awesome thank you!
Join myself and Scott Danesi today at 1:47pm Eastern as pinball joins it's first charity speedrunning event! "Fast Pace for Head Space" benefiting Take This! I will be speedrunning 9 reactors on Total Nuclear Annihilation, and if we raise enough money we may even make some breakfast!

Maybe we can improve default audits for MPF together. This is an area which could use some love.

Sure that would be great the defaults are pretty good on their own, but I also meant to add more that I forgot.
All set for Pintastic! Sonic and I will be there the entire duration of the show Thursday-Sunday, and I will be joining the Homebrew Developer Seminar at 3:30 on Friday. See you there!

Any chance you could be convinced to bring this out to PinBrew in Youngstown (Girard) Ohio this April 2022?
Finally got to play this game and it plays as good as the videos look or better! This game was a ton of fun. Would love to see someone manufacture this title. Maybe just because I grew up playing Sega Genesis there is the nostalgia factor. Very well made. The display looks great. Rules were solid. I was able to have pretty long ball times and got multiball numerous times. Maybe a little too easy would be my only criticism? I’m not that good at pinball. Or maybe it was set up a little easy so people have a chance to see a bunch of the game? Either way I loved it. Thank you for bringing it. Great work!

I really hope that I'll be able to see this game in person at TPF next year! Maybe by then there will be an agreement to produce it commercially...
Thank you so much for bringing Sonic to Pintastic! It is gorgeous in person and so much fun to play! My first game was rough but once I dialed in to the shots a bit better, I had a blast playing it. I’m very impressed at what you’ve accomplished with it.

Is there a replay of this somewhere? Many of us did not make it Friday.

They should upload it to YouTube soon!
I apologise for lack of updates. I'm still rather exhausted after Pintastic and Thanksgiving. My phone camera has died and I'm still waiting on my new phone (and might be for a few weeks still unfortunately)
I want to thank everyone who came out to the shows, especially those who took the time to talk to me and share their support, ideas, and stories. I enjoyed meeting you all and really hope you enjoyed the game.
As for what's next for SSB, It is currently set up at the Southern New Hampshire Pinball Club for play by members and guests. There is an open house on the 12th that I will be attending in case you are local. In addition, I'm talking with some local venues and you may see SSB show up for a weekend event at BitBar in Salem and another showing at Double Bull in Peabody soon.
I got a lot of good data from the shows (Pintastic audits will be compiled soon, had some issues) There are a few minor things I want to address in the short term.
Sonic will be getting new modern computer hardware to improve reliability. I'm switching to a Ryzen APU to eliminate all PCI plug-in cards from the computer as they were the weak link in remaining robust after transit. Loading times should improve a bit as well with the game loading directly off the modern m.2 SSD slot directly on the motherboard. This will be completed before the open house and should make traveling with sonic as easy as any other game.
Right now the game is in a good place. I have no immediate plans for major changes. Ill be doing some code updates and getting the game into as many hands as possible for a while. Work will continue on adjustments and art, but no immediate plans for v3 or anything like that.
So what WILL I be working on then? I will be starting my entry for the 2022 American Dream competition. This will be a whole new never-before-seen game that I hope to have flipping and playable before Expo in 2022. The design is complete so it will likely be straight to the CNC for this one. Some things will be outsourced this time around to save time (New cabinet, all new mechs instead of salvaging, etc) I believe with the experience I have gained having done this before I will be able to have something I'm proud to show off within a year. I'll be listing my Rick and Morty for sale to fund this venture as it will be more expensive than doing it all myself.
Unfortunately with the rules/guidelines of the contest still somewhat vague, I'll be keeping my design and work under a sheet for a while. As much as I love having everyone be a part of the development process, I need to make sure that my entry remains valid and that my ideas remain original. I made Sonic as a passion project and later resume. This second game will have a different purpose so I feel I need to treat it differently.
I owe some of you some shirts as well, those will go out ASAP.

You do what you can when the time is available. I have been checking in. Kinda figured after a few shows you had a fill for a while and its that time of year were other things take higher priority. Take a break before jumping back in the hole. It will make it easier when you do.
That is awesome to hear that you are going to be doing an entry for expo!! Good luck, can’t wait to see what you have come up with!
New computer installed. Way more stable. No more PCI cards. Pictures when I get my new phone (and therefore camera)
In addition, I swapped out the metal wall in the pop area with some posts and rubbers. Fixed the issue with the ball repeatedly going up through the rollover so often, and adds some more action up there. Pop seems more exciting now, more mystery lights, more erratic exits/feeds from that area. Still goes up through, but not as often. Definitely an improvement
I played this machine at Pintastic. A true work of art with an outstanding flow. Thanks for sharing it!

Splendid! I got stalled up there a few times with that issue.
Fixed some spelling/naming errors, and added a new show for slippery flippers. Flipper GI now fades out to off leading up to the flippers dropping out and blink when they drop. Also added a sound effect to the drop to reenforce to the player that the behavior is intentional and not a malfunction. Hope to have a camera soon to document some of the changes. See anyone tomorrow at SNHPC?

Do you have the footage from the conference speech?

Drat I was going to link to your the twitch feed, since the Pinball Expo 2021 videos were still up for a while, but they don't appear to be there anymore
I shouldn't have, as I either broke or severely bent the "Classic only" rule. But... The music is too good. Sonic Generations has been added to game select.
The backgrounds on this one were tough. I managed to snag usable photos by running the game in ultrawide/surround resolution (7680 x 1440) and finding good in-game locations for screenshots. the ultrawide allowed me to get big enough areas while not having to edit out HUDs or Sonic. The City Escape 2 BG was the toughest as I had to time it perfectly to both have a flat ground and not get run over by the truck.
Other random thing - I redid almost all the music in the game to MONO instead of stereo. This cut the music files being loaded at the beginning of the game from ~4.1GB to ~2.6GB. Huge loading time improvement. Stereo still present on the tracks that can benefit from it. Not sure why I never thought of this.

Lets balance the scales again after Generations: Sonic the Hedgehog (Game Gear)
Truth be told these game media packs are fun to make and only take a few hours. Usually I do them because the music is stuck in my head that day and I want something to work on.

Nice. Game Gear is where I did most of my Sonic playing back in the day... wonder what I ever did with the game gear.

Me too! Loved that damn game gear.
Thinking of eventually adding Sonic 2 (GG) as I'm pretty sure it was even more popular than the first one. No nostalgia left behind!

Add Sonic Advance! I LOVED the chiptune music from Advance 3 so much I ripped it onto my iPod. Zone 5 slaps!!!
Back from the dead with a stream!

Showcased the 3 new media packs, and the new 7th mode! The white Chaos Emerald is finally obtainable! I was mostly testing it, but it worked really well with only one real bug found and zero crashes.
Nothing left now but the Wizard modes. Maybe in time for Pintastic/Expo? I'm still focusing my efforts on other projects but sometimes I feel inspired.

With the relative success of the Sonic movies I'm curious if this IP picks up some traction for a full table again. Any chance you've floated this concept to Stern/American Pinball or Sega?

Sega some what open to fan stuff.
still want the game to keep the 90's feel of Sonic.
Don't need voices in this game.
Also this game does not need the pro / premium split unless something big can be added for an premium

Yes, I agree wholeheartedly! If any manufacturers are listening, leave it video game based!!!
Quoted from McSquid:Sooooo do Wizard mode spoilers go in the build thread or nah?
