First 2 of 4 mounted for the printer. 2 Wednesday if we are dry. Just got over another cold, but things move quicker now that its getting colder.

Each playfield gets mounted to its own 1/2" mdf for trying to flatten out the old playfields. Usually they (MDF) is only used once. A slow process for restoration. #10 is coming in soon.

All 4 playfields at the printer. He is weighing them down with a box of paper to try to get them as flat as possible before printing. Might have 2 or all back next week. Working on the next 5.

#53 9 years ago

Looking good, so thankful you are restoring these playfields.

#54 9 years ago

Looks great John, please continue to document this for us!

It's going to be a great 2015...
10 beautiful "like new" Sorcerers being re-born...

#56 9 years ago

I'm trying to have them all returned by xmas. 4 at the printers should make it out by the end of November or sooner.

If these turn out like the others shown on the website, I would say better than new. Can't wait.

I may have to make a run to your place to see this before it's installed.

Early in December would be great timing for me(#6). Looking Good!

First 4 were printed. 1 had near perfect alignment, 3 were slightly off.

#62 9 years ago

Had numerous cold the last 4 weeks. Look for update next week.

#63 9 years ago

Well I got all four playfields finished with my 4 coats (only 1 coat a day) of varethane. Had to buy a new compressor since the old one had its life. These playfields will go out for final clear coats to the CPR contractor next week.

Are you going to do another batch? I'd love to have one, they look great. Ed

#65 9 years ago

These are restorations, & yes they are being done in batches. I have 5 others going through the process & a few more are likely coming in the next 30 days. Along with other restoration titles.

#66 9 years ago

Cool if I find a playfield I'll send it in. Ed

#67 9 years ago

Looks awesome!

#68 9 years ago

One of those playfields is mine. I can't wait to get that sucker back and get to work!

#69 9 years ago

2 first bunch, that got missed should get sprayed white Tuesday.

#70 9 years ago

Picked up a well used Sorcerer on Monday, played it for a few days then stripped the playfield this weekend and got it all ready for shipping to John tomorrow. My first restoration pin, so I'm beyond excited to have a beautiful playfield to look forward to. These pictures look fantastic, keep up the great work!

#71 9 years ago

Here are the missed first 2 with masking removed. They get 2 coats of varethane before mounting to mdf & then on to the printer.

These are the two of the original six that needed extra work done? I believe one of these is mine. I will be tracking the process with excitement.

#74 9 years ago

4 Playfields were picked up for finish clear coats. I will post pictures when they return.

#75 9 years ago

2 playfields went to the printer today. Last 3 are underway, & #10 (Canada) needs to be picked up at the post office.

#76 9 years ago

Awesome, thanks for the update.

#77 9 years ago

I am in the process of stripping one down to send your way. They are looking great!

The ones at the printer are receiving more weight to flatten them, & will get printed next week. Quickly after the weight is lifted off of each one. #10 from Alberta is here. 1 or 2 more coming in. #7 - #9 getting some epoxy repairs before the start of the restoration process (sanded bare already).

#79 9 years ago

#10 is mine. Sweet! Just received a big order of replacement parts from Marco & Pinball life for the restoration. Puttering on the cabinet and component rebuilds will be my way to pass the winter months...

#80 9 years ago

Hi John, I guess I should have joined this forum sooner. You think I would have in the last 10 years. I remember talking to you a few years back about this project, but I wasnt sure where it went. Looks like it went pretty far, lol.

I would like to get mine done, but im going to have to save up a month or so, hopefully you are still doing them then, but I have a spare playfield here that I would be willing to donate now the use of to the community if they want to get one done as long as you end up with one for me to have done in the end.

thanks!
Wayne

Hell wayne, I'd buy that from you if you would send it to john so he could do it for me. You then could use that money to help pay for him doing you one. Let me know. Ed

Hi Ed, sounds like a good idea, but then I wouldn't be able to get one done, lol, because I would no longer have a spare playfield.

The 2 playfields missed from the first group have been printed. Alignment was good. 1 - 2 weeks air drying before going through all the clear coating. Pictures aren't the best, so I will take some more later.

Looking great one of those is mine (#6)

Looking good!

I have never seen a Sorcerer playfield without some extent of beatdown on it. Even without the cc I am getting the grins and giggles. Thanks for all your hard work John and for keeping us informed with these frequent updates. They truly make my day a better one.

#87 9 years ago

Sorcerer artwork is ridiculously good. I hope someday to get one of these.

#88 9 years ago

Playfields just removed from 1/2" mdf for printing. These 2 were some of the worst warped or racked playfields printed. The printer weighed them down, but still had to raise the ink head. Turned out well, so far over the years only one (Sorcerer) was rejected for direct ink restoration.

#91 9 years ago

How many more do you have to do? I'm not sure where mine is in the lineup.

#92 9 years ago

I'm starting #6 - #9, #10 from Alberta is here. #11 & maybe #12 on the way from USA. First 4 should go home in early December, & these 2 maybe xmas. Others early 2015 that are here or coming in.

#93 9 years ago

John I found a sorcerer playfield that I'm buying. Wear do I send it? Give me the details on payment, ect. Thank you, ed

#94 9 years ago

Great work.

#95 9 years ago

I will repeat it again, as more playfields continue to come in now or the end of 2014. USPS only & value at $20 US. You just have to wrap it in cardboard or use a box. www.greatpinball.com has my address info.

Here is pictures of the 4 playfields. There were problems with finish clear coats. Tiny white dots in some areas. So 3 got all finish clear coats, & 1 likely needs to be totally redone.

My coats of varethane looked good over the ink. Still could be my problem, or the finish clear coat guys. Or maybe these suffered from my old air compressor, Still very presentable, & will only improve over the years is my thoughts.

So the best one is Cole Wiehl if you are interested I will take another $50 off. The next 2 were & Blairally, if interested I will take another $100 off. Chad Riley I would do over again, but if you want I could get the finish clear coat done & take $200 off. But this one is very noticeable!

See what you guys think, or if you want me to start over again. I still think the first 3 are good to go. Problems will most likely be hidden in some areas. Once the playfields are heavily played, I would think this will go away over time (white specks).

The next 2 playfields went out for finish clear coats. New compressor & new can of varethane.

How much longer will you be taking these? I'm still in the process of buying one. Should have the deal done by next week. He said someone stripped off paint and cleared it. Will you still be able to redo it? Ed

#98 9 years ago

Yes i'm still taking them in early 2015. Playfields are getting done much quicker, if there is no serious problems. Perseverance testing going on my part. Nothing is 100%!

#99 9 years ago

John, I can't see very much in the picture. Is it possible to show a close up of the white specks?
I guess maybe on mine they are not that bad anyway, but I still want to see the specks up close.

Cole is getting his sent home. Thanks! Chad will be getting his redone, asap. Blair is going to look at more pictures below. Tiny dimple in clear first picture.

The more I thought about these, & had another look tonight. I'm pretty sure nothing was a problem on my end. Guessing something went wrong with the second finish coat of clear.
