Yeah I think both strippers are actually two pieces anyway. Super glue for the win.

Hmm, alright. I’ll bring the glue and patch her up. Thanks everyone!

#553 5 years ago

Oh man, I would totally do this if I still had Sopranos. I had one that was absolutely perfect, but sold it to a friend who did me a huge favor at a substantial discount.

#554 5 years ago

I have this plastics left after a renovation.

Someone need them ? Its all very good repros from russia, little darker and less resolution than original but ... cheaper than NOS and looking better than old plastics.

What you see on the catonage 75 Euro plus shipping.

Yes, I take them. PM.

I'm back in the game!!

For personal reasons ($) I had to sell all my games a few years back. Sopranos was the only one I really regret selling. I always missed this machine.

Just bought one again and I am now a complete and happy person . Needs some work but I will get there.

Stupid question, but which chip is used for the roms on Sopranos? Before I buy them already programmed I just want to see if I have them already and can just burn my own set. (The sticker on the stock ones blocks the chip #)

Edit: Looks like 27C040's, never mind... (Just happen to have a pile)

Added over 5 years ago:

Correction: CPU is a 27C010 Display is a 27C040

Done and now working!

I have lent my Sopranos to a good friend who likes his games to play right. The air balls off the drop target were really annoying him so he installed this...

IMG-20190121-WA0011 (resized).jpgIMG-20190121-WA0011 (resized).jpg

Looks horrendous right, but he says in 30 games he hasn't lost a ball from hitting the target and look at it from the players view...

IMG-20190121-WA0010 (resized).jpgIMG-20190121-WA0010 (resized).jpg

I have to see it in person before it stays (he also says he is going to make it look better) but if it solves the problem! Has anyone else managed to find a way of addressing this?

#560 5 years ago

Adding lights to Da Bing stage is a nice touch.

Interesting. Has anyone experimented with a different spring or pulling the existing spring tighter to prevent airballs?

Nothing with the spring, its the target itself. You can fill the targets backside out with silicone or something like that to prevent airballs.

#563 5 years ago

I would almost go as far as saying thats part of the risk reward if you dare to hit it straight on quickie ftw!

Pull the spring really tight i used the original one works great

Yep - shoot it from the left flipper if you dare!

I typically think to myself "What would Paulie Walnuts do?" And then I shoot it.

Just bought Sopranos, so I guess I'm joining the club!
It's been stored in a dusty warehouse for the past 10 years and needs a big clean up.
I'm going to buy a new plastics set and I've removed the ROMs from the board. They are Italian and version 1.00.

I would like to flash new ones myself but I'm not sure which chips I need. The manual says M27C0400I-I2FI (8MB) for the voice ROMs and 27256 / 27512 (512kb) for the CPU-sound. These are way bigger than the actual bin-files (1MB), and I believe the ones in my machine are smaller. I was able to remove the sticker on the CPU-chip and it says M27C1001-10F1 (128kb). Manual says 27C040 (1MB).

Where do you guys get your new chips from? I do not have a UV-light to reset the ones I have and I'm not really sure if they are OTP and even possible to reset.

Thanks for any feedback.

Nice find

Thats $82 + shipping for the full set. That's why I want to flash the chips myself. Chip price is about $4.50 a piece.

Just use your originals, grab a cheap UV eraser (mine was like $8), takes like 15 min to erase them. I listed the required chips a few posts back for display and cpu, but seems like you may need all to change language? I had spares and burnt them, took a few minutes, once I used the right ones (cost is zero if you can do it yourself)

ROMs, ROMs ... cheap stuff. The horror starts when looking for plastics. I ended up in Russia, fair price but not like original. Poor print, poor colors but NOS were about 300 dollar ...

Thanks. Yes, I need the voice chips as well. I'll get an UV-eraser. Some sites mentiones that these chips are OTP (One-time-programmable). Even though they have this UV window. Do you know if they in fact can be erased and flashed again?

Yeah, found these on Pinballcenter for 159 euros: http://www.pinball.center/en/shop/pinball-parts/playfield-parts/plastics/6758/plastic-set-for-the-sopranos
Not even the full set. The pin I got had even replaced the plastics earlier so I guess the reproduction quality is low.

Yes, can be erased and reused many times over.

#579 5 years ago

you'll need the programmer as well to do it yourself.. I'd be glad to do it for you if you send me the chips (only the ones with windows). Send me a PM if interested.

I know you're in Norway, so I don't know the shipping cost... prob $10-15 each way. Seems someone there with a programmer would be able to hook you up tho.

Thank you. Really appreciate your help. I do have a programmer and will have go at it when I get my hands on a UV-light.

Please forget about pinballcenter´s plastics .... there are many people dissatisfied ! Its not genuine Stern plastics ! I had T2 plastics from them .. very bad quality !
The plastics I bought came from vbobrusev , also active on this thread As I wrote ... not good as NOS but alternate ! Colors not matching and the quality is more "raw" .... not so fine as original but a full set for a nice price !

BTW: Pics from my new translite and speakergrille with speaker decoration "guns" ... from pinballcenter ...

Now we printing on new UV printer colors and quality should be better.

If it has a window, it "should" be erasable but you may need to check the actual part number/data sheet.

If you are looking to do it yourself, these are the chip sizes and checksums:
27C010 CPU ROM U210 A5.0 B5FF (1MB)
27C512 SOUND ROM U7 A4.0 9B5A (512k)
27C040 DISPLAY ROM U5 A5.0 B4BB (4MB)
27C080 SOUND ROM U17 A3.0 F01E (8MB)
27C080 SOUND ROM U21 A1.04 C14C (8MB)
27C080 SOUND ROM U36 A1.04 47A3 (8MB)
27C080 SOUND ROM U37 A1.04 ADCD (8MB)

But anyone get DOUBLE hits on the safe?

This is a feature on one "rank" as I know ....
If you change this in the adjustmens ... you cheat

#586 5 years ago

I had something different happen today.
I was in "Big Points"
I hit the third bing ramp and multi ball started immediately.

Every single time? I adjusted the safe switches on mine and it’s easy to over adjust sensitivity so single safe hits award 2

#588 5 years ago

It’s real intermittent. I need to test it more. I don’t want to tear that apart unless it gets really bad. Was just wondering if anyone had that experience.

Sounds like the switches — no need to tear anything apart- you can reach the switch blades with a switch adjuster

#590 5 years ago

I’ll take a look now that I see where they are. I don’t know much about this mech. I’m guessing the gap needs to be wider so they trigger only one time on a sharp hit.

Yeah two microswitches up near top, behind safe halfs. And yes, if the blades are set in too far it gets too sensitive and can register double hits. Should only register decent hits to the safe, to engage one of the switches.

1 week later
#592 5 years ago
Quoted from Edenecho:

I started having some of the same issues with boat lock. It ended up replacing one microwitch since it was really bent and worn, but now I have an issue with it not always releasing a ball when it should .that is, the post goes down, but the ball does not roll down. Maybe adjust the switch some more, so it does not hinder the ball too much..hmmm

I had to replace the lower switch. And after that I got the same issue. The new switch is tighter. So quit often the ball doesn't roll down.
And when I adjusted the switch to make it roll easier. Then the switch don't trigger.

Did you find a solution?

Yeah i had to buy the correct type of microswitches, which look the same but is lighter and dont require as much force to push down.

In 10 minutes will be playing and streaming in Sopranos pinball https://www.twitch.tv/pinballrussia Will be glad if you guys will be with us.

Just picked up Sopranos yesterday. Replaced all lights with LED's. Then found some that I missed, replaced them. Played a few games and noticed I missed somemore. Job complete now. Need a switch for the safe, all the plastic was intact. Played a 4 player game with others and it had team SCORE. I contacted Stern about this (team play) on my Aerosmith. Was told it's not implement, why not Stern. How do you find out what version is on this machine. Thanks

Quoted from Meloyelo51:

Thanks for the referral. I've have had several people ask so I added a listing. PM is fine too. The 8MB sound chips are a little more, but shipping covers everything ordered at the same time. I found this thread as alimerick was asking about the swearing and looking for his answer but apparently he already asked. Normally most games hover around sound 1.0...but it does look like older roms can affect the swearing and went through changes (in addition to the settings being correct or even available)

BUMP
Purchased Sopranos on Monday and found that it had ver 2.04 on Thursday.
Ordered CPU 5.0 and Display 5.0 and had a tracking # within an hour. Thanks to Matt

While Cliffy doesn’t make protectors specifically for Sopranos (he told me he hasn’t had access to a playfield), I discovered the protector he makes for the GB Scoleri Bros. drop targets fits the Stugots target perfectly.
I have an extra one if anyone wants it.

Can you post picture of it installed. Thanks
