Sound on machine was working fine and after about 45 minutes started cracking randomly before completely going out. I’m thinking this is likely a cold solder joint somewhere on the sound board but was hoping for a second opinion before going that route. The game had been sitting a long time and was covered in dust. The only other thing I can think of is a bad amp chip, but I’ve replaced them in the past only to have the issue reappear, which is why I’m thinking CSJ, maybe a capacitor on the sound board, so I was curious what others thought who have had this issue? Thanks in advance.

Start with the basics. Make sure the wires from the speaker are all connected, same with the other end at the sound board. Adjust the volume up and down to make sure the volume potentiometer is good. Inspect the sound board too, like you said.

Here’s a video of what the machine is doing and the sound issue. It didn’t crackle in this video before going out it just went out and started humming. The other day I was fixing a back slingshot and when I grounded the transistor the sound went out so I replaced the diode on the coil and the transistor and didn’t have any sound issues after that... then it started randomly turning off. Thanks for the suggestions.

Potentiometer good.
Wires good.

Checking the board today for CSJ.

Try making sure all the chips are seated properly. Sometimes even reseating them is good to do. Have you inspected the sound board?

Well, you have a 5803 MPU interfaced to a WMS D-11581 sound board via a unique interface board. I’d begin by reseating ribbons. The D-11582 has two amps so this is unlikely to be an analog issue.

Grounding a coil drive transistor isn’t associated with the sound board in any way.

Cold solder joint on the two amp chips. Fixed and working. Thanks.
