I don’t think they can to a one off fan project. It’s not like a video game that is easily replicated and distributed.

Next is art scanning, CAD work, then new playfield/rebuild

It was grabbed from the Titan rubbers I currently have on the game :p
Hi, am hyperfocused artist. Really glad to have been a part of the art of this project so far! I'll poke at the other refreshed decals over time, but wanted to make sure I got the centerpiece done before work really started on V2 of the playfield. Really happy with how this has come out, and I'm really ecstatic with everyone who has enjoyed the art from the previous iteration and bought the shirts Ryan put out a few months ago too! This project is absolutely incredible! <3
Looks good But i like the yellow flipper rubber. I thought the playfeild was pretty enough. Not every surface doesn't need to be color bombed. The clear wood makes the colors pop that are there.
You can put the current playfield on mine we you start making the game for the rest of us.

I wasn't a fan of the yellow rubber. The game will never have yellow rubber either.
The entire playfield will eventually have color and full art. It's not staying a Whitewood forever.

I dunno, on one hand I thought yellow was pretty okay if it were just a generic splash art to promote the machine rather than be on the machine itself, but I do agree that it's better to have flipper rubbers in the art that would closer match the actual rubber used for the game for consistency's sake. Yellow worked well against the red banner, just maybe not a yellow quite that bright. I like the final color best though.
Semi-OT: we’re right in the middle of the Sonic Block at this year’s Games Done Quick. Currently Sonic Colors for DS. If anyone is interested in seeing Sonic go fast…er than normal

Our artist AmberCyprian was one of the runners for 3D blast! Make sure you watch the vod if you missed it! The run was great!
I love it when a plan comes together. V1 playfield has finished being scanned by the art digitizing company. The result is an excellent overlay that lines up very well with the CAD. This is definitely accurate enough to trace changes and hole positions as I had hoped. Next up is some CAD work, then off to the CNC
IMG_2497 (resized).jpegIMG_2498 (resized).jpegpasted_image (resized).pngInteresting. I had not seen a playfield digitized in that way. Do you see artificially smaller measurements at the edges or do they run an algorithm to correct for perspective distortion?

I'm not actually sure how it is done. I know he said he did it in 4 shots, so most likely they have a process that minimizes that effect on smaller pieces, but used 4 stitched together for this? There is still a little perspective distortion but this is accurate enough for my purposes
no Cruse scanner in your area? I was quoted $125 for a 300 dpi playfield scan on a Cruse scanner. mind sharing what that process cost?

$250 for both sides. I was not familiar with the technology and didnt search specifically for a cruise scanner. I searched for large scale scanning and this place was the only one who didnt bail when i told them it was wood not paper
Buttload of CAD work. Second playfield will likely be cut next weekend. Then its a sprint to the finish line after some patient clearcoat curing.
Inserts have been overhauled. We are now doing christmas trees instead of big chains of huge arrows:
pasted_image (resized).png
I moved the inserts down farther away from the scoop (instead of most others moving closer if anything) because I want the option to cover the scoop area and to make it so plunged balls travel on the space in between the inserts. The mystery insert saw significant wear from constant high speed balls, and ive seen similar on other games.
Also, Spin dash now has 6 inserts. 3 for each shot coming off the upper flipper. This will mean spindash light shows that will call more attention to it. I considered this design for v1 but I was trying to make the CNC cutting similar and using all the same arrow because my CNC contact took a long time to do anything. Now I have a more reliable solution and can go nuts with different insert shapes. Smaller inserts = more inserts.
pasted_image (resized).png
Lastly we have the massive speed bar right in between the flippers. Cant miss it! Zone progress inserts have shrunk to make room. They never needed to be that big anyways.

CAD is done (until I find 8907123412 last minute problems and panic) It certainly looks like a playfield. I have forseen some problems and adjusted accordingly but I think it will all work out.
Worked on new insert decals. Everything now uses the SONIC target's font. The sonic 1 title card font was impossible to read. Nice and bold on everything now. I also overhauled the ring decal with a thicker ring and no background so hopefully the light that shines through will look like a ring. It will go on a white backed decal so it may actually block enough light to have the desired effect. You should actually be able to tell that those are rings now. The last bit was the speed gauge. I had no idea how to label it and have it not look terrible. Then I had the negative space idea and now its my favorite. CNC cutting should be next weekend. Then inserts, sanding, and clearcoat weather permitting.

Looks amazing!
Seeing as how you’re about to cut one playfield….
If someone were to really, really, really want one of these, what should one expect to pay based on your BOM and your time/programming/engineering/hard work?
Asking for a friend

No units will be sold without proper licensing from SEGA.

I haven't read the whole thread, are you intending to get licensing? That would be freaking awesome!

I am open it it being manufactured by one of the established pinball companies. I won't be attempting to produce or license it on my own. Too many good games have died that way.

ha, just realized in the Drawing the flag/banner behind the spinball logo is the Austrian Flag. Thank you for that.
Awesome tutorial! I’ve watched you play on twitch so many times and now I fully understand what’s happening haha.
The ruleset on this game is phenomenal, well done!
Quick question: On the 3 mini-wizard modes, do you have an option to choose which one you want to do, or are they assigned to a different chaos emerald (twice)?

You get to choose. Can't pick the same one twice until you play all three though.
