I use my vinyl cutter with clear vinyl and make all sorts of protectors for my games. Small circles for where the balls drop out of ramps, large pieces around magnets. Could easily design a protector around targets.

Dang, lightning flippers on Sorcerer, as if it wasn't tough enough. 
Looks awesome, looking forward to doing the swap out on mine. I got lucky and found someone with a spare Sorcerer playfield to send out and get resurfaced.
