The saying may be accurate, but it has been overused on this site and in regards to pinball. We've all heard it, we all know it. It doesn't add anything to the conversation

This is the rational choice, however there is something cool about opening the box, being the first person to set eyes on it, and setting it up yourself. I enjoyed this experience with TSPP briefly. Then the immediate issues sorta killed it. Solder splashed across several wires causing a coil to contantly fire, the damage to the underside wood, completely misaligned left inlane ball guide, etc. Local HUO after a thorough inspection and playing it is the way to go. Let someone else take the risk.
