I was wondering is there an aftermarket or upgrade to the three tone beep, beep and boop for Gottlieb System 1 games ?

I got my first one, a Gottlieb Dragon. I like the game but think it would be nicer if it had some other sound than beep's and boops.
Just seems odd to me for example when you hit a pop bumper you get an electronic tone.

Maybe it grows on you. I don't know. Are they any aftermarket or alternate upgrades for sound for these games ? Curious.

Thanks

Bally definitely had the edge is sound around this time (late 70s, early 80's). You kinda just have to deal with the beeps and bops..

You can substitute a set of chimes for the 3-tone board if you *really* wanted to.

Chime assemblies pop up on ebay once in a while. There's also someone who reproduces generic chime assemblies in Germany: http://www.chimeunit.com/

It doesn't grow on you.
Some folks replace the 3 tone board with a chime unit. Sounds better.

Thanks for the information. I was hoping there might be another sound board or an upgrade. I'd maybe consider doing a chime swap. All my other games are EM's and I actually have a spare chime that could be rebuilt. Is voltages or connections an issue swapping from the tone board to a chime... ?

Yeah - I was thinking the tone sound doesn't grow on you - but maybe you learn to tolerate it.

Nope. The transistor on the driver board grounds the circuitry on the 3-tone board the same way it grounds coils for the chime unit.

You can retrofit chimes or probably even a later sound board (like what is in my buck rogers) that has better sounds then the simple beeps.

I wondered about that. Same MPU/Driver board, but not sure how it would take advantage of the additional sounds if you put in a later sound board.
