There is a pot (potentiometer) on the sound board that will let you adjust the mix of voice vs. sound effects.
Just to clarify, at the lower right side of your MPU is a ribbon cable that attaches to your sound board. The adjustment dial is marked in this photo (I'm sorry for the crappy shot. It was the best I could do on short notice.) Small adjustments make a big difference. It may take a few tries to get it just right for your tastes.
