Love the idea of a boss stage. Makes me think of fun ways to incorporate the usual projectiles that they throw. Maybe something like a multiball with constant ball save and flipper holds turned off. Then for each ball drain, Sonic would take damage. It would feel as if the balls are Robotniks projectiles that you have to hit back at him while reducing draining. If he beats you first, similar to a platform game, you have to get back to him again.
