As a theater tech back in the day installing FILM projection and sound systems, yes some movies are mixed horribly. Sound was always elusive to EQ
in a theater. I would use a real time analyzer with pink noise, but that was just an approximation. Every movie was mixed differently. Saving Private Ryan was one of the best mixed movies I have heard. Oddly enough one of the last digital sound companies to enter the 35mm market was Sony SDDS which had to resort to the worst real estate space on the film as the better spaces were taken up by Dolby and DTS. That area of the film had the most wear through a projector over time. I have to admit though, the Sony system sounded better. One last thought, as I listened to movies over the years yes, they got worse. I learned that movies these days have to be produced quickly and mixing is low on the priority list. As an after thought I wonder if they do looping anymore. Looping is when dialog is recorded on set as a reference but the actual used dialog is re-recorded in a sound booth for clear accurate sound of just the dialog using the actor to match the lips. (Or sometimes not the actor).
