up a new machine tomorrow... a very rare title in excellent cosmetic condition (yes, I'm being vague-- I'll post pictures once I have it in hand).

Anyway, the decades of storage have been less than kind to the cloth covered wire, and it's tatty... not just dirty, but there are places where the cloth has decayed and there are exposed wire. Normally, I'd simply use the plastic covered wire that I have on hand for my other repairs, but in this particular case, given the age and condition of this machine, I really want to use correct wire.

I found an old thread where they talked about *what* wire to use (consensus was 18ga), but not where to source it from (other than suggesting using a parted out machine, which I don't have).

So, those of you who have worked with new or NOS cloth covered wire, where did you source it from? I will need a handful of colors, but not as many as a typical EM, as this is an older and simpler machine.

Search google. There are several sellers of cloth/fabric covered wire.
I just bought some for my old magneto telephones to wire through the house.

I used this place a few years back. However, they lacquer the cloth wire by default, so you will need to specify that you don't want it lacquered.

I'm not sure how closely this matches original wiring, but this place sells 250ft spools: http://www.fabricwire.com/flat-wire/
